podunkboy
I'm playing a lower-level save in Scotland with Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic, and have them up to League 2 right below the SPL. When I started the save I "picked up" a "me-gen" DM (a database player created along the guidelines from most of the sign-up threads") that was 15 and assigned him to my first team. His first game, he scored a goal right after halftime, and was a integral part of two promotions, even making co-captain by 17. Obviously, he attracted interest as the team moved up the leagues, but I just set his asking price high, kept guaranteeing him promotions, upped his contract a couple times to lock him down. SPL teams came sniffing around, I kept giving them the old "hands-off", but I knew that this season, if we didn't achieve promotion, it would be unfair to deny him his developmental opportunities. So, January rolls around, Bonnyrigg's sitting in a firm 3rd place with a very likely promotion in the cards...and it shows up in the news feed "Dundee FC has offered $750,000 for Eric Seeger - management has accepted the offer". I always thought I'd have him for at least the rest of the season, I had set the asking price at a completely silly for our level $750,000...and they matched it. I'm happy for him, but despite a 3-game win streak since he's left, there's still a hole in the back of my tactics, and a bigger hole in my heart. I've lost the world-class-football-playing-son-I-never-had. Dang this game all to heck for making me care about those little digital dudes in short pants running around on a virtual field. (and yes, if we get that promotion to the SPL...I'm going to try to get him back.)
MShing
You should have set his price to £0 so teams would bid low offers which you could reject. By setting his price high your always in danger of your board accepting it behind your back if there's a lot of interest in him. I always ignore those transfer rumour news items about my players if I want to keep them. By not answering I don't risk upsetting my player.
pauladams84
I wouldn't even set price. Just have reject all offers selected. Setting to 0 would invite far too many bids. Although having reject all bids would make it so you don't have to reply anyway. I bet the annoying thought is that if they came straight in for 750k, you probably could have got more. Especially if the player didn't say you were overpricing him
podunkboy
I guess on the bright side, team finances should look pretty good for the rest of the season. His "declared value" on his profile was only $140K, and the previous offers that had came in before I set it way up at $750K had been on the order of "$20,000 and another $45,000 over 24 months", so I thought maybe I'd have him for the end of the season. At least I know I'm still one of his favorites.
