Help with last minute goals

Recommended Posts

I seem to lose an awful lot of last minute goals, many in time added on. I have tried changing strategy to defensive or counter. I have tried dropping deeper, retaining possession etc. I have even tried creating a special "Park the bus" tactic but nothing seems to work. I can be leading by two goals at half time and still end up on the losing side.

Anybody got a good way of defending a lead?

Late goals can have a lot to do with player attributes like Work Rate and Concentration. Take a look back at some of the late goals you're conceding. Are they resulting from errors or lack of effort from a particular player? For example, a common culprit is an attack-minded fullback allowing crosses, in which case you might benefit from substituting in a more specialised defensive player for the last stretch of the match.

I agree with THOG and I've faced this last couple of days in a new PSG save. I have good players but we continually concede late. Came up in a press conference. Looked at my player attributes, I had only one player 16+ for concentration (that was a January signing!), while no-one terrible most were 10-13 range - clear weakness for a top side in France.

Looking at player attributes is a good place to start. At the same time you should also take note of the exact point in the game when the opponent changes to a more attacking setup. If you watch the game in 3D, you can learn which zones they intend to overload and with what type of player. You can then place a defensive player in that zone that's good against defending the type of attack you're facing. Eg, a tall good in the air player against high balls or a good positioning player to close off passing lanes.
