stabwest
Dream Land Albion Rovers lifted the Division two title (2012/13),16 years after they last won it. a bore draw 0 - 0 with East Stirlingshire was enough for them to be crowded champions. speaking to many of the players, there over the moon, can you blame them? plans for next season Davie? oh def need to build the team, I do expect a few players to be leaving, but hey thats football one min your lifting a league title , next your being shown the door. its a huge step up going into the 1st, but its one am looking forward to. Hamilton wanted to speak with you about being there manager, yeah they did and i refused to speak with them, like i said about Peterhead, whats the point of going backwards, I know the Accies are in the 1st , but they coming down as there 10th, while am going up. stabwest
New Heights 9 games into the new season, and sitting 3rd in the first, and a mouth watering cup tie against Rangers in the League cup Q/F, could life get any better for Davie Orr??? by James Traynor. JT a great start to the new season, how do you view it? DO totally gobsmacked, we've hammered a few teams this season like Livi 7-0, Dunfermline 6-0 and Falkirk in the League cup 5-1, long may it continue. JT its been noted that lately many clubs in Scotland can't field more than 4 Scots in a game, whats your views on it? DO am baffled by it, am looking at teams like Hibs,Dundee Utd,Falkirk,Motherwell and St Mirren and struggling to find you more than two Scots in a team, the nation team has 5 home based players in its 22 man squad, time are def changing, look at Robert McDougall at Stirling ,who done a great job taking them from the 3rd to the spl in 3 seasons, but there ain't one single Scot in his 1st team squad, he should be ashamed of himself and shot. JT a bit harsh don't you think? DO well no , thats why i said it. JT looking forward to the Rangers game which is at home. DO wow thats a dream come true, my childhood team coming to Cliftonhill, its already been highlighted on the teams fixture list, yes everyone looking forward to it, but of course keeping our mind on the league as well, as the last thing we wanna do is slip into a dogfight. JT plans for the rest of the season? DO well I've failed to bring in the players i was hoping for, but looking on the brightside, I've took astep back and looked at the u19's for talent, as my u19s team are currently unbeaten in 57 games in the league, they've won there league for the last 3 seasons and are leading it so far, plus there the holders of the u19s cup, which they've held for the last two seasons, afew of these players are starting to break thru into the 1st team, but if the transfer market stays the same for me, more will be coming thru. JT is Mark Peters about to leave? DO no, but i can comfirm Everton and Wolves where both scouting him, I've slapped on a £5m transfer fee. JT are you off your head £5m DO yes, if i do lose him i want to make a few quid, no harm in trying. ScottishSteven
Well after the incredibly disappointing end to last season, losing out on the 3rd Div title by a couple of goals, and then losing the playoffs too, it seems that things have finally took a turn for the better. After signing 18 players, and another 6 on loan, all to the cost of £325k (eek!!), it shows that money can buy you success, as The Sons now sit on top of Div 3 in our 9th season, having won 9, and drew 1 of our 1st 10 games. With the pain of last seasons disappointment, it appears that the players are determined not to have a repeat of then..... Have to be certs for the league, and maybe even sneak a wee result or 2 in the Scottish come winter.

