Regional leagues with National Championship

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I couldn't find anything myself.

I'm looking to revamp the English leagues with a regional system consisting of 6 leagues (NorthEast, NorthWest, MidsEast, MidsWest, London and South). Each regional league would have a top division of 8 teams and an unplayable feeder league with variable numbers dependent on the region (1 team would be relegated/promoted per season to freshen the top tiers). All of this, I think is fairly simple to do.

However, once these divisions have played their season I'd like the top 2 clubs from each regional 8 to feed into a national championship (in a league format) to see who's the best in the land. Can anyone point me in the right direction of how this can be done? I understand there's a championship playoff option but would that recognise the six regional leagues? Also I'd like control over prize money of the national championship final standings which I don't think I can get with a playoff.

As for the remaining 6 regional teams per top tier I'd intended to put them in to a group then knockout type cup competition to extend their season and to see who's the rest of the best/earn some cash in the process. I've literally no idea how I'd tell the game to add teams 3-8 from each regional division into a cup. Can it be done?

I'm aware that advanced rules are a lot more flexible but I've never used them before.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

I like your concept!

I'm not sure what you mean by "recognizing the regional leagues". If you want the 12 top teams to do a regular round-robin in the playoffs, what would be the problem? If you're thinking along the lines of results from the regular season carrying over (as in teams from the same region not playing each other again in the playoffs), I don't think that can be done. Maybe with the advanced editor, but I don't know enough about that.

As for the prize money, I believe you're right. You can only set a prize for the winner of the playoff.

I know you're asking for a nationwide cup for the other 36 teams, but an alternative suggestion could be to have a relegation playoff with the 6 teams in each region and with the regular season points carrying over?

With regards to "recognising the regional leagues" I was referring to the fact that I guess I'd have to create a parent division with 6 regional sub divisions, and didn't know if adding championship playoff league from that would pick the top 2 teams from each regiona division to create the playoff, or have 6 seperate playoffs (one for each regional league).

I guess for prize money I could add a prize fund per win/draw/loss and that would give a bigger fund to teams who made the national playoffs.

I do like your solution for extending the regular season for the 6 teams left behind in each division. Certainly spice things up a little.

Ah - in that case I don't think you'll have any problems. Just add the championship playoff on the division level (not sub-division) and you should be fine.

As an aside, I've never tried this myself with a top division, but I would think that a top domestic division needs to crown a single champion (and runners-up), if only for continental qualification purposes.

Anyway, in my experience the best thing to do is to test it as you go along. So when you have what you think is a workable file, start a game and simulate the first season to see if it works as you intended...

Here's how I would do it (don't know if this will work on FM15):

1) Add the tier 2 feeder leagues as active so you can edit their rules

2) Specify for each regional division which feeder league it will relegate into - and vice versa

3) Then make the feeder leagues inactive

If that is not enough, you might need to specify regional divisions on both levels for all clubs to make sure they end up in the right division - you should be able to do that with mass edits.
