vikeologist
Vikeologist's 2075 Challenge Completion Report The story so far. I just had one more trophy to go. The Asian Cup; only held every 4 years, and with few playable national teams in Asia. My (new) South Korea team for this third attempt at the Asian Cup was pretty good. (Oh, actually 4thattempt. I did it once with China. Guessing that’s when they sacked me.) Anyway, if this had been the Asian League, I’d have felt pretty confident, but cups are a different thing. My Korean goalkeepers, with so much potential 8 years ago, had not progressed, and it would just take one swing of the boot to knock us out. However, that swing of the boot would pretty much have had to come from the opposition’s own penalty area. Group Stage Vs Phillipines 8-0 Vs N Korea 5-0 Vs Syria 3-0 2nd Round Vs UAE5-0 QF Vs Iraq 2-0(Surprisingly close and stressful) SF Vs China 1-0 (Reallysurprisingly close and stressful. I think my goalkeeper touched the ball for the first time in the tournament). So the final was to be against Iran. Iran who knocked us out 8 years ago when we threw away a 2 goal lead. Just like 8 years ago, in the lead up to playing them, 2 of our defenders went out injured, but luckily this time it wasn’t our only 2 left backs. I’d been lucky so far withall the best teams, Iran, Japan, Australia, Qatar in the other half of the draw. But anyway, you know I did it from the picture at the top. Final Vs Iran 2-0. djdavecee
I had interviews with "bigger" clubs before taking Swindon one, Darmstadt in Germany was a job i really wanted to have a crack at, but didnt get past interview stage. I guess the restraints of not having full running of the club is what i didnt enjoy at Valencia Mestalla. The thought of being told to sell players for financial reasons, but not actually being able to sell anyone was quite annoying considering im being judged on finances lol. We live and learn, time to crack on at the County Ground

vikeologist
I think that to solve the Asia problem, it may be helpful if people add current international players from Asia when they start the game. That makes a lot of international teams from Asia available, (though I've noticed that in Africa, egypt weren't available. Don't know if its linked to the Asian change). For those who've already started, don't worry, it's possible to achieve the challenge without doing that, obviously. I just think it will be helpful to any new starters, so have amended the instructions / advice at the start of the thread accordingly. When i added players of (Asian) nationality as well, it made japan managable. i didn't know japan were managable. I mean I did the wammajamma to make Japan have real players, but i did that in FM15 as well. This isn't a change in the rules, as people were allowed to change the advanced database settings anyway. It is however advice that will make the challenge a lot easier. How do people feel? Should i remove the advice from post 3.

I hope you won't leave us and will continue to read and post here and help new challengers! I think in the end you finished three months before NormandyWept (in game time), that was really close man Of course it doesn't matter at all how many seasons you need to finish. Sure. i started FM16 aklmost straight away. As I've said before, I doubt I'm going to make a serious attempt to complete the challenge on '16. I'm just going to have fun and see where the wind takes me. That said, after being unemployed for a whole year, I obtained a job with English league 1 Southend. (I was turned down by, I'm guessing 10-15 league 1 clubs, but nobody puts vikeologist in a corner). I suppose I could always try to complete the challenge quicker than you. You only beat me by 42 years last time. I'm off to the quickest start. it's just going to be the middle and end that are the problem. I just want to get promoted. I haven't been promoted since FM14, because this challenge took up the last 14+ months. Actually, you know what. i just want to win a match. I gave FM16 a quick go when it came out, and didn't win a competitive match.

Sankalan
Not related to the challenge, but has anyone ever managed to make the afghan national team playable? I currently have all "players from top clubs" from all nations + all players of nationality from Afghanistan but they are not managable. The reason I want them is that I want to manage India and Stephen Constantine has never even got insecure in 10 years, so Afghanistan, who have swapped head coaches twice would be one team that can beat India repeatedly so that Constantine may finally leave
vikeologist
In my new FM16 save, Afghanistan aren't managable, but it really wouldn't matter how many times India lost to them. It would be World Cup and asian Cup quals that count, and as long as Constantine can count up to 11 players, he'll meet expectations. In my FM15 save i've just finished, up to 2085, India never fired their manager. They only ever retired. Of course india (presumably) weren't managable in that save, but I doubt it makes any difference.

