Chris2k6
I don't usually post on the forum but i'm in a massive dilemma! Agghhhh Right so here it is.... I've been with Newcastle (whom i support) from the start of the game for 3 seasons. Finished 5th first season and then 2nd the following to seasons, losing out by a single point to Chelsea in my 2nd season. I also won the Europa league and Super Cup, while coming runner up in FA Cup. Not bad for me. But then Arsenal come along with an impressive offer. I was tempted as i dominated in FM12 with Arsenal after starting off with Telford. But I was strong enough to turn them down. However a few days later and Man Utd offer me the job! I'm not a Man Utd fan. much prefer Arsenal and Chelsea. But then i see they have a transfer budget of £96m compared to the £23m i have at Newcastle. I then see they have Gareth Bale!!! What do I do, leave my impressive Newcastle squad and join rivals Man Utd? Or continue with the toon?? Here's my starting line up for the town... GK - Krul RB - Debuchy CB - S. Taylor CB - Yanga-Mbiwa LB - Baines DMC - Anita MC - Cabaye MC - Sissoko AMR - Ben Arfa AML - Griezmann ST - Cisse Other signings - Mulumbu, A. Henley, Asamoah, A. Carroll I look forward to hearing peoples thoughts :-D
podunkboy
That would be like a baseball manager saying "well, I have a great squad here in Baltimore, but the New York Yankees want me...what do I do?" Of course, some people can't handle the pressure of being manager of the Yankees, so they stay in Baltimore and just wonder "what if?" the rest of their lives. As for me, I'd stay in Newcastle and have a go at taking Man U the old-fashioned way - through grit and determination. It can certainly be done, or everyone would play Man U in every save. Yea, that's where the difference is between reality and FM. In reality no-one turns down the Man Utd job. It's like David Moyes said, he was never offered the job. He simply was told he's the next Man Utd manager and that was that. However FM is a fantasy game. If you want to play it as realistically as you can then you accept the job. However if you think you can stick one up on the nasty evil Man Utd you stay at Newcastle and win everything with them in a few years. Or wait for the Arsenal or Chelsea jobs and skip the few years part.
Koki
Save your game "BeforeArsenal", take the job offer and see how it goes. If you don't like it, you can always go back. That's what usually do. And I don't think I've ever gone back to the old save

Probably good that FM doesn't function like reality - "You have been announced as the new manager of Man Utd, after an agreement was secretly hammered out between your former employers and the Man Utd ownership, without any input from you. Your desk has been packed up, your mail has been forwarded, and the private jet is waiting for you at the nearest air strip. See ya'!"
Legion22
Stick with Newcastle and make them better than Man Utd.
Chris2k6
I gave in. I took a look at the Man Utd squad and couldn't turn it down. They have the likes of Isco, Bale, Dede, Wilshire and Sandro while also keeping stars such as RVP, Rooney and Cleverley. So i got straight to work and signed marc-andre ter stegen, Varane and Neymar. Sold kagawa and now trying to get Newcastle to sell me Cabaye. Going to look at the youth system and try get some players in the first team if i don't get Cabaye and sell some of the dead wood I think the worst thing moving to Man Utd has to be watching Carlo Ancelotti destroying what i created at Newcastle haha. He's selling half the team, signing players who aren't good enough to be first team and bringing in a load of new staff. He sold Sissoko to Bayern for only £13m! Bargain! As well as selling Mulumbu to Tottenham for only £3m! That's a £10m loss for a player who reguarly played the last 3 seasons. Crazy. I have to keep telling myself i'm not in charge anymore, need to move on haha Loving this game at the minute

Chris2k6
Maybe you can profit from this and sign some of your favourite players on the cheap as well. Will help to get over leaving the club if you take some of the players with you I tried but there were only a couple of players who were good enough to compete in the Man Utd team. They were Cabaye and Yanga-Mbiwa. They wanted £40m for Cabaye (far too much) and wouldn't sell Yanga-Mbiwa. So I left it at that. Signed two cracking youngsters instead (had to pay a lot for them, about £26m for a 16 and 18 year old) Risky but i'm confident they'll come good. So now my Man Utd squad looks like this (thought i'd stick with 4-5-1 which served me well at the toon) GK - De Gea/Ter Stegen RB - Rafael CB - Dede CB - Varane LB - Alaba DMC - Sandro MC - Willshire MC - Thiago/Isco AMR - Bale AML - Neymar ST - RVP/Rooney Then subs are usually cleverley, evans, vidic, young, adu (new game generated younster) and whoever isn't chosen from above. With younsters making up for any injured players Pre season went well but first game of the season i got beat 3-2 away to west ham. 2 wins followed and my next game is against chelsea, my first big test. I'm now thinking i chose the choice and hopefully I can get the title this season. So many good teams in the league though!

On FM12 I assembled one of the best Swedish teams ever, raised the Co-efficient of the league so we got 1 automatic group spot and 1 qualifying, but never progressed out of the groups (unluckily so). To be fair it had been too easy to keep all my players if I wanted to, but the second I left the board starting accepting really bad offers for all of the club heroes! Accepting 5mil when I had turned down 15 just days before. It was so sad, I just knew how depressed the fans would have been. And we worked hard for those fans! I've been Newcastle and Athletic boss on my current save, and am at Dortmund right now. I made both of them world class dominant teams before leaving, with enough top class players to send out 2 teams in Newcastle's case, and a very good squad in Athletic's case. Both of them sold off a lot of their teams straight after I left. Neither team needed the money. A lot of the players they sold were the next generation ready to come through. While their first teams are good enough to keep winning, they're going to struggle in a few years. Newcastle are still winning league titles, but most of the team I assembled are 30-33 now, with the youth that remains there not actually good enough to replace them like for like. In 3 years time they'll decline. When if they'd rotated properly they could have still kept the team happy, and had the next generation. Oh well. SRL88
I would personally stay. I would find much more enjoyment out of winning things with Newcastle.
Chris2k6
There's some great feedback on this. Seems that people are pretty much split on this I'm about 10 games into the season now, 2nd in the league. Really enjoying being Man Utd manager. But guess who are top, yep you guessed it, Carlo Ancelotti's Newcastle Utd! WTF! haha this made me realise what would kill me inside. IF Newcastle won the league this season! Aggghhhhh! haha I'm doing my best to prevent the team i support from winning the title! This is messed up!
