Kuchiki
I'm currently feeling very frustrated with my FM save where I'm not doing altogether too badly I'm still seeing alot of inconsistent results and I can't quite put the finger on where I'm going wrong. I've spent a lot of time pouring over appropriate threads and even though I know there is great advice there, I still seem to struggle to implement the correct decisions from what I can gather. I'd like to know if there are any video tutorials from successful gamers playing FM13 that are quite in depth. Hopefully this way I may be able to improve myself as a gamer as the countless hours spent in these forums are helping very little.

Kuchiki
Thanks for the reply, getting a sense of de ja vu as I think I've already seen some of those videos but I'll be sure to check out his youtube channel. I think what I'm looking for most is how I should be analyzing what goes on during the match and how to make changes to my team and tactics which will be of benefit. I'll try and post my tactics up for you guys to look at after I've browsed through his channel.

Kuchiki
Aye I was browsing through it last night, which motivated me to play another game in which I lost, frustratingly.

Kuchiki
I decided to go with these shouts if I remember correctly: Play Narrower, Exploit the flanks, get the ball forward, possibly pass into space or run at the defence can't quite remember. After around the 10 minute mark I was 1-0 up and I think I used stand off opposition as I was worried about being pulled out of position defensively. Guest
How did they score the goals? What are your team instructions? I am not sure I would like a stopper cover partnership in a team with a striker and two attacking central midfielders. I think it is just asking for the defense to be picked apart. What works for me against this sort of Christmas tree formation is to sometimes play a high defensive line and negate the creativity of those central midfielders by giving them little space to work in. with just one defensive central midfielder you have conceded the central midfield to them and looking at their stats they have just tic tac toed past your anchor man and central defenders which is where they then got 5 clear cut chances. Really need to see the team instructions and how they scored.
Kuchiki
These are my default instructions: Uploaded with ImageShack.us The shouts I used may have altered these somewhat.
Kuchiki
I believe I also unticked the playmaker checkbox for this game so as to focus entirely on the wings. I'll try and get the highlights onto youtube for you to look at.
Kuchiki
Here's a video of the goals, sorry it's poor quality I'm not sure how to get it to upload at hd quality. Never mind it appears it has uploaded in hd quality
Guest
I was worried you would say attacking and more pressing. Personally I think the attacking and drop deep shout played right into their hands. Can you imagine what was an already large gap in central midfield being made even larger by your defensive line dropping deeper? Also the press more with an attacking system and a deeper defensive line would see an already over stretched defensive core pulled all over the pitch leaving large holes which they exploited and exploited well. You have understood where Pescara's weaknesses and your strengths lay, but failed to understand where their strengths and your weaknesses lay. A few Serie A teams like that Christmas tree formation and I do not think I would use your formation unless I was Juventus and was playing a crappy team and I was happy in the knowledge my team was far superior to the opposition. Cleon loves his/her 3 central defenders formations and I think in Italy you should maybe try something like that, or like I do a 4231 deep formation to give you solidity in the middle but the ability to still exploit their weakness on the flanks. I have a very good defensive core in my AC Milan team so frequently when I use my more adventurous Assymetric formation and we take the lead against the Christmas tree formation I can push really high up and clog up the space for the oppo to exploit safe in the knowledge that a ball over the top will result in an offside or the pace, anticipation and concentration of my defenders will see them get back to deal with any problems. I will take a look at the rest of the roles later on, but personally. - Re-think the stopper cover/set up especially with an anchor man there already, and especially against a formation like theirs. - Re-think the attacking press more options against formations like theirs as they are drawing your defenders all over the place and leaving gaps. I actually had real problems with my CD's being pulled out of position too easily. I read some advice that mentioned setting the fullbacks to tight-marking and the cd's to NOT mark tightly and it has helped massively. I do have a formation with higher-pressing and sometimes I still notice my Anchor man and central defenders being pulled out of position(Especially by dlf's) so I will then set their closing down manually to prevent teams exploiting this. -Re-think the formation, especially against teams that heavily favour packing the central midfield. They will just tear your 3 man central core apart.
Kuchiki
I'd just like to point out that after 10 minutes I was 1-0 up and then I used the shout stand off the opposition as I was concerned too about my defence being pulled apart, I also never decided to drop deeper. I agree with you though about the stopper and cover combination and I did consider changing this at the start of the game, I chose not to as I thought their striker would be playing as a deep lying forward and my central defender might get pulled towards him. I do have less attacking formations to choose from but Pescara are in 17th position in my league on a poor run of form and I am playing at home so I think I were favourites for the match. Oops sorry............my mistake. They dominated the central midfield though, your central defensive core was over-run and it shows in the goals you conceded. The 3rd saw your central defender get drawn out to close the player with ball(He should have picked up the striker) and said striker used the seam to take the pass and it was 3-1 just like that. Attacking is not the problem, you were ok to attack( I prefer to control) the weaker team, I just think the formation however conceded the central midfield to them and they exploited it better, the fact the had slightly more possession whils you were at home and the better team indicates that. Do you find your CD's chasing the ball often? I am not sure what happens to defenders when you are attacking and then click the stand off shout, sneaky suspicion it still has them chasing the ball though. Maybe try the advice I took about putting the CD's to not mark tightly as it has certainly helped me. Your goal must have been satisfying though as you hit them exactly where you wanted to. Kuchiki
I'll certainly give your advice a go, it was indeed satisfying to see the first goal go in but as soon as it happened I decided to change Hernandez (goalscorer) from an advanced forward to a deep lying forward so I could put the target man on an attack duty. Guest
One other thing, a formation like theirs requires width from their fb's if they have good attacking fb's you need to make a plan for that. Their first goal was initiated by their fb if I am seeing that right. You need to get your wingers to help in that situation.
