Well, I kinda think Mark's first point saying that the same claim could be made that the other 3/4 top clubs could provide important players to other clubs as somewhat irrelevant as well since thats for the most part a given.

And really when you think about some of the 2nd stringers in terms of both quality and numbers at our main rivals, I do think that it does bode better for us having the personnel and quality of players we have over the long-haul in games against the smaller clubs because without victories over them we can't compete with the others at the top anyway. Yes when you look at the general trends it can be argued that the teams that beat their immediate rivals more often secure postions one & two, making victories against them and the ability to bring in players of a certain standard important if the 1st XI are out injured or suspended important in those games, but its not unimportant that we do have squad players that are better than the likes of Fulham and Charlton 1st teamers. Over 38 games its not just our immediate peers we have to be concerned about, and given our tendency to lose/draw games against worse sides than the other top 3/4 in recent seasons thats something we could do without.

Mark's second point about squad balance & deficiencies I can't really disagree with at all since he is, y'know, right. The fulfilling of potential is crucial, but again I say that we're not as worse off as some people think when compared to Arsenal/Liverpool/Spurs & with Chelsea's slimmer (and arguably more unbalanced) squad and new tactical disposition they don't seem as imperious as they have the last two years. I'm more positive because I do think that 65-80% of the question marks we have over certain players will become ticks in the positives column for us this year & I think that will help us edge further away from last year's 3-5 and closer to Chelsea.

If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but at the minute I think that we have more reasons to err on the side of being positive - and this isn't a reaction to 8 goals in 2 games. A couple of days ago I said lets see how we fair against Spurs and the harder fixtures that follow before getting to excited. This isn't undue positivity, this is conviction.

I thought Scholes was great icon_confused.gif The amount of times he got the ball in a crap position but didn't panic & played it off to someone else (Usually O'Shea so he could hoof it out of play/to Arsenal/at the linesman) amazed me. The way he doesn't panic & just turns until he finds an outlet makes him so good.

Although I guess the utter shambles around him made him look better.

Just the same as other years bar the higher first jump.

Wasn't it £5 more for a semi ticket last time we had gotten fairly far??

Asking £40 for a £30 ticket for a semi is a bit rch mind thats a 33% mark up ffs.

Just reading O'Shea's wiki page, I found these paragraphs amusing:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> In the 2003-04 season he frustrated many Manchester United supporters with a series of technically inept, slow and clumsy performances displaying poor accuracy of passing, before being pushed down in the pecking order by the arrival of Gabriel Heinze. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Manchester United fans also like to chant a song aimed at John O'Shea; "Big gay John O'Shea, say big gay John O'Shea". This is as many football fans believe O'Shea to be homosexual, and this rumour was made toi be more believeable when a national newspaper printed a story stating that two famous Premiership footballers had "phone sex", where one player had the phone on vibrate, but the phone in his bum, and waited for the other to phone him. Players rumoured to be involved were O'Shea, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Richard Wright, and Michael Dawson. None of the above players ever commented on the rumours, except Ashley Cole, who said, "Why the **** would I ever want to do that when I'm getting married to Cheryl. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Ronaldo was my MoM. Goal aside he had 2 or 3 of those runs where he did 2 or 3 and went close. The lad just looks so determined to win the title, i dont think there is anyone in the side who wants it more.

The diving header to prevent the ball going for a throw near the half way line typified Ronnie today.

And Giggsy, i thought he was head and shoulders above everyone but Ronaldo. He scored a good goal and made some great runs that spanned the length of the pitch as well as a couple of good tackles when tracking back.

What. A. F**king. Game.

I expect there's nothing to say which hasnt already been said...

but erm... wp lads

and take that Carrick/Fletcher doubters icon_mad.gif

the former taking hold of a game and grabbing goals to boot without Scholes alongside him.. in a huge game.. when many thought he didn't have it in him.

Fletcher in his best position just doing what he does best, and being very good at it.

aside from them 2, no poor performances, except of course a token 'KR gives the ball away' session \o/

VDS needs to die because he is too old? Could well be age catching up with them after a long season, and if they can't handle it, they shouldn't be playing. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

In the last 6 weeks we haven't had a defence, he made two mistakes a few weeks ago and now he "shouldn't be playing" wtf? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

stfu you po faced moron, he isn't and was never Big Pete, so why shouldn't he go? He isn't "fb" at all. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

ahahahaha you want to play without a gk then? because no-one is "big Pete". </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

because that's what I said. wp.

Big Pete's untouchable, Edwin isn't. And whilst he wasn't at fault tonight (and I never said he was, but wp on that) I don't think it's correct that he's 1st choice next season so he can go, is expendable, can be sold.

Or shall I get goon to say it in idiot for you? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I never said he wasn't expendable, though 'selling' him is a bit far fetched, can't see us getting any money for him, and would you really want us with no experienced goalies as number 1 or 2? You said he's not big Pete so why shouldn't he go? simple answer, he's the best we've had since Big Pete. He's one of the best gks in the league, maybe not the best, but you try and convince Mourinho to sell us Cech.

right, this is lurching dangerously close to shambles territory i'll admit, but some awards business:

a few people have voted for players out on loan in the young player category. in hindsight this should have been allowed from the start really, my bad. obviously i'm sure people have voted for someone when they may have otherwise voted for a loanee, so if you want to change your vote, fling me an email at the awards address and i'll change it (unitedawards2007@gmail.com)

while you're at it, i really like gonch's idea of 'favourite player/cult hero' so if you want to email a vote in that category either on it's own or with the young player amendment, that'd rule. and anyone voting from now on should tack this award on (i'll add it on next time i re-post the voting form)

the OTFUTAC would like to apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your tolerance of such f**kwittery.
