Just a thought on the ME guys

Recommended Posts

I have been playing FM since pretty much the split from Eidos and have found the games to be fantastic however this years version in particular I feel is rather wooden with regards to the match engine. I find the tactics you set are constrained within the boundaries of a pre determined match engine and you can never fully get your team to play in an original way, I feel that you should be given many more options for your team in terms of how they build up play and how they keep the ball and then see how it works in the match engine rather than having minimal options which are tailored to the match engine. The tactics should be put into the match engine as a random variable rather than something pre-determined if that makes any sort of sense?

I think I may have worded it ridiculously but like say for example you want a team to play like Ajax/Barcelona you always feel there are limits to the match engine as to how close you can get to that particular style of play whereas I was hoping for almost a free form tactic creator and then see how the match engine adapts to it rather than how your tactic has to adapt to the match engine

I think I know what you are getting at.

But the issue isn't just the TC, but also the current limitations of the match engine. Although you can still get pretty close to both your examples.

Of course there are limits to the ME though, the moment it fully matches real life is the moment SI have found the holy grail.

However what I will say is there is far more to this engine than any previous one.

I think it is a complaint that the ME shouldn't be restricted to the logic of its own tactics, but also take into account the internal logic of any and every user tactic, even if/when that logic contradicts with the logic of tactic making that informs the AI. Basically, the OP is requesting that the ME should be built to handle the billions of possible tactics created through free-form slider interaction rather than the couple of million variations the TC provides. There are some rather obvious logistical problems and design challenges involved with this.
