why exactly? the notion that there is someone better out there to manage us right now and that fergie is somehow deadwood is frankly ridiculous. i hope you are joking </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

i thought i was one of the more vociferous 'fergie in' advocates round here. icon_biggrin.gif

while i believe, and have done since august, that we will win the league, we're at millions to win both the cups as well. absolute millions. i have absolutely no faith in our ability to keep a clean sheet at home against a good side in europe, and we're an away tie vs chelsea or arsenal from going out of the fa cup.

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

who isnt? you're acting as though the manager should build some sort of invincible force, and we all know thats impossible.*

we are top and the manager is arguably on the way to building his 3rd successful dynasty. credit where credit's due ffs, some of you will only realise just how good this man is when he's gone and we have some mug like curbishley/ron atkinson/mcguinness leading us valiantly to 5th

*except in 99

gonch, you're really preaching to the choir mate. i've been arguing for ages he's earned the right to try and build a third great side.

my point however was simple if poorly worded. i wasn't suggesting that he should have walked in 99, but that it may/would have been better for his legacy if he did.

Hello! I'm from Russia.

I have an interesting discussion with another russian friend who regularly visits England. It has started because of song about "Ronaldo who made England look *****" that was sang by United players at Christmas. He says that English players who sang that sold themselves for money and lost their British Pride. And he says that for majority of football fans in England national team is bigger than there supported club. I responded that with Manchester United it's definetly the opposite due to some curcumstances all of which you now.

So we decided to ask true local Manchester United fans what's bigger for them. National team or United?

So please simply answer this question. And I want to answer only the local ones because it's what our discussion is about. And if you need to choose one what would you prefer: United winning major trophy like champions League or even Premiership or England winning World Cup?

I would rather United won the coin toss before saturday's game or a game of tiddly-winks than England won the world cup.

Taz you're wrong on this one.

There are many people who would prefer country success to club success.

tbh (and I've said this before), despite easily EASILY preferring club, I just dont have it in me to hate England as much as a lot of United fans. I can't deny I'd cheer like a mentalist if we won the World Cup.

Probably for the once in a lifetime aspect of it as much as anything. Winning the CL would match it though.

In a different sort of way - the Premiership for us would beat anything else though. This is the longest it's been without us winning it since I've supported (yea yea shut up) so I'd cry with joy :*)

i don't hate england, i just don't care much for the national team and certainly not for the FA. england winning the world cup would be a bit of a nightmare. comparing it to a potential CL win for us is just something i can't get my head round at all

it's probably easier to compartmentalise the disdain during the major tournaments because united aren't in action at that time.

during qualifiers and friendlies though, the apathy (to put it politely) about england is much more noticeable from united users on here.

yeah, definitely. not just england either - international football in general can gtf during the domestic season, my feelings towards it then range from apathy to outright hostility. bizarrely really enjoy international tournaments though.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Barcelona have told skysports.com that speculation linking midfielder Xavi with a shock move to Manchester United is wide of the mark.

The Red Devils are known to be casting around for midfield reinforcements in January having been linked with Owen Hargreaves and Rio Mavuba of Bordeaux, and Xavi is one name reportedly on their radar.

However the classy Catalan is an established member of Frank Rijkaard's first XI and has appeared in 13 of Los Cules' 16 Liga games this season - scoring in their last outing against Getafe.

Moreover, the member of Luis Aragones' World Cup squad is a rare one-club man and the Camp Nou giants have now dismissed talk that their midfield schemer could break a lifetime's bond by moving to United.

"We do not know about this subject. Normally the club does not respond to stories published in the papers but we have not received any offer for the player," a club spokesman told skysports.com.

"Xavi is a key man for us and has signed a contract until 2010."

The player himself has declined to comment on the link, stating: "I do not speak about rumours." </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

If you were asking me of course I don't think so. But that guy visited England many times and says that in London, liverpol, Sheffield and other big cities they put national side above everything. And he doesn't believe that in Manchester it's different and asked me to prove that it is so. So to prove that I think locals should answer him.

United winning the CL would top an English World Cup win by some margin.

I'd still cheer an England World Cup win, much like I supported England's Cricket and Rugby Teams in their successes. Down in Trafalgar Square for the Ashes celebration is something that will stay with me for my lifetime, and I reckon an England Football World Cup win would also feel the same.

tbh England winning a World Cup is as likely as Liverpool losing 5-1 at Anfield... oh wait icon_biggrin.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Arrested and charged for throwing a till roll. Nobody in Tier 1 complained about being hit either which makes it worse. They held us for 24 hrs before they bailed us. Due back in court in 4 weeks time. Doubt we could end up with a ban, probably a fine at worst but we're not keen on criminal records so hopefully the prosecutors will see some sense and drop the charges.

The way the Police dealt with us too was a bit over the top. Finger prints, DNA, Hand cuffs when ever they were moving us and 2 officers escorting each of us, we were searched at least 8 times in the space of 24 hrs. It's not like we stabbed someone to death. And what was the point in holding us for 24 hours? We weren't exactly a danger to society! We missed our non-refundable flight home because of it and had to fork out for a flight to Dublin and then had to get the bus down home because it was after the last train when we arrived. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

****s sake, utter disgrace. It would look fffffb if we all did it at games, the likes of Milan etc have it done so why not us. What's next?

tbh Italian clubs don't stop at Till/Toilet Roll. I'm sure if it was done 'properly' and organised, maybe we could do that. However considering the amount of dross we had to put up with from the Trafford Council over the Health and Safety mumbojumbo of the 2nd/3rd Tiers, I doubt we really want to push it. We certainly don't want them to close the 2nd/3rd tiers, as you will not have a seat.
