Well I'll begin with the italian police/crowd trouble , Italy is a ****ing hole and UEFA really need to get to grips with the italian clubs because it's happened to many times in the past (even when I went to Milan in 99, the police where heavy-handed but because there wasn't this much TV exposure it wasn't picked up on by the media). Even though i'm saying this nothing will get done because UEFA only seem to punish english clubs, now i'm not saying there wern't all the united fans were angels but theres various better ways to control a football match, can't believe how much better the policing/stewarding over here is. Typical scouser response in this thread , but nothing more than I expected really.

AS for the on-field matters, thought before Scholesy was sent packing (he should know better after missing the final in 99 and could cost us the tie)we were starting to get some rythm to our play and started to knock the ball around pretty well. No chance with either of there goals (although VDS could have probably done better with their second). As for our goal what a superb counter-attacking move with Ronnie and Ole both doing some sterling work and an accomplished finish from Rooney, such a big goal. Can't wait for the second leg , the atmosphere is going to be ****ing ace.

MoM: Ronnie

2nd: Carrick

Glad to hear the OTF guys who went are ok. Scenes looked crazy. Good match to watch as well. But I honestly think without Scholes (Vidic as well)in the 2nd leg, Roma will get a draw which they need to get through.

Mart, my phone died whilst trying to find you at Piazza Venezzia. That must've been somewhere totally different to where you actually were. icon_biggrin.gif

Just, and I mean just received the rest of your txts. icon_biggrin.gif Nice to know your were concerned for me. (Or was that the money ? Sorry about that, but it was still in my sky until five minutes ago, when I passed it on to my dad to use next week on his Rhine cruise). icon_smile.gif

Got into the stadium just before ko. To find that we were all playing Sardines again, a la Lille. And then Scholesy got red carded and the ***** started lobbing bottles at each other, and whatever they could lay their hands on at the Riot Squads.

There was one w@nker I saw that was creeping through the crowd, chucking **** at the Nazis and moving on and doing it again. And again. icon_frown.gif

Tried to find you in the ground, but not very hard, I'll admit. Lot's of other **** to contend with.

After the match, I just lost all caring, tbh. Was v. pizzed off, though not because we lost, tbh. Lack of smokage, that was. Shoulda taken some with me, but then that feckin' dog at the airport would've chosen me, I just know it. icon_biggrin.gif

glad everyone seems to have got through unscathed, although mr 07? went too didn't he?

Also, being privy to far more news than I am down here what exactly is wrong with Evra because he has to play next week after the display Gaby put in last night. He's not listed on physio room, I can't even really remember what's wrong with him.

Can people returning from Rome contact us as a matter of urgency

4th April 2007

Can anyone who was in Rome tonight please send their eye-witness statements to comms@imusa.org as a matter of urgency.

IMUSA will once again put a dossier together to submit to UEFA.

The club issued warnings to our fans making it clear that they thought that there was danger of attack from the Roma fans.

The Italian police were stationed on our side of the fence, in attack formation against United fans, in a way that only made sense if they were trying to protect the Roma fans from us.

There is something very wrong here and IMUSA aims to get to the bottom of it.

Can all fans who were in Rome tonight get in touch with us to let us know what you saw. If you have pictures or video of these incidents, so much the better.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> The entire trip was a shambles from start to finish.

Left home at 5, got to the airport around 6, flight should have been at 8.30, took off around 9.45 as they didn't have a departure gate so they parked the plane in the middle of nowhere and so we had to get on a bus across the airport. Landed, got onto coaches, which we then waited 20 minutes for the police to decide to move (a police escort at 12 in the afternoon for christs sake), coach driver drove around 20mph and we got into Rome itself at gone 3pm.

Found a bar and had a few beers and a ffffb time, singing to United songs, the locals were amazed and stood there taking pictures/videos, few Roma fans walked past and there was friendly banter, we were heading to the stadium at 6.30, again via police escort, had to wait 20/30 mins while the police made their minds up. Drove past Italians on scooters doing the cut throat sign etc, got the ground at 7ish, waited for James07? and headed inside, they didn't have "toilets" they had possibly 6 urinals and 2 cubicles with a hole in the floor. Missed quite a bit of the first half looking out for stuff being thrown, then ofc the fighting kicked in as detailed above.