Sankalan
But should that be the case? India has had 5 different managers in the past five years, and SI are saying that there will be only one in the next few decades?
vikeologist
This is a thread predicated on the idea that a 20 year old with no coaching qualifications or even semi-professional football match experience will be given a managerial job at (for example) a league 1 club, so you're seeking real-world accuracy in the wrong place. If you want to manage India, just create a new manager as the national team manager, and then retire him (or her) straight away. Bingo you have a job opening. Mind you, I'd probably consider it cheating for the purposes of this challenge, but you've given no indication that you're playing the challenge. Or you could use the ingame editor to make the indian national board as flighty as your post indicates that they are. Give them 100 for likelihood to sack managers (I never actually used the IGE for anything other than changing strips, but I'd imagine there's an attribute for that sort of thing). You could regard it as course correction, or improving the accuracy of the game.
Sankalan
Ya, maybe i will do that. I would have loved to converted my current save into this challenge, but for two facts: ->My manager started at 28 ->I have loaded quite a few League expansions. Details here So, I continue on my save and use the other rules from this save (though first I would like to build a dynasty at Barcelona)

threelions1goal
Okay, I need to post a report as I've finished season 20/21 (pretty unsuccessfully as usual...!!) But for those managing (or who have managed) in South Africa.......the African Confederation Cup - whats all that about!! I qualified for it and have managed to reach the group stages, yet it's taken me all through the close season, the players have had no break, it's affected my transfer dealings and I've had no "pre-season" ahead of my forthcoming league campaign, so....... For those who have been in the competition, has it had much of an impact on your following season's league campaign?? Wouldn't be so bad, but the competition doesn't even count towards the challenge!!

Wouldn't be so bad, but the competition doesn't even count towards the challenge!! Hi, Was just looking through the forums and noticed your query about the African Confederation Cup. That I'm afraid is also what South African clubs face in reality because the SA PSL season doesn't run at the same time as the CAF Calendar (PSL is August to May, while CAF calendar is February to November) . It is one of the reasons many SA clubs have cited as why they don't do well in the competition, and because financially it can be a burden, why they haven't always taken continental competitions seriously. Obviously can be very frustrating if at the end of the SA season, your registered CAF players leave the club, and you're suddenly down to a limited squad and of course have to play during the 'off season'. For a case study of how competing in it might affect the following season, might be worth looking at Orlando Pirates right now IRL, who were Confederation Cup finalists in 2015. They are finding themselves in real trouble in the PSL at the moment, and for a club of their stature, it is a big shock. Regards, Rob

