Updates on the next season starting either today or tomorrow. I haven't had much time to actually play the game lately, so the updates are almost caught up with the actual game.)

Sorry if you are feeling lonely attjen, we do enjoy your creativity and hard efforts here. Grtifying to see the BvR is still helping Roma achieve glory. Too bad that he has not helped his native Faeroe Islands to any type of international success. I would have thought the von Liechtenstien-von Richtofen combination would have been more successful.

Just you wait BvR.. Remember, von Liechtenstein had to lift his game from Spanish pub standard to international standard for so long...

Now I am at least in a more competetive league your supply line should improve substantially

PS Attjen, any idea how many international assist von Liechtenstein has?

PPS Maybe I should try a BvR style renaming and go for UvL? icon_smile.gif Something to ponder

Frankly, meadow lane, Gilles Lefty has been brilliant. His years in Croatia made him one of my nemesis players, but he's been fantastic for Hertha.

BvR is just a football playing God. There I said it. icon_rolleyes.gif)

"Luxembourg shocks Belgium in first leg of WC play-off!

In what must be considered one of the biggest upsets of European World Cup qualification, minnow European side Luxembourg defeated Belgium 4-2 at the Stade Roi Brussels.

Belgium took the lead in the 17th behind a Valgaeren goal before Luxembourg found their form and stormed back.

Despite playing a 5-3-2 defensive formation, all of Luxembourg's attacking players had their eyes on goal. Juel Hansen tied the game up in the 24th. The Monaco player took off on a solo run that beat two players before unleashing an effort that few in the stadium thought would threaten the net. The ball went in clean and the game was on.

Belgium pressed their attack looking to finish off the upstarts, but when Luxembourg broke on counter-attacks they were looking dangerous.

Lefty made the Belgian defense pay for a poorly timed tackle by burying a penalty in the 31st minute so his side could take the lead.

Belgium continued to maintain possession but found their chances flying off target.

In the second half a Leweck header saw Luxembourg jump out to an unbelievable 3-1 lead.

Belgium reacted quickly, and Van de Ven narrowed the gap. Luxembourg took the next possession and forced some pressure on their neighbors.

A series of moves found Juel Hansen, but goalscorer Van de Ven made a well-timed tackle. Unfortunately for him, the ball fell to Den Rooster who skimmed a low shot into the net to end all Belgian hopes.

Luxembourg put all 8 of their shots on target to consistly pressure the heavy favorites.

Allen Juel Hansen was named man-of-the-match on the day for his goal and for his excellent ability to hold onto the ball on the dribble, giving his side time and space to open up the Belgium defense.

Some Belgium fans are already calling for the resignation of their national manager, but the Belgian FA says they will take no action until after the second leg, and remain confident that the national side can overturn this incredible deficit...."

"Belgium disgrace as Luxembourg qualify for World Cup

Football pundits the world over are scratching their heads as Luxembourg destroyed Belgium 4-1 in the second leg of the play-offs to advance to the World Cup on aggregate 8-3.

It was the Allan Juel Hansen show at the Municipal stadium where fewer than 10000 fans were attendance. The Monaco striker had a dominating game and a hattrick on a day in which no player on the pitch was near to his equal.

Luxembourg dominated this game start to finish over a thoroughly disheartened Belgium side. Juel Hansen finished easily from a 15th minute corner, and when he stroked home at the toll of halftime, Belgium had no chance.

When Juel Hansen finished his trick in the closing minutes, streets of Luxembourg were already packed with celebrating fans...."

In the Fall of 2009, Novalja manager Mattimosi Janz had led his team to an unbelievable undefeated start to the 2009/2010 Croatian first division campaign. With several of his players gaining Croatian citizenship, and a key signings playing well, everything was clicking for the club. Even European games were going their way.

Most in the Croatian and European press failed to be impressed, and didn't expect the success to last for long.

They were right.

Novalja proceeded to lose league matches to bogie team Sibenik and Osijek (5th and 6th in league) and despite what looked a favorable draw, crashed out of the UEFA Cup. Bradford, an English 2nd division side, playing in the tournament for their previous year's FA Cup win, were led by 36-year old veteran Ryan Giggs to a 4-3 aggregate win. (The difference coming on a highly dubious Giggs-won PK in the return leg in Bradford which finished 3-1.)

