Help me improve my tactics

Recommended Posts

Happy to be a part of the community.I am a new member even though I have been playing FM for a while and the community helped me a lot to improve my tactic creation. Especially Cleon,Rashidi and wwfan thanks a lot for making me fall in love with the game again. I was a frustrating player loosing matches, never got the tactics right. The liverpool save after I read all their guides made me confident about what I was doing but I would like to improve and see whether I am doing things right because I am yet to fully adapt to the testing and tweaking part and analysing the statistics.

I am playing 4-1-2-3 DM formation Mentality: Control; Team Shape:Fluid

SK-D

WB-A CD-C CD-D WB-S

HB-D

AP-A BWM-S

W-S CF-S IF-A

Team Instructions: Play Out of defence, Work the ball into the box

Player instructions: I have used Close down much more for the three attacking players upfront

League result: P-27, W-21, D-5, L-1, GF- 67, GD- 50

The tactics have been successful so far this season and I watch all the matches either full or comprehensive and tweak whenever necessary. I have used OI as well successfully so far. This is the first season and I am cruising on top of the league only 1 loss to Tottenham in an away match. Lost in the final of capital one cup to Swansea. Reached Semi Final of FA Cup. Doing well in Europa league and to my surprise defeated Bayern Munich in the first leg (2:1)

I am happy with the tactic so far but in my earlier saves when I never paid attention to tactics I might have a great first season and the start loosing miserably in second season that is why I would like to get some advices and information about this tactic. I am still in first grade of tactical learning so I would love to know more, the weaknesses and how to counter it.

I know there are weaknesses in my flanks and I have conceded mostly from crosses. Another weakness I noticed is set plays. I almost concede a goal from set plays when playing a good team. The set play defending always look sketchy and I am not sure what to do. The free kick defending is default. For corners I have put five players in zonal marking. Two central defenders man marking taller players and the striker edge of the area. I am not sure how to deal with the set play defending

I am also not able to convert from set plays as well. I don't have a prolific free kick taker or players good with corner attribute so I am ok with it.

I tried to make the tactic based on crisp short passing in the opposition half with a quick break and scoring and so far I guess I have achieved it. But apart from Sturridge my other strikers have not been a goal threat. Sturridge scored 22 and my inside forward Dries Mertens scored 17. I play solo striker and Sturridge is getting injured all the time, still he scored a lot and my other strikers are not scoring at all. Origi and Ings haven't scored goals this season is almost finishing and both of them played quite a few matches. Benteke has been alright scoring 14, 8 of them from penalties but he is great in controlling the ball never gives away. But Ings and Origi have been disappointing I have tried to change the roles but they still loose the ball gets tackled cleanly whenever in possession.

One more doubt. I read about counter pressing and tried to utilize it by ticking the high tempo and close down more TI. It has been effective in some games. My Doubt is when we add a team instruction during the match will it affect the fluidity of the formation?

Sorry for the long post I am happy to be part of the community and wanted to thank the people who put forward wonderful guides and informations. I am looking to improve as well and looking forward to get a copy of FM 2016 the screenshots look cool. Hopefully you guys could review my tactics and provide me with some good suggestions Thanks a lot for reading Cheers :)