I'll google Orlando Piirates in a minute and have a look at their plight. Regarding my save, I've no idea what sort of impact this will have on my team and as for the African Federations Cup, I'm not even certain I'll get out of the group stage. Should I qualify for it again, I may try and get knocked out in the first round!! No problem. Sadly it's happened IRL too that teams have got themselves knocked out early - on purpose? Not sure, but not taking the game seriously - even just last season Wits sent basically a youth team to compete in 1 leg and got KO'd. It really shouldn't happen in a continental competition, but it's hard to compare e.g. UEFA to CAF. For example there have been times it takes a team 2 to 3 days to travel to another country to play a game, so you're looking at over a week away to play 1 game with travelling there and back, and of course spending a day or two in the other country to play the match. And that of course can jeopardise your domestic competitions, which in SA's case are quite lucrative. But it's an interesting dilemma, as fans of clubs in SA are now demanding continental success, so PSL clubs have to face the challenges. Rob
sadigital
So is it kinda like the Europa League? I'm in S.Africa at the minute but havent even looked at continental tournaments yet, how do you qualify for it? It is the CAF version of the Europa league yes. Qualification usually comes through FA Cup success, but it can be league related, depending on how many qualifying spots a country has. Of course the Champions League in Africa also has the same calendar issues, so you'd face similar challenges there too. Rob
mayihavecookie
mayihavecookie's 2032/33 Season ReportManchester City - Premier LeagueLeague Table | Games | Manager Profile Not a lot to tell you about. I left New York City after our MLS win and am now waiting for 63 year old Antonio Conte to retire so I can take over PSG and go hunt those three remaining club trophies. In March, Manchester City sacked their manager after a horrible season, lying in 12th place after 30 games. A 1-3 against United and a 2-5 at home against Everton was too much for the board to take. They were still in the Champions League though, so with the quarter final against Valencia coming up I decided to give it a go. The team I took over was actually very strong. Perfect squad for a 4-4-2, with one strong player and reasonable backup for every position. We lost our away game in Valencia 2-4, but turned it around with a 4-0 at home. In the league we started OK as well. Our remaining games where quite easy, and we won 6, drew 1 and lost 1. Still we only finished in 9th. In the semi finals we met Real Madrid, and we beat them 3-2 at home in entertaining game. We were up 2-0 very soon, but had a breakdown in the second half before we secured the win with a penalty after 89 minutes. I knew the away game would be hard. And indeed, only 20 minutes into the game my right back was sent of with a direct red card after a professional foul. We collapsed and lost 0-3. And my right back wasn't even professional enough to accept his one week fine he totally deserved for destroying my CL dreams once again. I resigned after the season. With Man City not qualified for the CL next year there's no reason for me to stay. Maybe Conte will retire this summer. If not, I'll stay unemployed for another year. First I will go get that Gold Cup with Mexico! Last times winner USA will play at the Confederations Cup while the Gold Cup is played, so they will only send a B-Team to the competition. Hopefully that should make it very easy for us. threelions1goal
Ajax CT - End Of Season 2020/21 I've not posted a screenshot for this, but will do if required. Season to forget to be fair - Media Prediction to finish 5th, Board wanted me to finish "around the top of the league".......I finished 8th. Knocked out of The FA cup in the first round, knocked out of the other cup in the first or second round (can't remember) and knocked out of the Super 8 Cup in the first round too. I've lost a couple of decent players due to minimum release clauses, so I'm not certain how the new season will go. The biggest reason for being pessimistic for the new season is the African Confederation Cup running all through the summer - something I was unaware of, so it's my own fault. I've since learned that the Champions League is the same, but should I ever qualify for that, I will be better prepared. However, this season I've embraced International football. I qualified for the African Cup Of Nations with Angola, who were ranked 105th in the world. I was drawn in a group with Cameroon, Algeria and Burkina Faso, all who were ranked much higher than we were. We managed creditable draws against Cameroon and Algeria, leaving us to qualify from the group by beating Burkina Faso.........an own goal by our goalkeeper put pay to that and unfortunately we were eliminated. In the meantime our ranking had improved from 105th up to 88th. Of course I deserved to be Sacked Saying that pretty much every team who got knocked out sacked their manager - so I applied for Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana and was given the job at Nigeria Nothing yet to report there. So, new season is imminent at Ajax, I've not really strengthened my team.......August will be a busy month!! Edit - forgot that code thing...again!! GwilymJJames
2015-16 - Bangor Welsh Premier League Took over at a Bangor side with just two wins. Started well thanks to on-loan striker Joe Williams, who promptly got injured then had his loan end. We struggled after that, and failed to get into the top six at the split. More struggles followed, but we managed to get a win on the last day to avoid relegation. djdavecee
Well, so much for my optimism for my first full season at Swindon Town! Since my last update, i had to deal with a number of outgoings of players who wanted bigger clubs. I tried to convince them to stay, but to no avail. Losing several key players before the season even started kind of set the tone for what was to be a season not to remember(apart from my Capital Cup Run(see image)). How this team was capable of beating 3 Premier League sides, to then lose to bottom of league teams, at home, who haven't won a game in 12, was beyond in my opinion, a bit of a joke. Although im not a seasoned veteran of fm anymore, this is something i wanted to try rather than choosing my favoured real life team and going forward to win what i could, i'm going to stick to it, but am starting to question my ability in the game, as im finding it frustrating not being able to get something to work which i would normally have no issues doing, show must go on though! Dave Edit: my apologies for the massive images, 1st time getting them on to a forum, guess i did it wrong :o
vikeologist
dj - I know how you feel, but I think in this challenge you sometimes have to celebrate your failures as well as your successes. I don't think that most of the people doing this challenge are great FM players. I'm certainly not. I achieved the challenge by not giving up; and by not having a life, but not giving up was important as well. I used to think that I was pretty good at FM. It might take a while to make my team good, but then I'd reap the benefits for many seasons. This Ultimate Challenge is tough because once you make your team good and win the trophy, you have to quit and start all over again. My Barcelona, Newcastle and Monaco teams could have trod the rest of the world underfoot for at least a decade. It was the Youth Challenge that poured cold water on the delusion that I was good at FM. Anyway, bear in mind that at any point there's a lot more of us failing at this challenge than succeeding, but these rough seasons are an important stage in our ultimate triumph. Gwilym - Tough luck at Bangor. I managed Bangor late in my FM15 save, (you may have read). At that stage of the save Bangor were so much bigger than all the other teams in Wales that they sacked their manager if they didn't win the league. I genuinely thought before my second season that I might win all 33 league games. My delusions of FM grandeur do reappear at times. Hope Scotland goes well. 3L1G - Because I did South africa at the start , it seems a long time ago to me. Well, it is a long time ago. I remember that the African champions league timing bugged the hell out of me, but I couldn't really remember why. It certainly is nice in europe 9for instance) when you have your season culminate in a climax. In South africa the end of the season coincides with thrashing hapless sides in the early stages of the CL (Or other cup). It's noticable that in real life, no South African side has actually won the cup. SADigital - Oh well, all roads lead through South Africa for this challenge, so I hope that you will continue to pop in and see how much your work is being enjoyed by us challengees. mihc - Sorry you didn't get the CL with Man City, but I'm sure Conte will leave soon; relatively speaking since you have a few international trophies to win. You probably shouldn't limit yourself to PSG. After my 1 season, Monaco were the richest team in the world by a country mile and could have bought PSG and made them their youth team. If you had won the CL, winning the last 5 international trophies might have been quite dull. Are you going to break it up and try to win a couple of international trophies first. Maybe by the time you sinish you'll have spent far more than half your career on holiday. Anyway, good luck with the Gold Cup. It's kind of terrifying going into a tournament knowing that you're the overwhelming favourites. I found that I was really relaxed in the group stages, but once we got to the knockout rounds a sickening dread came over me. I won't forget that penalty shootout agsinst Jamaica in the Gold Cup QF any time soon.

