Touchline Shouts and Tactical Familiarity

Recommended Posts

I am a big proponent of touchline instructions and use them every single game—without fail—based upon (a) my opponent's formation, and (b) my subjective interpretation of the match. For the first 20 minutes or so I watch the game on full until I'm confident my system is implemented to best exploit the opposition. Only then will I observe the game through highlights.

Another big proponent of touchline instructions is Cleon (I've read his detailed posts), one of the more respected tacticians on these forums and, someone who has had real success utilising a shout-based philosophy. They work; shouts clearly work. However, I'm confused as to how they specifically relate to tactical familiarity in-game when they are in direct opposition to one's tactical methodology. A hypothetical or two:

Pre-Match Approach #1

Tempo: Quick; Familiarity: Fluid

Passing: Quick; Familiarity: Fluid

Touchline Instructions and Effects #1

Retain Possession: Shortens passing style and slows tempo—renders familiarity in Tempo and Passing Awkward

Pre-Match Approach #2

Closing Down: Press More; Familiarity: Fluid

Marking: Man Mark; Familiarity: Fluid

Tempo: Quick; Familiarity: Fluid

Touchline Instructions and Effects #2

Stand Off Opponents: Decreases tempo, instructs all players to loosely zonal mark, and instructs players to close down rarely—renders familiarity in Closing Down, Marking, and Tempo Awkward

It appears logical to me that one would prepare for these eventualities through Match Training and the three available tactical slots. This is fine, but is it at all necessary? After all there are limited slots. For that question to be answered, one requires insight into the extent the user is penalised by the engine for diverging from his or her general, familiar methodology.

Thoughts?

Shouts and tactic familarity aren't really linked. So you don't get penalised in game when using them.

That's all I need to know, thank you. Feel free to get rid of this thread if at all possible unless you think it could still be valuable to someone else.