It was at this time that we here at EuroFoot Profiles (or EFP), (weekly on-line publication, subscriptions on sale now, 24.99 for a year) contacted Janz.

We had heard rumours that Janz claimed, among other things, to have discovered 20 stars prior to joining Novalja. Among these include former World Player of the Year BvR, and Luxembourg star striker Allan Juel Hansen.

Upon being contacted, Janz provided us with the series of files and news clippings that we have reproduced here for our loyal readers.

Without taking sides in the veracity claims of 'discovery', we here at EFP have begun to do a series of our trademarked 2-3 week profiles of several of these stars, or not-quite stars as the case may be, for even without the Janz claims they all have something in common: high-class players from small European countries.

We will begin this series in a few days with Marseille captain and striker, Georgio George.

EFP Interview leaked

EFP have started their new magazine with a bang after they managed to get an interview with Marseille and San Marino star Georgio George. George has been setting France a-light with his superb performances and was more than happy to answer a few questions for the magazine, on one condition. he got free subscription for life. EFP couldnt turn it down as they wouldnt get this opportunity again.

Interviewer: Welcome Mr George, lets get down to the nitty gritty.

GG: Oh please, call me Georgio.

I: Ok then Georgio, you've really been showing the world what a great player you are over the last few seasons and managed a big money move to Lyon aswel. What ahs been your best part of your young career so far?

GG: Well I would have to say getting my first cap for my beloved San Marino. It's always an honour to be picked for your country and i just hope we can make it onto a big stage before i retire.

I: yes it would be great to see a smaller nation getting onto the big stage.

GG: Hey, we are in the top 100 countries in the world. Above countries like Scotland, Norway, and Jordan. Thats two big mountains we climbed to get over Jordan.

I: Yeah i know what you mean, haha, So whats next for you and your marseille team?

GG: well who knows. Maybe a few more French championships and a good run in the Champions League. I would like to test my skills on a bigger stage and a move to Italy or England would be great. ive a soft spot for Fiorentina and Middlesbrough so i would jump at the chance to go there. but for the time being i am a Marseille player so until they dont want me anymore i have to stay here.

I: Sure. its been reported in the Daily Sport that you were crawling out of a club at 3am a few weeks back. Are you not scared of what your Long Term girlfriend thinks of that?

GG: Im sure Miss Lopez doesnt mind. She was waiting up for me when i got home so all was fine. She knows i wear the trousers so its all good.

I: Ok, well i wont mention the THAT video then, dont want you getting in trouble with your teammates.

GG: erm...erm...No comment

I: What are your chan....

Sat 16 Jan - Nantes, French First Division

---

Metz 2 (Camara 77, Basualdo 88) Marseille 1 (Escude 12, Basse - Red 35th)

Called on to be captain after defender Radoi was injured in the 13th minute, George played well on a day when Metz finally broke through against a 10-man Marseille. His overall play on the day helped his club as the came up short for any points.

George had an early chance in the 5th minute as he had a run into the box but shot over as he was crowded by defenders. Once Metz had tied the game up, George had his best chance of the day as he beat Traore and Custodio and unleashed a low shot, but Michel saved very well.

---

Marseille 2 (Bru pen 8, Chapuis 60) Lens 0

Captaining his club again, George wasn't having his best day but still contributed, especially by his ability to win the ball in the air. George was shackled a bit by Lens ability to catch the striker offsides.

---

Marseille 2 (Joseph-Augustin 20, George 46) Lorien 0

Captain George led his team to a good win over counter-attacking Lorient who were led by striker Bap Zamber. Marseille also had their keeper to thank for a stellar day between the sticks.

George sealed the win in the 46th minute by out-jumping overmatched El-Karkouri and heading the ball past the Lorient keeper.

---

Marseille 2 (Zurawski 4, pen 52) Clermont 2 (Abdessadki 55, Ortega 66)

Clermont won on penalties 4-5

George did not play in this match that saw his club fall out of the League Cup.

---

Nantes 4 (Dalmat 20, Turdo 42, 72, Ouchene 58) Marseille 2 (George 22, Bru 40)

A ultimately down day for George that started brightly as George scored his 50th league goal for Marseille with a headed ball from a Laurent Robert cross. Marseille temporarily had the game tied up, but after Marsilee went up 2-1 George had to go off the field injured.

