Rasharkin - Northern Irish Premier Division - 30/31 (Season 22)

Media Prediction: 1st

My Prediction: 1st

Final Position: 1st

Cups

European Super Cup: Winner!

Our first ever appearance in the Super Cup and we did very well. We were against Liverpool, who won the Champions League last year. Liverpool were probably the better side, but we managed to take the game in to extra time. The game finished 0 - 0 after extra time and we were destined for the dreaded penalty shootout.

Luckily we are a side with a lot of very good penalty takers and they weren't as good. We won \o/ 4 - 2 on penalties :)

Champions League: Group Stages.

This year we were drawn in a group with Liverpool who we had just beaten in the European Super Cup and Porto, who we beat in the Euro Cup Final last season. Beitar Jerusalem were also drawn in our group.

Results:

Rasharkin 0 - 3 Liverpool

Porto 2 - 0 Rasharkin

Rasharkin 3 - 0 B Jerusalem

B Jerusalem 0 - 2 Rasharkin

Liverpool 0 - 0 Rasharkin

Rasharkin 4 - 1 Porto

We were pretty lucky to qualify. Only a last minute goal against Porto in our final game of the group took us through to the next round.

First Knockout Round

When we were drawn against Real Madrid in the first Knockut Round I was pretty worried, because I thought they were a pretty good team. They had only won one major European Competition in the last 20 years, so they were a team that we could beat. The 1st leg was very close, but Willie Holmes managed to nick a goal in the 81st minute to give us a 1 - 0 lead going in to the 2nd leg in Madrid.

The 2nd leg was also a very close game. As we were in the lead on aggregate, all we needed was a draw to go through, and that is exactly what we got. We drew 2 - 2, with goals coming from Keith McCullough and Carmelo Carretero.

Quarter Final

In the Quarter Final we were drawn against Chelsea, who have bought 3 of our best players over the last 5 years. This was going to be a hard game, but I knew we could do it. In the First Leg Keith McCullough had an absolute stormer of a game, scoring a hattrick, in just the 2nd half. They led 2 - 1 at half time, but our second half performance was absolutely brilliant.

The second leg was different. We were 3 - 1 up at the halfway mark this time and the game was pretty much out of their reach. Could this be the year? Well with performances like the last 2, I think we have a very good chance.

Semi Final

We were set to play against Liverpool again. We had played the 8 times in the clubs history, but never beaten them (apart from on Penalties) which was not a good sign. We were in good form at the moment though, so we definately had a good chance of winning this game. The 1st Leg was very good. We were 1 - 0 up in just 9 minutes and we dominated from there. The game finished 3 - 1 and we had beaten Liverpool for the 1st time in the history of the club. Was the 2 goal lead enough to take us through to the final though?

The 2nd leg was very tense. We were nervous and it was showing as Rubio missed a penalty in the first half. As the game went on though, we settled down and Liverpool started to get desperate, diving in to challenges. This lead to a sending off for them. They were 1 - 0 up by then though, but still needed another goal. They couldn't get the equaliser and we're on our way to the final \o/

Final

The Champions League Final - Rasharkin v Lyon - The Preview

After 22 long season, Rasharkin had finally made it too their first ever Champions League Final.

Lyon Squad

A few players missing, including possibly there best player Johnny Cooke, who was a product from our Youth Academy. My scouts thought he had crap potential. So I sold him to Portsmouth for £350k. They sold him 2 years after to Lyon for £31.5m. Gutted.

Lyon's Road to the Final

They got a fairly easy group and the only hard game they really had was against Barcelona.

The Lineups

Both teams look strong. They have a very strong midfield, but without their main striker they could lack attacking options.

Match Analysis

They are favourites, but I don't care.

Good luck Ridleys  I can't believe someone's actually got this close, I hope I can with FM 09 tbh. Good luck on getting Deano in as a member of staff too.

The Champions League Final - Rasharkin v Lyon - Full Time

What a 2nd half performance!!! We were on top for most of the 1st half but I didn't expect us to be so brilliant in the 2nd half as well.

We scored a goal straight from the kickoff and from there we were just fantastic. We scored 2 more goals and looked extremely comfortable. Challenge Complete :)

Congratulations Ridleys  Someone's finally got there with Northern Ireland. But boy did you take your time posting the second half! Kept us all waiting.:p

You may well have inspired me to put down my Dafuge challenge for a while to have another crack with Clough Rangers, will have to see how I feel later on.

I've found if you let him go on a free and then offer him a contract his demands go right down, is he on 48,500 p/w as a player by any chance?

Rasharkin - Northern Irish Premier Division - 30/31 (Season 22) - Full Update

Media Prediction: 1st

My Prediction: 1st

Final Position: 1st

Cups

European Super Cup: Winner!