Full time, we were kept in for just over TWO HOURS, they played the 99 CL Final and we didn't get to see the last 3 mins Big Grin, got back onto the coaches and arrived at the airport at 2ish to be greeted by around 50 riot police in full gear, not necessary as we just wanted to get home. Flight left around 3 (flight crew weren't ready ffs) and touched down in Manchester at 5.30.

So, around 99% of time was spent queuing or waiting.

Uefa won't do anything, that will only happen when someone dies. Disgusting really, ofc we weren't completely innocent but they were way way over the top. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Okay, firstly it’s good to hear that everyone that went off here got back in one piece.

Second, I can't condone the misguided reaction of the United supporters that charged the barrier following provocation from the Roma fans, but the whole situation highlighted once again the inadequacies of continental policing at football stadiums, and since plenty has already been said about all of that I’ll leave my disgust at the whole situation there.

Thirdly, the game itself was a bit funny in how it turned out really. I’m not happy we lost but like everyone else I guess I’m content that we’re going into the next leg one goal down and an away goal in the bag. Should make for a good return leg at least. Hopefully certain players will be closer to full fitness.

VDS, fine apart from dealing with Mancini’s long shot badly in the build-up to the second goal. Haven’t seen the replay’s of the first Roma goal from a good enough angle to see who it was that just let Taddei have all the time in the world to take his shot. Great take from the Roon after brilliant counter-attacking work from Ronaldo and Ole.

Gabby was out of position too often, Giggsy was anonymous, Scholes being pretty idiotic. Not a great night for those three. JOS either actually, kinda lucky Mancini didn’t see more of the ball.

MOM: Ronaldo, clearly our biggest threat.

2ND: Rooney probably, thought it was his best all-round game for a while.

The trouble had been brewing since kick off, bottles of urine, coins, lighters were flying over from the Roma fans into the United section. I was in perfect view of the trouble, Roma were goading the United fans ever since Scholesy was sent off, then they scored and ran over to the plastic barriers, United fans had clearly had enough and charged towards the Roma fans, the police saw this as open season and then waded in, hitting anything that moved, young/old it didn't matter, even worse than that was they had another set of riot police that wanted in on the action and again hit anything that moved, I saw one lad go down and then was hit repeatedly over and over. I then spent the remainder of the first half seeing where the police were going to strike next.

I can appreciate that you are asking for a dossier for Uefa, it's disgusting that it's going to take someone dying for Uefa to sit up and take notice. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Evra? :/

i didn't think Gaby was too bad last night fwiw (not much considering how drunk i was) and he's been good the last few games, would be good to get Paddy back though definitely.

pretty chuffed with 1-2 having said at half-time that i'd take 0-1 in a heartbeat. brilliant brilliant counter-attacking goal which i reckon we're going to be incredibly grateful for, great work from Ronnie, perfect cross from Ole and a surprisingly composed finish from Wayne.

i missed the first half hour, i've only seen the two tackles Scholesy was carded for and on that basis alone a red looks pretty harsh, but i'm reliably informed he'd put in a few dodgy tackles before then so can't have any complaints really. i love the little ginger genius but that's two really daft and irresponsible red cards in a month or so now. he's lucky that the team put in such a gutsy performance - both Roma goals had elements of luck about them and while they looked threatening at times, they didn't really create a whole lot when we were down to 10.

anyway, 2-1 down sets up a potentially fantastic game next week. atmosphere should be special, hopefully the lads will be well up for it and we can get the early goal we need to completely change the complexion of the tie. good to see the otf lads get back safe and sound, even the gloating one.

oh yeah, forgot to say - their first goal, i was a bit annoyed, firstly that we were caught napping by the quick corner and secondly that when Mancini pulls it back, there's Giggs and i think Rooney as well just stood on the edge of the box hands on hips not reacting at all to the danger. vds should clearly have done much better with the second goal too.

Scholes gets one-match suspension

Scholes will still be a booking away from a ban when he returns

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes will serve a one-match ban for his sending-off against Roma.

Scholes went into the game with a yellow card against his name and incurred an automatic one-game ban when he was booked after 26 minutes.

He was then dismissed for a second bookable offence eight minutes later.

But Uefa has confirmed that despite the red card on top of the automatic ban, Scholes will only miss the return leg against Roma on Tuesday.

When he returns to Champions League action, he will still be one booking away from a further ban.

If we were to get through, what are the odds on him avoiding a booking in the semi icon_frown.gif
