How do you train your youngsters / promising players?

Recommended Posts

I've been conversing with a friend about the training of youngsters and how we do it. I tend to get them trained on a role (DLP for example) so they improve a wider range of attributes but my friend tends to have them work on one attribute specifically. I always get backroom advice to train a youngster's attribute but never train him for a role.

So my question is how do you do it?

If there is one obvious weakness to a player attribute that I can train individually for a year and know it will make him a better player than if I'd have kept him on player role training I will do that. If there aren't any obvious gaps that need a lot of attention I just let him train a role that covers the attributes I want him to improve in most.

If you weren't aware of it, Cleon has a fantastic thread here: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/380395-Ajax-When-Real-Life-Meets-Football-Manager-FM14 That is all about youth development. It started with Fm14, but the concepts and ideas are still well valid.