Our first ever appearance in the Super Cup and we did very well. We were against Liverpool, who won the Champions League last year. Liverpool were probably the better side, but we managed to take the game in to extra time. The game finished 0 - 0 after extra time and we were destined for the dreaded penalty shootout.

Luckily we are a side with a lot of very good penalty takers and they weren't as good. We won \o/ 4 - 2 on penalties :)

Champions League: Winner!

This year we were drawn in a group with Liverpool who we had just beaten in the European Super Cup and Porto, who we beat in the Euro Cup Final last season. Beitar Jerusalem were also drawn in our group.

Results:

Rasharkin 0 - 3 Liverpool

Porto 2 - 0 Rasharkin

Rasharkin 3 - 0 B Jerusalem

B Jerusalem 0 - 2 Rasharkin

Liverpool 0 - 0 Rasharkin

Rasharkin 4 - 1 Porto

We were pretty lucky to qualify. Only a last minute goal against Porto in our final game of the group took us through to the next round.

I've found if you let him go on a free and then offer him a contract his demands go right down, is he on 48,500 p/w as a player by any chance?

Yeah he was, but he has just become out of contract, so when I offered him a new one he only wanted 1.3k

I don't want to sound cheeky Ridleys but if this is the end of your save could you upload your db so that I can have a go at it please?

Congrats Ridleys:thup:.

You certainly did it the hard way.

The "group of death" consisting of the Chamoions League holders, the UEFA Cup holders and the UEFA Cup Runners Up. Poor little Jerusalem. They did well to get a point out of that little lot.

Then it was Real Madrid.

Then Chelski.

Then Liverpool.

Then the final.

What a tough run.

Amazing achievemnt though:thup:.

What really made me laugh though was your comment about selling Johnny Cooke for £350,000 onlt for Portsmouth to sell him for £31,500,000 2 years later. Harry may be dead by 2031 but I see his spirit still lives on at Pompey.

Really really really impressed. Well done.

A few players missing, including possibly there best player Johnny Cooke, who was a product from our Youth Academy. My scouts thought he had crap potential. So I sold him to Portsmouth for £350k. They sold him 2 years after to Lyon for £31.5m. Gutted.

Now thats when a 50% sell-on clause would be sweeeeeeeeet.:D

I've made about 6m thanks to 2 sell-on clauses this season

iirc I made all the money needed to turn the club professional from sell on clauses. In fact I'm due another one when a striker scores 4 more league goals.

Good luck for wherever it is you choose dave safc.

It's been a good season financially thanks to sell-on fees and prize money. With a month or so of the season to go we've made a profit of 17m so far, Not bad for a club with an 8000 capacity stadium :)

Although I am due a spending spree as 3 of my best players are refusing to sign new contracts and will most likely be leaving at the end of the season.

£17M profit in one season is amazing. You must have had some huge sell on fees.

Surely a spending spree won't put too much of a dent into that profit.

CL Prize money was about 5m of that, CL tv money was another 2.5m and 10m in sell-ons and player sales. One sell-on was 4.6m IIRC. Full details will be in the season update tonight.

I'll probably spend 2-3m on players in the close season although I'm still trying to break out of the mentality of spending small amounts on transfers and wages. I'm currently spending about 25k of my 100k per week wage budget and my record signing is about 150k :p

Once I had more money, I found I was still making small 'bargain' transfers. Players who commanded higher fees were either not willing to come or not worth that much. I splashed 2mil on a Danish defender one season (my record transfer at Blsany) and he turned out to be rubbish and was kept out of the side by a 19 year-old who I had bought for 5k two years earlier! For me at least, developing talent seems to get me better players than major transfers.

Here's another one for finances - the stadium has just been expanded again to a whopping 52,400. First game with the new seats - Champions League v. Liverpool. A record attendance of 52,375 - good, good. Record gate receipts of.... 95k  By my calculations, that means the average ticket price at Blsany is just over 1 pound 80, which must make us the best value team in Europe! :D

Seriously though, you think our ticket price would have increased just a little over the years to match our success. Even just 4 or 5 pounds would bring in so much more money...

Sporting Fingal - Irish Premier Division 2017

Transfers

January saw AML Paul Clark off to Sheffield Utd for 250k and Goran Gavric to Dundee Utd on a bosman. To replace them in came Henrik Pederson on a free and new Final record signing Diego who cost us 230k and announced his arrival with a debut goal. Also arriving from Brazil was DC Giovanni as a replacement for Hilton who was being fined 2 weeks pay regularly for missing training and match days and joins Preston for 250k in July.

