Mascherano was better than both of them in my opinion but at the price Zokora went to Spurs for and what I've seen of Lucho Gonzalez I would have accepted both.

Nah he retired through injury.

Another Brit stag party claimed Ferdinand

was a "top fella" who told them 'I don't care

if any Mancs are listening... I'd go back to West

Ham at the drop of a hat - I ****ing loved

the place.' There are 21 days until the start

Cheers for the support everyone :*)

So that's a back four of Evra-Wes-O'Shea (icon_cool.gif)-Bardsley, a midfield of Park-Giggs-Fletcher-Richardson and a front line of Ole-Rossi???

Wow... Although there's still more friendlies I suppose, so who knows, could be further depleted by next week.

seen the goals on SSN now. wtf was Gaby doing? if Paddy had any hair he'd surely be tearing it out at continually being dropped for games like yesterday where Gaby is percieved to be the better defensive option, despite Gaby clearly not being at his best and making mistakes.

not gonna get on ronaldo's back about the pen - admittedly i've seen it from just the one angle, but it looks a penalty AND a dive to me, if that makes any sense. while there was minimal/no contact, the keeper impedes him without getting the ball for me. you can see ronnie initially tries to evade this but in doing so the goalscoring chance is gone and he goes down. i don't like it, but referees are so clownshoes these days you can't rely on them to recognise fouls like that, so i'd argue he's being professional there, however much i dislike diving.

the one later on was rubbish and very pires-esque though, not defending that.

fletch's header so nonchalant icon_cool.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Sorry Nick, couldn't disagree more. He doesn't try to evade it, quite the opposite. He sees the keeper coming and leaves his leg trailing in the hope of contact. That's the only reason he is off balance, because his first instinct was to go for the penalty instead of the goal.

I see the point you're making about when players try to stay on their feet and don't get decisions (although even then that's a grey area at best), but that simply wasn't the case in this instance.

I don't know if anyone is watching a stream of this, because i'm interested to know if Solskjaer is quite as anonymous as he's sounded on the radio. I was going to have words with Nick about that B- anyway.

As for the team, he's had to make some changes, both generally and with 4 games in 10 days. I'm guessing that both Giggs and Ronaldo missing this one means Giggs plays up the middle when Scholes is suspended against Reading. Given him and Vidic missing that one, and that once you accept that we have to rest players at some point, Wigan and Reading at home are the sort of games where we should be resting players. You could argue whether it should be maybe one change less, but overall if we don't get the points today, i'd be saying it's down to the squad being too weak for the challenges it faces rather than Fergie particularly putting out the wrong side today.

Thank god we won but what the **** was Fergie playing at? We were cruising and he takes Saha off and they just bomb forward and run us close. Then he takes off Ole for Ronnie.

If anyone thought Fulham was a one off from Wes then he proved them wrong. I'm sorry Wes but we have good defenders coming through so just find yourself another club ta.

If there has ever been a worse player play for the club than Richardson then i havent seen him. How did he get the 90 and why in the hell are we going to see him in a red shirt again?

Fletcher with a blast from the past with that god awful performance, lucky for him Richardson was playing.

Sheasy i thought very good first half but missing for the second and Park just poor. Some lad said it was the worst midfield put out under Fergie and he might well be right.

Saha i thought great and we looked lost up top without him.

That performance just awful, awful, awful and i want Fergie to explain himself. Why say you are going to play Smith and then not when you have perfect settings to do so?

And Saha to start over Larsson from now on thanks.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Scholes shouldn't have been sent off, here is the reason why:

If yo uwatch as the ball is cleared Carragher is tripped by Giggs (I think) but the ref plays advantage as Alonso gets the ball. He tussles with Scholes who wins the ball off him.

At this point the referee blows his whistle as there was no advantage for Liverpool. Scholes having not seen CArragher get tripped thinks the referee has blown for a foul against him.

He spins round & throws his arm as if to say "oh **** off ref". Referee misinterprets it as hi mthrowing a punch. If yo uwatch the replay his arm doesn't swing as if it's a punch & his hand is open, not clenched.

I cannot believe nobody else has seen it this way. If Scholes was going to swing a punch & make it that obvious then he would've made contact. Scholes isn't the kind of person to throw a punch, he is more into catching players late to get revenge.

I expect it to get overturned or at least reduced as it's not violent conduct.

The most he could get charged with is 'intent to slap'. </div></BLOCKQUOTE> </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

that's what I saw but I'd have to see it again, as I was in the pub and wasn't sure whether there was a whistle prior to the "swipe".

United must be brave to beat Roma

To maximise their chances of beating Roma, Manchester United must gamble on 4-4-2 in the Eternal city.

Paul DoyleMarch 9, 2007 12:42 PM

Since Liverpool have already proven they can beat PSV in this season's tournament, and Chelsea face a Valencia side likely to be decimated by suspensions, it's fair to say Manchester United, in a radical break with tradition, have been handed the hardest draw of the three English teams left in the Champions League.

United's opponents, Roma, do not suffer from the same dysfunctions that afflict Sir Alex Ferguson's side in Europe. They play with a similar shape to the one-up-front formation United use away; the difference is that it suits them, whereas it blunts United. Ferguson has muddled through the tournament with a method that straitjackets his most inspired attackers - Cristiano Ronaldo has still never scored in the Champions League, while Wayne Rooney has found the net in just one match, and that was three years ago. Such caution could yet smother their chances.

Being spearheaded by a lone pivot is alien to United but Roma, in Francesco Totti, have a player who is completely at home in the role. Dropping deep to feed overlapping runners (especially Mancini) or to dart forward with ball at feet comes more naturally to him than it does to Wayne Rooney and will present Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic with a challenge they rarely face.

United's defenders prefer direct confrontation, and they are uncomfortable with drifters. Meanwhile Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes are not as diligent in tracking runners from deep as they should be. Lyon unravelled because Roma deftly undid the thread that had bound them together for so long.

Earlier today, Ferguson name-checked Danielle De Rossi and Mancini as Roma's main threats, but he would be unwise to rely on Totti succumbing to yet another bout of stage fright, since when their playmaker doesn't perform, as he frequently doesn't on the biggest platform, Roma's adlibbing is often prosaic but effective.

The best way to sunder Roma's script is to tear into them. Assuming Louis Saha recovers from his current injury so that United will have two fit strikers (as opposed to two healthy strikers, Alan Smith clearly being unfit to wear a United shirt), they should go 4-4-2 in the first leg in Rome. Because they don't want to go into the home leg having to recover a deficit, a scenario that would leave them exposed to Roma's expert counter-attacking.

Right, given that the Footies are always ‘ruined’ by our huuuuuuuuuuge block vote, and they’ve been rubbish anyway since I handed the reigns to underlings like NickOGS I thought we’d sod the lot of ‘em and just have our own naval gazing leg humping ‘AYMUY? Footies’ special

Just thinking it’d be easiest to come up with a list of categories and then have free voting. No shortlists or any of the other stuff.

Will wait until after the cup final to start the voting…