Marseille folded after that with Charbonnier having a particularly bad day.

-Hidetoshi Nakata, AM RC

Schedule:

Sat 9 Jan - Perugia, "

Wed 13 Jan - Atalanta, "

---

Roma 4 (BvR 3, 45, Crespo pen 53, 89) Pescara 1 (Conti 32)

Roma were never threatened as they came into the game with a 3-0 lead from the first leg. BvR made it a laugher early by combining well with Crespo to finish past a stranded keeper.

After Pescara briefly got back into the game, BvR headed home a Kewell cross to end the underdog's chances completely.

Crespo finished twice in the 2nd half in a game where BvR and Crespo, and the Roma team in general, were far too much for Pescara.

---

Revised Schedule:

Wed 30 Dec - Milan, Italian Cup Qtr Final Leg 1

Wed 6 Jan - Milan, Italian Cup Qtr Final Leg 2

Sat 9 Jan - Perugia, Serie A

Wed 13 Jan - Atalanta, "

---

Milan 1 (Shevchenko 8) Roma 1 (Nakata pen 85)

BvR struggled a bit in a hard fought first leg, but was still one of the better players in a offense that was having difficulty.

BvR almost got on the board in the 29th when he got loose in the penalty area and half-volleyed a Totti cross, but Abbiati dove well to parry it away.

The striker had a half-chance in the 65th minute as he tried to create a goal from nothing by swerving a ball from well outside the box towards goal, but he missed well wide thanks to the Milan pressure around him.

BvR's hard work was finally rewarded in the 84th as he was chopped down by Contra in the box. Nakata scored the pk to even up the game and give Roma hope for the home leg.

---

Roma 0 Milan 3 (Shevchenkko 24, 86 Donati 45)

BvR was the only Roma player who could find a shot on goal as Milan played Roma off the pitch for an easy win. Roma keeper Pelizzoli had a terrible game as Roma crashed out of the cup.

BvR showed fantastic vision in the 12th minute as he tried to lob Abbiati, but the Milan keeper recovered quite well to knock it away.

Abbiati denied the striker minutes later on a long low drive from outside the box.

He missed badly on a difficult volley in the 65th minute as Milan continued to dominate the game.

---

Perugia 0 Roma 4 (Crespo 10, 16, 19 BvR 72)

A dominating game from BvR and Crespo as the two demonstrated their strong combination skills.

BvR gave Crespo his 2nd and 3rd on the day from two excellent assists. The striker almost got on the board in the 30th minute but Ferri saved well.

He was not to be denied in the 72nd minute as he picked up a Nakata flick-on at full speed and unleashed a wicked shot that rippled the net.

---

Roma 1 (Cassano 83) Atalanta 0

Short day for BvR as he was substituted in the 21st, shortly after he missed a chance from a Totti through-ball.

Fulham 2 (Cornwall 59, Craib 86) Millwall 0

Poor day from UvL as he was substituded just moments after his best play of the day, striking a ball at goal well, but having it saved.

---

Millwall 2 (Graaven 27, Wilcox 70) Grimsby 0

A good win for Millwall on a day UvL had a decent overall performance. UvL volleyed a sweet shot in the 24th that was saved. The midfielder also was part of a strong team move in the 33rd that crashed off the bar.

Millwall sealed the game in the 70th when UvL picked up a loose ball and squared it in for Wilcox to take in stride and score.

---

Portsmouth 1 (O'Neil) Millwall 2 (Shilton 2, Graaven 17)

Not a great day for UvL. Involved in play well, but picked up a yellow. Best moment came with a 68th minute chance that went wide. Substituted in the 76th.

---

Milwall (Graaven 22, 69 D. Johnson 83) Coventry (Hughes 10, Cruz 44, 73)

UvL's best game in this timespan for the exciting draw. Involved in Graaven's 22nd minute goal on a nice team move, and seemed to have an assist in the 25th but the goal was ruled out for offsides.

Again in the 63rd, von Liechtenstein set up what looked like a goal but Graaven's header was cleared off the line.

UvL also set up a late chance for a winner, but Dutruel saved well on David Johnson's shot.

---

Tranmere 2 (Hay 20, Gower 23) Millwall 0

UvL did not play in this cup defeat.

Sorry, your managers have been pretty terrible and don't know how to use your natural talents. In fact, they should be sacked.)