Summer saw another AML, N.I. International Alan Pollock leave for Hibs after he became unhappy and decided nightclubbing was more fun than training. Most of his pay from March to June was lost in fines. Also leaving was my versatile DRLC Cristian Ungureanu who was snapped up by Leverkusen. With only a few youngsters with potential as replacements to be found the squad is in a definite downturn this season.

Bigger transfer news came in late August when 2 huge sell-on fees came in. We got £1.9m when Islander Rob Boyles moved from Ipswich to Reading and £4.3m when Lee Kemp moved from Wigan to Bolton. Not bad for a kid who was at the club when I arrived. But the biggest news of all was O'Donovan signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until he's 31. It cost me over 10k per week to convince him but the deal is done.

The Domestic Season

All-Ireland Cup

5 wins and a draw in our group games setup a semi-final against Bray Wanderers who we beat 2-0. In the final we beat a stubborn St. Pat's 3-1 to win our 6th All-Ireland Cup.

League

We started the season with 15 straight wins and never looked threatened. Our 6th League win on the trot was confirmed with 9 games to play and we ended the season unbeaten with our highest points total yet having dropped just 6 all season.

Irish Senior Challenge Cup

Despite tough oppostion from Bohs and St. Pat's in the early rounds we breezed into the final where we met Drogheda Utd. It took a replay but we had won the Irish Senior Challenge Cup for the 7th time and the 6th year in a row.

Europe

Champions League First Knockout Round 2016/17 Season

As group winners I was hopeful we could get a 'weaker' team, but we got Liverpool, current UEFA Cup holders. We were never in the first leg at Anfield, losing 0-3 so despite a fantastic 4-3 win at home we were out 4-6 on aggregate. Some consolation was Liverpool went on to become Champions of Europe beating bitter rivals Man Utd in the final.

Liverpool 3-0 Sporting Fingal

Sporting Fingal 4-3 Liverpool

===============================================================================

Champions League Second Qualifying Round 2017/18 Season

We were spared the first qualifying round this year and as seeds for the second round we drew Brann of Norway. We scraped a lucky 1-1 draw in Norway to take into the home leg. Again we were **** poor going 0-1 down just before half time. It looked like this years European aventure was going to be very short until Simecek equalised in the 83rd minute. No more goals meant the match went to extra time and then penalties. We slotted home our first 3 while Brann only managed to net 1 of there first 4. We were through, just.

Brann 1-1 Sporting Fingal

Sporting Fingal 1-1 Brann (Sporting Fingal win 3-1 on penalties)

Champions League Third Qualifying Round

Seeded for the first time in this round we were given a trip to Switzerland to play Basel. The home leg was close and we took just a single goal advantage to Switzerland thanks to a 90th minute winner from Pederson. 0-1 down fter 13 minutes in Switzerland it took another 90th minute goal, this time from Brazilin star Andrade to equalize and send us thorugh 3-2 on aggregate.

Sporting Fingal 2-1 Basel

Basel 1-1 Sporting Fingal

Champions League Group Stage

Seeded 4th we drew Chelsea, Galatasaray and Rangers. In previous seasons our qualifying round form gave me some cause for optimism but this year unless our luck held it was looking like a tough challenge and so it proved as Chelsea eased past us, Galatasaray took a well deserved point away from Turvey Avenue and Rangers beat us 2-3 thanks to 2 goals from Fingal old-boy, Tengesdal. 3 games played and we were bottom of the group. Our home game against Rangers saw a much better showing as we beat them easily and then we got an excellent draw agaist Chelsea at home, considering they'd forced me into my 3 substitutions by the 41st minute due to injuries they inflicted. Going into the final game we were 3rd ahead of Galatasaray on GD and 1 point behind Rangers with Chelsea already confirmed as group winners. Win or draw with Galatasaray in the last game and we'd be in the UEFA Cup or if Chelsea did us a favour against Rangers, the Champions League knockout stages. Despite having more possession and more attempts on goal we lost 1-2 leaving us in last place and out of Europe.

Chelsea 4-2 Sporting Fingal
Sporting Fingal 2-2 Galatasaray
Rangers 3-2 Sporting Fingal
Sporting Fingal 3-0 Rangers
Sporting Fingal 2-2 Chelsea
Galatasaray 2-1 Sporting Fingal

Other News

Our biggest stadium expansion yet was announced with 3600 seats being added to the Stadium. I also reached the 500 games in charge milestone and was declared a true connoisseur of the beautiful game.

Stars of the season were O'Donovan with 41 goals in 40 games during an injury hit season and Simecek who got 32 goals in 29 starts and 15 sub appearances. Brazilian MC Andrade also deserves a mention with 17 goals and 19 assists in 47 games.
