Anti Spiral
Don't know why the fuss about arsenal 03/04. Decent side, nothing special. yeah I wonder why there is a fuss about that team.
Redshift
He said he was brought in as second position behind Valencia. I don't think he meant as backup, but rather to have 2 people in that position. Or maybe he meant Valencia is going back in to a winger position. Sid1984
arsenal 03/04 were no better than united 02/03 or Chelsea 04/05. Similar level.

Sid1984
Never said they weren't good, they were good. They just weren't of the standard like say United of 99 or 08 or Barca of 09 or 11. It's just the arsenal fan pundits on sky (merson, henry, Nicholas) go on about them as if they were of that standard.
Andrew_
Did that Arsenal team have to do it on a wet night in Stoke?
scott MUFC
this was the arsenal side with Pires, that dived in the box to salvage a point at the best team in the south coast? (portsmouth)
Sid1984
this was the arsenal side with Pires, that dived in the box to salvage a point at the best team in the south coast? (portsmouth) Can't knock him for that, he had to do it to maintain unbeaten record. However this so called amazing team only won 1 trophy that year. It's not like they won a PL/CL double or the treble.
Pangaea
Combined with Sid's lunacy in OTF, is he 'related' to the alias chump that got banned a while ago?
Sid1984
lower than Chelsea in both 2005 and 2006. Lower than united in 2000
Sid1984
Yeah exactly, and those were great sides. Same with our 2009 side. You don't get 90 points in the league without being a great team ffs They were very good but a level below the 99 and 08 united sides. Never denied they were a good side.
Sid1984
So being slightly worse than the two greatest sides in the Premier League is just "very good" is it? Give over you clown. No they were much worse. They were slightly worse than the Chelsea of 2005 an 2006 as well has united in 2001. However they are talked about as if they were the best which is a bit silly even for the biased arsenal panel.
Sid1984
Arf, you're incredible. PL, CL and FA cup not much difference and only "slightly" better than a PL by itself? ok, each to their own. You mentioned a clown. Only a clown would rate the champions league as ever so "slight" of an achievement.

tomtuck01
Club Brugge, CSKA Moscow, Lazio, Monaco, or Rapid Vienna in the playoff round for the Champions League. Screwed if we draw Lazio or Monaco.
Sid1984
Still doing this shambles? My word. Quality of side and achievement don't directly correlate. The 06-07 side was far better than the 2010-11 side and which one got to the Champions League final? You don't go an entire league campaign without losing and not be a great side. Of course the 2007 side was better than the 2011 side. Both teams won the league only that year, so the achievements were the same. When the achievements are the same you can argue which is better. However when the achievement is so far off, for example PL, CL + FA compared to just PL, there is no comparison. The united 99 was one of a kind, they had the hardest possible draw in the CL yet came out superior. Combined with tough FA cup draw and a hard fought league. Sid1984
Club Brugge, CSKA Moscow, Lazio, Monaco, or Rapid Vienna in the playoff round for the Champions League.Screwed if we draw Lazio or Monaco. Any of them will be absolutely fine. I'd like to play Monaco and show Arsenal how it is done.
RTHerringbone
Yep, you just need to play like 2002/03 It's a bit arrogant to assume that you'd turn over Lazio, Monaco, possibly even CSKA.

If we can't beat one of those teams over 180 mins then we wouldn't deserve to be in the CL. I mean it's not like we are playing Valencia.

Machetero
Yep, you just need to play like 2002/03 It's a bit arrogant to assume that you'd turn over Lazio, Monaco, possibly even CSKA. Lazio would be bad and Monaco is nasty in slowing down the game and bogging down any attack. Other teams, including CSKA - should be easy.

Sid1984
CSKA's location is the main worry. They outplayed city last year over the two matches in the group stages.
Rio_V
What is going on in here? Anyway, 6 games in 2/3 of August should give us quite the early warm up. When was the last time we had this many matches so early? And will Kane be ready to step right in? :D
craigcwwe
Would expect us over two legs to get past any of the teams in the draw. Of course there are "easier" ties in there, would rather not have to face Lazio as that would be the toughest possible tie. Would rather the team didn't have to travel to Russia. Rapid Vienna or Club Brugge please.

JJ72
have much have we spent this year overall, can't be much accounting for Di Maria and other sales? Obviously Di Maria's contribution wasn't worthy of the fee so we should expect to improve but there must still be plenty in the pot. 83mil from Depay onwards, gross spend. Pangaea
Transfermarkt have him on 28m euros, so then it should fit (almost £20m ) PS: The useless media have a really bad habit of mixing up € and £.
Pangaea
There will probably be one or two more, and doubt we've seen the last in DDG saga either. Almost a month left of this madness after all.
themadsheep2001
So just under £15m? Would be quite surprised if that is the end of our outfield business this window in that case. There is Pedro to come in, and if "rumours" are to be believed DDG to leave (Ramos still hasn't actually resigned yet so god knows what's going on yet) and Lloris to come in, and i think he will look for one more outfield player anyway. sebsy
Fairly sure £40m could be spent in many far wiser ways than on Harry Kane, for reasons that have been said many times over in this thread. Anyway, Di Maria officially gone. Glad to see the back of the pillock, and frankly it would be hilarious to see him fail at PSG, if I'm honest.
