Pope8911
I would really appreciate some help on whether or not I should change my tactic for every opponent or build a tactic based on what I have as I'm not very good at seeing other teams weakness I have read loads of articles but they seem to have so many conflicting messages. I'm now about to start a new save so any help would really be appreciated thanks in advance.
bababooey
Create a tactic that outlines how you want your team to play, in general, and then make adjustments when needed. But the key is, getting the team to play the way you envision first and foremost.
Pope8911
Ok thank u for the reply would you suggest setting up two three tactics say for example counter or more attacking but keep the ti the same or just different roles or have different formations ready in case of injuries. And also any advice on how to stop being dominated by bigger teams
bababooey
Ok thank u for the reply would you suggest setting up two three tactics say for example counter or more attacking but keep the ti the same or just different roles or have different formations ready in case of injuries. And also any advice on how to stop being dominated by bigger teams There is no right answer to that. It all depends on what you want to do, and how you want to play the game. Some people like to be very adaptable and create multiple tactics for a season, others don't. Some people will make a lot of adjustments, some won't. It's really up to you. I think it would be wise to have a plan B in case of injuries or something though, especially if you dont have a very big squad. That's just my preference. As far as bigger teams go, often times they will attack you leaving space behind them. It's up to you to figure out how to utilize that space. I do not recommend trying to soak up pressure for the entire match. Defending in FM is vastly improved this year over previous editions, but it is extremely difficult to expect your team to soak up pressure for 90 minutes against a better side. So I think you'd be better off trying to engage the opposition a bit further up the pitch, try to keep guys behind the ball, and then counter-attack into space left open by the opposition. In other words: don't try to park the bus. I think a lot of people get in trouble doing that... they assume, right okay, I'll just put everyone on defend duties, and set my team to be "rigid, defensive" and park the bus. But what that really does is just invite the AI to hit you with wave after wave of attack. You need to relieve the pressure somehow. That's the key. Leoforos
If you're not very comfortable with the tactics creator and reading the game I would recommend to start with a single system and make adjustments when needed. This way you can actually understand what works, what doesn"t and why. While researching tactics online you might get the impression that this match engine runs solely on a hard counter system ( in the sense that one formation or role might hard counter another). While this isn't completely false it is usually overstated and you'll find that it's more a question of trying to bypass your oppositions strengths and exploiting their weaknesses. A balanced system should be able to deal with everything, especially since the AI mostly sticks to standard formations. From there it's a matter of personal preference and squad depth. Seagullfan
When you set up a tactic you need to know what every player in the setup is supposed to be doing. If you take the time to watch matches or the highlights afterwards you can concentrate on each individual in turn to see if they do what you require. If they don't then it could be that they aren't good enough to do what you want or that what you are trying to do is not working for some reason. With this information you can then either look to replace the weak players in the system or tweak the roles/positions to make them work how you want. I play an older version of FM but find that regardless this approach seems to yield results. However you do need to invest time in this and that's not to everyone's taste. I have a 4-3-3 I have been developing with a view to achieving a Euro slot in the coming 2-3 years. After the first season I have made several tweaks to roles whilst maintaining the same overall game plan/vision and intend to carry this on until I have what I require. Also I am bringing on youngsters to fit the system and will look to focus on their PPM's etc when I have nailed down the roles/duties for each part of the setup. As I say it's not everyone's cup of tea to take as much time as this to develop a system but I find I am enjoying it and can see the development clearly as it progresses. Also it is a great way to analyse and understand what each position and role actually does on the pitch
