chocolatecoatedballs
I do agree it is harder to get a good price for your players, but it is easier to get a percentage (40% for example) than previously for a squaddie. That's ok for me, why do people want to buy dross, rather than an inform player. But if that player is a rising star - key player, I do not enjoy the dynamic at all, or rather the 'our evaluation' dynamic. If a player wants to discuss leaving for a bigger club, you cannot say 'sure, as long as they meet - our evaluation of you', because that just means 'sure we will sell you for any value, in fact we pretty much don't want you here, not very important at all'. For example I had a 17yr old who I played regularly in the championship, after making that promise I had to settle for 375k 25% of next sale and a few other clauses, bringing the 'potential' total to 1M. Because I said if they matched our 'evaluation', if you do not sell at any price he goes dismal and a team who have the biggest grins on a person, become poorly. He still had a lot of growth in him, was dominating the championship at 17 (average rating was 7.3 or something). Another championship player, 28 yr old (so he had no growth) sold for 1.5 M, the sale was probably very similar to mine and I am sorry, I didn't have a look at his profile, but the name didn't stand out as someone who had caused me trouble in a game. Now I was not asking too much, I thought I was being realistic in asking for 4M negotiable. He had a four year contract (resigned that year), was a key player and my assistant was saying he had the potential to be a good premiership player, but he was getting a lot of game time at the club and close to going up to that next level. Now the clubs situation is we are financially pretty good and in January we are 2M profit from of the start of the season without cup runs, we don't need the money. We were title contenders 3rd - 2nd all year, so were close to going up. I also reason that if a club buys a player for 4M rather than 1M, they are keen to have him in the mix sooner rather than later and be a perennial bench warmer, so I think I am looking after the player as well in a way, or so I reason. So I don't think I am being unreasonable and when you put forth a 'negotiable' reply, they immediately withdraw! I couldn't even remove all the clauses and raise the sell on % one notch up grrr. Two big problems are reputation has too much influence in FM, always has. Sure it has a bearing, but a bit much if you ask me, but that is something different and not what made me want to throw my cup of coffee at the wall. The other is the promise 'our evaluation', my evaluation - asking price set in the transfer status was no where near met and to not even negotiate on anything is just stupid. I said I would negotiate, so if you are keen, negotiate a bit with me and make me feel a bit better about the deal, that's how trading works. You Quote under the value, I quote over it and we meet somewhere in the middle. Now the player get's angry because I didn't sell him, I didn't promise to sell him, I said if a certain price is met, we would. So if it happens to another I have to agree to any proposal, or all hell breaks loose. Another is the responses after it has happened to the player, after he comes to me in a fit of rage. I cannot say the offer they made was insulting to you and this club or we are about to go up, you are a key player and to leave now would harm our chances, I didn't want to sell at 1/8th of our 'evaluation' of you, 'potentially' 1/4. there is one response where you can say the 'offer wasn't good enough', and that may well be the simplistic truth, but I promised to sell at 'our evaluation', not a rip roaring profit breaking greedy record. Then if he replies that the offer made was plenty enough, the subsequent replies you can make are terrible. Have a cup of concrete princess or, that's it buddy - to the reserves with you. Where is the reply - Look mate I am more than happy to sell you for the right price, keep doing what you're doing and others will come calling, your in terrific form and there are still 6 other interested clubs. So let's crack on and see what bid comes up next.. Rant over, yep just happened last night to me.......3 times. I will never select this option again. gunner86
Did you have an Asking Price set in his transfer info. I normally set one once players start whining and I say they must meet our valuation. It's not backfired on me yet.

It's not backfired on me yet. This, set an asking price higher than what you want to sell for (To allow for negotiation), then say you'll sell when a club meets the evaluation. The asking price tends to put clubs off and if anything makes it too easy to keep your players. You might get an occasional one where you get a lower offer but it doesn't happen very often. hluraven
It's so easy to do, it's as good as cheating. Offer out for a ridiculous valuation, which will never be met, the player will like you more rather than less, and you keep them indefinitely. In 50+ seasons of FM15, across all levels, I have had one player once say anything negative, and even that was that he wanted a new contract with a minimum fee release clause as proof that I would see for a good value. chocolatecoatedballs
Yes as I said I had it set as 4M, from what you are saying I should have set it higher, hahaha. Look it's all cool and you have enlightened me, I might try it with a rotation player who is complaining and set it at 50M or something. But it felt good to have a rant Though the other conversation options seem to shut them up good and well for now.
HUNT3R
Keep in mind that some players can just be unreasonable. Take note of player personalities.
awulfclark
I'm not 100% sure if it's in FM 15--I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be--but in FM 14 I did end up with a couple of players who got deeply upset at me, to the point of alienation, when I set their asking prices too high. So, if you've got a player you've promised you'd sell on once the other team has met your valuation, go ahead and set a reasonably high valuation, but don't go overboard. My rule of thumb is three to four times his in-game "value".

True, I think his personality was balanced, so anything could have been going on behind the scenes.

Water under the bridge and all that, the other conversation options are working well for now, I was just a bit peeved at first, though it forced my hand on a few youngsters and their development is coming along great guns. It did ruin our promotion ambitions though, we finished 8th. The board were happy, some 16 yr olds got some experience and I hope to be in the mix next year. Understand also, setting the player value means going into the transfer status screen and setting the asking price, not to be confused with naming your price during negotiations. Yeah mate, that's what I did, but thanks for giving the heads up anyway. I had a look at Liverpool and they have him in the U21 team, he should be in the first team as second best and not far behind being no1, I don't understand what they are doing? The guys they have instead of him in the senior squad are a lot worse than him, oh well, not my problem....

chocolatecoatedballs
Gotta love that AI squad building. At least he is no1 for the U21, it really has made it apparent how bad the AI is at squad building, it's pretty bad, but like I said.....
