I dont think the formation helped rooney at all.

Every england game every pundit(bare with me) said he can get frustrated and lash out if hes not getting the ball, and this is what happened.

If you want to blame anyone blame Sven for not taking an extra striker to play u with Rooney (Im looking at you Defoe)

He's a definite prospect. As Richie said, he's a right-back, very very quick, technically excellent and seems to have the right attitude. Like pretty much all our reserves (do we actually feed them?) he needs to go on the old steak and guinness diet, but there's stacks of potential there. Some reserve-watchers have been moved to describe him as a right-sided Ashley Cole, which is obviously big-time hyperbole but I can just about see the comparison.

Pretty sure Fergie recognises it - not often we loan players out at his age and stage of development. Think he'll go out again this season, there's talk of NEC being the likely destination. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Cheers. We look fairly healthy in the potential right-back department then, although Bardsley's not come on as much as I'd hoped he would.

One would assume that we've not approached him unofficially since that would be brazen 'tapping up', something we'd be better off avoiding with another G14er let alone any clubs in general.

If its true I'm guessing that we've bid, he's been told about it, as part of this process we've had words with his agent letting him know the terms of any deal with both club & player, but Bayern have rejected / are considering the offer. Probably the former until we put something suitable in. Thats if this 'bid' isn't pure conjecture.

Trevor Francis is crap. In the 2nd half, he said something like: "There's another tactical change for United, with Wes Brown at right-back and O'Shea now in the centre". He was right, but he noticed this about 15 minutes after they actually switched!

No wonder he was such a poor manager - he doesn't even notice when players swap positions.

'What seemed like the transfer coup of the decade took on a more prosaic appearance yesterday as it was revealed that Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano were hawked around several clubs before being offloaded to West Ham United at the 11th hour because they were the only club to agree to a raft of unusual conditions.

Media Sports Investment, the company that owns the players and has control over their destinies, initially wanted to sell both in the wake of the World Cup for a substantial profit on the $35m combined (then around £20m) they paid for the pair in 2004. Then, both players moved from Argentina to Corinthians in Brazil, a club controlled by MSI.

But this summer several big European clubs, including Manchester United, baulked at the price for one or both of the players. David Gill, the United chief executive, confirmed that yesterday. Arsenal, Chelsea, Seville and Roma were also reportedly among those not interested.

Instead MSI was left desperately seeking a club that would act as a "surrogate mother" for the players, on several conditions, including a contractual obligation to play them in every match, and a contractual obligation to let them be sold for profits - for MSI to pocket - at a time of MSI's choosing. Portsmouth were unwilling to take the players under such conditions, and neither were Manchester United willing to take Mascherano as part of such a deal. Gill said United were never interested in Tevez.

So while West Ham acquired two of Argentina's World Cup stars, both aged 22, on transfer deadline day, the way they will deploy them is being dictated by forces outside the club. On the plus side, West Ham reportedly paid nothing for the pair in fees, and will need to pay only half their wages, of £1.5m per year for Tevez and £1m for Mascherano.

-----

glad we kept out of it tbh. If we're to sign Mascherano it has to include buying out any obligations to MSI.

damn i was going to take a picture of that banner on wednesday.

there were some seriously buff women near me on saturday, i was by the tunnel. reckon they were players' wives or something because they were escorted to their seats and generally looked classy.

but then some a few rows in front of me kept taking their crying children into the concourses and were in no way bothered about the game. kind of annoying

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Manchester United have confirmed that Rio Ferdinand could be fit to face Sheffield United on Tuesday.

The Red Devils face a hectic fixture schedule as the season enters its final stretch, and with injuries mounting - United will be relieved to learn that Ferdinand does not have a serious injury.

He limped out of Saturday's FA Cup semi-final win over Watford with a groin injury which has troubled him in recent weeks, amid fears that he had seriously aggravated it.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Ferdinand is okay and could line-up at Old Trafford against Sheffield United.

With Gary Neville, Mikael Silvestre, John O'Shea and Nemanja Vidic already sidelined - news of Ferdinand's all-clear will be a real boost to Ferguson. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

From SSN website. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I just hope he doesn't risk him. I am confident that we can do Sheffield with a completely improvised defence.

For the Lille games, apart being clever to take the early free kick he was ****.

For Milan home, he was ****.

For Roma home. Well he had a good game there.

And that's it. In case you saw him in the group stages then of course you believe he is doing fine. Back then he was really one one of our best attacking players alongside Ronaldo and Scholes.

Evans/Pique are two awesome young CB's.

RB is the only position on the pitch where we don't have either a young person playing or an awesome kid coming through.

there'd be no park love if he was a spotty oik from gorton who'd just broken through the ranks. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I think Park's ability to be in the right place at the right time makes him a decent player and one we can rely on to fill in for anyone.

He also has a great mentality on the pitch, always running about, chasing almost everything and never giving up. The United way.

Park > * </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

whs... I think we'd have done better in our final run in, in regard to cup competions if Park had been around to challenge Giggs. Giggs dip in form surely had to be something to do with him tiring massively towards the end of the season. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

More to do with him not looking arsed & generally being crap.

Hmm, maybe, but those two have been playing at a higher level (Italy and Spain), so it's a bit of a step down, really.

May be a good place for Jonny Evans to go? He needs to play at a higher level than the Championship, I think.

Actually, are the Brazilian twins coming this summer? If so, a year in Portugal could be good for them. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The article from The Times didn't specify whether it was meant to be a loan or permanent transfer. They used the word "entitled" though so that suggests to me that it would be a full part-exchange of a player plus however much cash we owe Porto. Either way, even though they'd play regularly and get some CL experience I don't know if its ideal to send them out on loan to a mid/low standard domestic league.

Evans, as far as I know, could very well just head back to Sunderland next season which I'd be fine with to be honest. It'd do him more good to play Premiership football than go to Portugal.

IIRC the transfer of the Brazilian twins doesn't go through until next summer.
