how to defend against various types of crosses?

Recommended Posts

The aim has to be to stop the cross, so try to identify who it is that passes to the wide men, and take him out of the game before he gets the ball to the crossers. And / or, you can use a variety of PIs and OIs to apply pressure to the wingers (i.e. man mark them, tackle hard, show them onto their weaker foot, move them in field etc.)

Additionally, you can force the wingers inside by showing them onto their left/right foot (for right/left-sided players respectively). This is very effective vs sides with big strong target men. vs small, quick strikers (because showing the wingers inside will result in many through-balls) your best bet is to either man-mark and hard-tackle the wingers or stop them receiving the ball.
