PPM runs with ball down right/left

Recommended Posts

What happens if you give this PPM to a player who plays centrally? Does this make him tend make runs from central to outside?

I was contemplating training my central midfield support player who plays as a CM(S) on the right side of the three CM's in a 4-3-1-2 with this PPM to have him make in to out runs towards the corner to attempt to open space centrally.

EDIT:

Or would I be better to use the PI runs wide with ball?

I think runs with ball down right/left is a PPM for when the player has the ball and is positioned on that side of the field. If you want a central player to move wide off the ball "moves into channels" is what you are looking for. If you want a central player to move wide when he has possession "run wide with the ball" is what you are looking for.

If you give the player the instruction to move into channels and run wide with the ball he'll likely find himself on the ball in wide areas in which case the PPM "runs with ball down right/left" would come into play more often.

That makes sense - so PI runs wide will take him wide and this will in turn cause the PPM to kick in. In effect turning him into a winger on attack. My formation is a 4-3-1-2 with a right WB(S) and a CM(S) on the right side of midfield playing in behind my AF(A). what I want to see is the CM(S) move wide into the AM® space as he is a very good crosser of the while my WB sits in behind him. On the other side I am playing a WB(A) with a CM(D) and DLF(S) which is working nicely.
