Hes not the best going forward buts hes a really solid defender. He should do a good job for you but yet again he does seem to have a bit of the billy big ******** about him.

tbf we should be a little worried, they'll have more time to concentrate on their title push now.

Pique Watch

HALF TIME: Real Zaragoza 1-0 Sevilla

I'm doing a half time report because i'm off to dope myself up with prescription meds and try and get some sleep so doubt i'll see out the second half.

Onto the action. Zaragoza taking on the league leaders so this isnt an easy game.

Pique playing the makelele role and sitting in front of the defence. His performance is what i think Fergie thinks hes getting from O'Shea. Pique is picking up any runners from midfield, hes always closing down his man and getting tackles in. He isnt allowing anyone to get a shot in or a pass off if he can help it.

The lads on sky have been saying he has done well so far this season and its easy to see why. While he hasnt stood out hes gone about his job quietly and well and when he wins the ball he is just laying it off short to a ball player. When Zaragoza are in possession hes always there in the middle of the pitch available to recieve the ball and when he gets it he will usually switch the play to the other flank.

99% of his passes go short and he hasnt misplaced even one and hes even hit 2 or 3 long balls that found a man.

In the air he wins everything as you would expect from someone his size but overall its been a very good performance.

Its just so good to see him go forward to close a man down instead of go backwards and end up deeper than his defence.

He isnt going past the half way line at all, he has his instructions and there seems to be little flexability in them but the biggest thing is he doesnt look out of place playing in La Liga.

sounds very promising. much as i'm loathe to see players moved out of position, it's arguable that playing in the holding role negates Pique's main weakness while still playing to his strengths.

btw, not seen anything on any of the media outlets yet but the talk is that Vidic is out tomorrow with a hamstring injury icon_frown.gif

if true, reckon that gives us a team tomorrow a bit like:

kuszczak

brown

ferdinand

silvestre

heinze

?????

?????

?????

?????

larsson

solskjaer

left the midfield blank because lord knows what fergie's going to do there. fletcher right, richardson left, carrick and o'shea in the middle maybe? can't see giggs and scholes being involved.

bench maybe of heaton, simpson, evra, ronaldo and rooney - the last two more out of necessity than anything, who else is there in terms of attacking options? maybe lee martin, maybe smudger - you struggle for names after that.

Link to post

I cant see Scholes or Giggs playing either.

Midfield i'd like to see without them is

Ronaldo Fletcher Carrick Park

But like most i can see having both O'Shea and Richardson in.

And Rossi, his loan has officially ended now hasnt it so why isnt he reported to be in the squad?

Link to post

haha, wp me, completely forgetting Park. forgiveable and, perhaps, understandable after his performance at SJP.

forgot Rossi too, get him on the bench hopefully. i wouldn't set too much stall by the squad list that's been reported Taz, it's a home game and as such, there is no 'squad'. they've just listed every available senior player.

Pique Watch

FULL TIME: Real Zaragoza 2-1 Sevilla

Very little of Pique seen in the second half despite him playing the whole game.

it was constant Sevilla pressure in the second half but it was all down the flanks so it cut Pique out but when it came his way it was more of the same with a good solid performance.

Best bit of the game had to be the punch up at the end.

Diogo challenges Fabiano and the ball goes out of play and Fabiano knows the game is lost so he tries to head butt Diogo and then walks away. Diogo then says something to him and as Fabiano turns around Diogo punches him in the face and then both start windmilling in at each other and throw a good 5 or 6 punches each before other players arrive on the scene and try and split it up.

In terms of a match situation he has played only three games but his performances in training have been absolutely superb. He is dedicated trainer, very quick and brave. He has a future the boy, no question of that. It is a good game for him to take part in. With European football beckoning next month it is important Tomasz gets a bit of football. Edwin has been fantastic but I think he understands we need to give the boy some experience."

Nick hating Park. Such a James-lite icon_frown.gif

I think I could just about stomach one of Richardson and O'Shea in the starting line up tomorrow. Both would be an unforgivable crime. Which means Carrick should probably start, as I'd rather have Ronaldo on the bench to bring on if / when we need him. Villa are actually pretty rubbish at the moment, despite the draw with Chelsea. Looking forward to our front line having a combined age of 132 and yet still banging them in :*)

Oh, and by the by, I'm guessing whoever voted for me as Overall User of the Year (ahahahahahaha) in the Offies is from this thread? Touched, obviously, but really - what? icon_biggrin.gif

I like Park, he just has a way to go to make it up to me for being so utterly gash on monday icon_frown.gif

stats help required: who was at fault for newcastle's second goal? there's video evidence here, watch it again if you dare. Gary and/or Park for me - Gary should have made the tackle in the corner, and Park shouldn't have got sucked in and left Edgar free. thoughts?

Assists and at-fault-for's up for debate ofc. Suggestions for further stats welcome.

goals x2 for Scholesy

assists for Giggs and Ronaldo

yellow cards for Scholes and Neville

affg's for Neville and Park

other more mundane stuff

i've decided to keep the career stats going, and in doing so i have noticed that both Mickey and Ole are in line to make their 350th appearances for us tomorrow icon_cool.gif

before PJ says anything, i will update the youth stats sooner or later, but fyi the u18's won at home against Stoke this morning 2-0, goals from Fagan and Brandy icon_cool.gif

lies, we all know football started in 1992 icon13.gif

Giggsy scored 4 in 91/92 and one in 90/91 (christ that makes me feel old), so he needs nine to get 100 in the Prem. be nice if him and Scholesy (ideally Ole as well but that's pushing it a bit) could get to 150 in total as well.

I'd quite like Nev to break in to double figures, but I don't see it happening.

Has he really scored 5 league goals? I'm struggling to remember them... think he got one against Villa once, maybe Everton as well. I remember his European ones.

i remember one against Boro in a late season, rain-lashed 3-3 draw in 96/97, and i think the other two came in as many weeks a couple of seasons ago (one against leicester, the other possibly charlton).

yeah, bursting into the box on the right hand side. the everton and villa goals were pretty identical as well i think - overlapping into the box and scoring from a tight angle. can't recall the Boro one in detail, probably fits one or both of those scenarios.

Basle's the odd one out icon_cool.gif

*Sorry lads unless you are Mika or another thread regular with legal/law academic background/experience please ignore this post since its so far off topic it may as well be in Alaska...*

Okay, so, Mika (since you're the only one I know who does this), THE LAW...if you have any information about how best to approach applying for/gauging the quality of CPE & LPC courses, do's and don't etc. you know what I mean, can you please email me some appropriate links (see profile) as I seek to investigate the drunken claims of what some of my friends think I should do with my post-postgrad life.

Cheers.