dm_gers
Season Report – 2013/2014 Rookie manager David McGowan II took charge of Stranraer just before the start of the season and brought 6 players in with him to try and achieve the boards aims of a mid table finish in the Scottish Third Division. Midfielder Neil Bishop and striker Kenny Deuchar were both brought in on free transfers after both of them were released from their Stirling contracts. 18k was spent on a back up left-winger, Scott Downie and 14k on another Striker, Danny Brown. John Swift and Ross Campbell were also brought in on free transfers. The squad looked fairly strong pre-season and we had high hopes of fulfilling our goals but alas, the season didn’t go to plan. The first game of the new era was a Bell’s Challenge Cup tie against Stenhousemuir at home, which we lost 1-0. Not the start we had hoped for but the first few months of the season were not that bad, we were sitting mid-table just outside the play-off positions come October, exactly where we were meant to be. Then things started to go downhill from here. After a 4-0 thrashing of Alloa at Stair Park on the 12th of October, we then went on a terrible run which saw us without a win for 2 whole months and then some. Then after 2 back to back wins, we then went on another streak of not winning, this time avoiding victory for 6 games before a 2-1 home win against Cowdenbeath. By this time, we were hovering about the bottom of the league, which was very tight – only a few points separating the bottom clubs. Best game of the season for us would have been the 2-1 away victory over league champions Dumbarton in February. They had been going strong all season with only 1 defeat before this game and it was great to pick up all 3 points and McGowan II claimed the victory for his side was made even sweeter for the fact that Dumbarton manager Rooney was your “token timmyâ€. After this game there was outside hope of clinching 4th spot, which shows how tight the league was at most points throughout the season. However, the rest of the league campaign was again very disappointing and hugely inconsistent from Stranraer’s point of view. The final league position of 9th was wholly deserved and there can be no complaints from a team who were simply not good enough. Only notable player to mention from the squad was top scorer Kenny Deuchar who bagged himself 22 goals and will be a big part of next years team, even at the age of 33. ScottishSteven
Well, we did it in the end! After the disappointment of last season, we finally managed to win the 3rd Division for the 1st time in the club's history! To be fair, we did it in some style too, only losing 2 league matches all season, and setting a new points record for the division at 88pts. Player of the Year Jason Taylor was outstanding in his 1st season at the club, scoring 33 goals in just 30 games after his £30k move from Moor Green in the summer. The other stars of the side were Steven & Stuart Smith, both excellent young prospects, both in the Scotland U-19 side at the moment. In fact, we now have 6 players in the side who have represented their country at either U-19 or even U-21 level, with the average age of the squad under 23. Cups weren't so great, going out of the League and Challenge Cups at the 1st round, but made it to the 3rd of the Scottish, before losing to SPL side Partick 1-0. Next season is going to be very tough, as signings will be scarce. With the 1st 3 matches of the new league against fellow human managers, the 1st month should give an idea of whether the board's expectation of fighting relegation will come true... ScottishSteven
Into the 2nd!! Going into this season, we were a bit apprehensive as to how things would go. With only 1 signing, a free transfer from Moor Green, and losing one of our best players to division rivals Dunfermline for 250k, we thought we might struggle. However, our fears were misplaced. 6 games into the league, 6 wins. Couldnt have hoped for anything better to be honest. 12 scored, only 2 conceded, it just remains to be seen whether our young small squad can keep it up. After going out in the 2nd round of the League Cup to SPL Falkirk 2-0, the Challenge Cup was our other focus. We now have the biggest game of my career so far, a semi-final against Steve's Livingston, who are going strong at the top of the 1st. Should be a tasty one that! This season, Michael Charles has come into the side, as Jason Taylor was out injured, and has took over his scoring streak, knocking in 9 goals in 11 games already. With the squad all playing well, a healthy bank balance, and not too many injuries, could we copy Stirling Albion and make it 2 league titles on the trot? Only time will tell..... stabwest
Chasing the Dream with 10 games to play Albion Rovers lead the way for Champions league spot, upcoming games St Mirren H St Johnstone A Rangers H Hibs A Motherwell H then the league split " I can't believe it, only 10 years ago i was planning my 1st match with Albion Rovers against morton in the Bell's Challenge cup and looking forward to my 1st season in the 3rd. To think from next season i could be planning matches against the true gaints of world football. with European football looking ever likey next season, its time for the board to break the bank, and build a new stadium or increase capacity of Cliftonhill, and of course give me a few quid to spend. heading into the final quater of the season i have a 95% of the squad fully fit, it clearly helps having 22 coaches with Ally McCoist being the lastest coach to join. well to the chase all those clubs below me "
dm_gers
