Is this realistic?

Recommended Posts

I am managing a Swedish team who originated in the Second Division but is now in the First Division Elite (two promotions). I seem to have a hard time finding new good players, however. Players in the same league don't want to come to my team, players in nearby nations, but at lower leagues don't want to come to my team, so I figured the best way to get new players would be to try and scour the teams from the first division (one division less), or especially teams about to be relegated. Yet when I try to get those players, they too never want to join my team. I don't follow football much in real life as I am an American and I don't care for MLS. Thus I don't know how it really works. But in real life, would players in a lesser division generally be eager to at least look into offers from teams in the division ahead of them? Especially if the distance from their home team isn't terribly far away? Just seems odd that no one good wants to play for my team.

A move to a higher division club is generally a primary aim of any footballer however there are many other aspects that come into consideration that could rule out your team as an option, these include your reputation, your club's reputation, the amount of money you can offer the player, the chances of you keeping or improving your league position & the player's own ambition.

Add these all in & it can be difficult for a club you get successive promotions to attract platers who are currently at a club, your best bet is to seek out free agents or tap up fringe players who could be tempted if they think that they'll get a chance of more first team football at your club.

Yeah i suspect FM hasn't given your team the reputation boost it deserves and you're probably viewed as a less appealing option than some teams two levels below.

There's lots of examples similar with players, managers, etc and i do think SI needs to revisit how reps change.

The team's reputation is on similar levels as some of the teams I am trying to sneak players from.

What I wish is that all players would at least listen to offers even if they have almost no interest. At least those who say along the lines of "make me an offer I can't refuse" are open minded even if I generally cannot afford what they want. I wish I could convince the board to allow me to offer players as much as I want so long as I don't go over budget. I dislike the salary caps per player when I have tons of cap room left. But, that is probably realistic so I don't want it removed if so.

Do you suppose facility levels have some influence on players wanting to join my club? I have a nice field, but my training facilities, though upgraded a time or two, are not very good.
