Newcomer to the FM franchise.

Started a season with AFC Wimbledon. After a poor start I’ve moved up into mid-table.

I have lots of learning to do. I'd like to ask for some general advice on the following.

Defence

What tips and tactics advice can anybody give me for keeping clean sheets? – I concede goals quite regularly from all manner of situations in equal measure: poaching, strikers running through my defence and almost impossible long shots too (spectacular to see but most frustrating). My CDs do though seem to win the lion’s share of headers which combats aerial threats quite effectively.

I play with four across the back, my most defensive formation is set to a deep defensive line, rigid, and defensive with full backs on defend /zonal marking, one CD on defend/ man marking and the other CD on limited defender/man marking. I also play with a DM in front of the back four in the hope of disrupting through balls and attempts to run at my defence.

Fitness

What are the best actions to take and tactic settings for improving and maintaining fitness levels?

My players’ condition drops quite quickly during the match in comparison to my opponents. From starting at mostly around 95%+ with equally high match fitness, but dropping to low 70% figures before the hour mark. Most of my tactics are based around short passing and defensive settings.

A Dithering Player

I’m not sure how well the 3D engine represents actual player performance but my wide left midfielder seems to dither a lot – far more than anybody else; which suggests this is more about the individual player ability rather than the team tactic. For the level I’m playing at he has good passing, decent pace and average crossing ability. I have him set to a support role and to cut inside, he is not to hold up. He is slow to do much when in space and turns his back to defenders and struggles to lay off the ball when he’s closed down. I notice he has a poor decision making score – could this be the issue?
