National Club

Recommended Posts

Doing a little reading and now asking for some general guidance from futbol pros out there. I manage Osasuna in LIGA adelante but was just hired as the head man for Spain's National Team. They are coming off a Group Stage elimination in the most recent World Cup after winning it twice in a row.

So for the question, and I realize there is no set answer. But, in real life, could a National Team manager coach both the national side and his club side? Or does the National team expect to take up all his time? And I realize the game allows it but trying to treat it realistically, and thus resigning from the club team if that would be the norm.

I'm just two weeks in since taking the Spain job and the only thing I notice thusfar is the ability to go watch other games with National side players participating. I've been skipping them as I don't want to just watch a game play out (not sure if there is a drawback there or not).

I doubt there is any real drawback unless you are anal about certain things. Managers of National teams have been club managers at the same time, i am sure Sven was England and Lazio manager at the same time when he first came to England. The game i think just allows it as its something people (like me) enjoy

I'm pretty sure all nations of a certain stature would expect their national manager to commit 100 % to the job, but there have been several examples of "double-jobbing" IRL. For instance, Valeriy Lobanovskyi managed both Dynamo Kyiv and Ukraine for many years. And it's probably more common than you'd think in small football nations...