Promotion? While manager David McGowan II took a break from life at Stair Park for the first half of the new season, assistant manager Stuart Millar led his Stranraer side to a fine position in the Bell's Third Division. Before McGowan II had taken off before the start of the season, he tied up 2 deals to bring new faces into the squad. Striker Joe Flurry was brought in from Dumbarton and defender Darren Robertson from Berwick, both free transfers. Stanraer's season started in increasingly familiar fashion with a 3-0 away defeat to Ayr in the Challenge Cup. The poor cup form continued as ever, when Raith Rovers then thrashed us 4-1 in the CIS Cup. Millar then led the team to 3 straight victories in the league, something that hadn't been achieved yet in McGowan II's time at Stranraer. There was a lot of inconsistency between that winning streak and January, but the most important thing was that Millar had managed the team to third in the league before the manager returned, the highest position they had been in at that point in the season. An added bonus was the fact that Stranraer had managed to advance to the third round of the Scottish Cup, ensuring a bit of extra money was brought into the club in doing so. One of assistant manager Millar’s last pieces of business in charge was bringing in former Chelsea and West Brom defender Neil Clement as a player/coach for free. Manager McGowan II returned in time to take charge of his side against Hamilton on the 10th of January, stating his commitment to the job and desire to finally achieve something at the club. The first 2 games back were 2 home draws against Hamilton and Berwick, not the best of returns then and a change to the tactics was in order to ensure we didn't slip back down the table. This worked a treat as we ripped Montrose apart away from home, Kenny Deuchar scoring 2 and summer signing Joe Flurry bagging a goal. Next up was a deserved 2-0 home win against Arbroath before another away win, this time at East Fife. Next up was a 2nd v 3rd clash as we hosted Cowdenbeath. We dominated this from start to finish and the 3 points would have seen us break away from The Blue Brazil as we were both tied on 47 points before the game. Unfortunately, Cowdenbeath's keeper Colin Appleton was on great form, winning man of the match and keeping us out the whole game. He even made a last minute penalty save from Neil Clement which would have gave us the win had the defender scored but it was not to be and the final score was 0-0. We then finished off with a 3-2 win against Brechin. All in all it was a great night for Stranraer and we are only 2 points from the top (as can be seen from the tables above) after going through Sunday’s session undefeated and we have a massive game up next, away to league leaders Peterhead. Bell's Challenge Cup – 1st Round (eliminated by Ayr) CIS Insurance Cup – 1st Round (eliminated by Raith) Scottish Cup - 3rd Round (eliminated by Dundee) Scottish Third Division – 2nd (currently on 50 points from 28 games) Finally time for me to take a team to promotion? I wouldn't bet on it

stabwest
Living the Dream Albion Rovers have done the unthinkable and booked there place in the Champions League Qual.3rd, thanks to finishing 2nd in the SPL. dm_gers
Season Report – 2014/2015 Stranraer knew they were in with a good chance of promotion when they secured a 2-0 away win over league leaders Peterhead in early February, especially after their excellent start to the season, which is documented above. However the rest of the campaign didn’t plan out exactly how McGowan II would have wanted for his team. Only 3 Third Division games were played in March, resulting in 2 bad losses for the Stair park side and only one win which was a 2-0 victory at home over Berwick. This left 4 games left for April and with Cowdenbeath and Peterhead scraping for top spot along with Stranraer, at least 9 points should have seen McGowan II’s men take top spot but it didn’t quite work out that way. It all started off so poorly in the run in with a 0-0 draw at home to Montrose where the team had 9 shots but couldn’t get a single 1 on target. This immediately put the pressure on to win the remaining 3 games. The next game basically sealed Stranraer’s fate as they only managed another draw, this time away to Arbroath where they equalized in the last minute. It clearly wasn’t Stranraer’s year and they would have to settle with a play-off spot, rounding off their league season with a 3-0 defeat to Cowdenbeath which made them champions and gave Stranraer a final position of 3rd in the league, much improved over all previous seasons. Stranraer’s first appearance in the play offs was up next then and they would start off with 2 legs against 2nd placed Peterhead. The first game was to be played away at Balmoor Stadium where another sensational away win was recorded for Stranraer, this time coming back from 1-0 down to win the game 2-1. The home tie was a 2-0 win with goals from John Swift and Gary McGowan, putting them in the final against a Hamilton side that finished a place below them in the Third Division. Stranraer dominated the play off final from start to finish but it was Hamilton that took the lead in the 41st minute through striker Kevin Cumming. The men from Stair Park just couldn’t find a way past the Hamilton keeper, Kenny Deuchar even missing a penalty in the last few minutes that would have put the tie into extra time. Very harsh not to get promotion this season but we’ll push on for top spot next year and if we can make a few decent signings, there’s a good possibility of that goal becoming a reality. Bell's Challenge Cup – 1st Round (eliminated by Ayr) CIS Insurance Cup – 1st Round (eliminated by Raith) Scottish Cup - 3rd Round (eliminated by Dundee) Scottish Third Division – 3rd (finishing on 59 points) Play Offs – Final (eliminated by Hamilton)
