Adapting to the opponent, change every game, more to look at?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I always spend time building tactics, until I found the "hot spot"

Got a really nice 4-3-3 now, modificated it and made a more defensive verision as well.

Been doing well, won the league with everton.

But Im thinking more about adapting to the opponents.

The OI is going well for me.

But adapting even more.

So, I started looking at the scout report for once :D

And didnt it work wonders.

Although I the favourite in both games, I completley dominated

Match 1.

Newcastle away. Never an easy game.

Watched the report, did the OI.

Also saw that Newcastle struggled against 4-2-3-1

So I changed my 4-3-3 into a 4-2-3-1 formation.

3-1 win and dominated the match.

4-2-3-1 is kinda similar to my original form

so I kept all instructions and all that

Match 2

Sporting Lisbon at home.

So I played the B team, backup ST aubameyang, ovideo, peruzzi in the back line, 20 year old Will hughes, spanish LW talent and so on.

They struggled against exactly my formation, 4-3-3 so I kept it.

5-0 win with the B team.

Now I cant belive how "stubborn" i have been just always playing my form.

This seems to work wonders.

Now, should you do this for every game?

And what else is there too look for?

And can I keep my shouts for most of the formations?

I guess it depends and its better to have other shouts against other opponents, if we are getting into details.

But what could I do to evolve this, and is it always better to do this?

It all depends really. Some people imo go way over the top with regards to adapting to the opposition and over do it at times. Sure subtly changes are good but if you find you have to constantly adapt from the style and philosophy you've tried to create then I'd question its the wrong one to begin with. Some users like to do what you did above anc change shapes to deal with certain threats or because they have certain expectations. Myself I prefer to stick with the one shape and tactic and make very slight changes based on what's happening in the game rather than trying to second guess what might or might not happen before hand.

There is no right or wrong just, only a way that suits you and the way you play.

Yeah, the thing is, I keep the way I play.

Since the formations are very similar. For example, I play 4-3-3.

With an AP set to attack, so he is kind of the hidden CAM. which makes it very similar to 4-2-3-1

But I was surprised, just played City and they struggled against 4-4-2. I just made a quick 4-4-2, never even used it before. 1-0 win...

This is really OP i think, changing formations.

But is there a guide for this?

If you know what formation the opponent play, which is the best formation to tackle him with?

And what is the "worst" form to tackle him with?

So far I'm doing very little from match to match.

I keep the same formation, mentality, team shape, roles, duties and PIs. The only thing I change are combinations of Play Wider / Narrower and Exploit The Flanks/ Middle. Nice and easy.

You make it sound so easy :D

I went from making no changes to making tons of changes constantly. Now I find myself making minimal changes when absolutely necessary (mostly due to time constraints) and it's been just fine.