dwnnll
Started this a few days ago before I discovered this forum, still got sunday league rep and no coaching badges etc though. I holidayed until January first season where I got the Dover job in the conference prem. Finished off the season with some very average results but not too bad, this season is going decent enough so far after 10 games too. My issue is thd club won't pay for any coaching badges at all, I cant see me getting promoted and going professional this year either. My question is should I let my contract expire this year and look for a professional club where I can get some badges, not sure how much they actually effect getting jobs?
vikeologist
I think they (coaching badges) affect the coaching attributes more than getting jobs. I'd have thought that getting jobs was more to do with reputation, but perhaps they're all inter-linked. But sure, if you want to get coaching badges, either quit, (or start again if you want to do the challenge and you didn't start off at 20), and aim for a league 1 club, assuming you're trying to progress as quickly as possible. I think getting a 2nd job can be quite difficult in this challenge. maybe even more difficult than the first. It seems as though some people's second jobs are at a lower level than their first, though with it being different national leagues, that's a subjective judgement. I wonder if quitting a job can actually damage your reputation, though you'd have thought that we would start with the lowest possible reputation. The second job is way more difficult in FM16 than in FM15 at least if you want to switch to a different league/nation. Your reputation is whats most important and in FM16 your reputation grows the same rate I guess as in FM15 in your current league/nation, but in getting a job in a different nation/league your reputation grows a lot slower. Ref. that I got promoted with Den Bosch in Holland, but had to go "backwards" to get a job at Falkirk in Scotland.
dwnnll
Hmm maybe they are inter-linked yeah, well it would make sense for them to be. I didn't start at 20 no but not too fussed. Surely I wouldn't get a league 1 job early on? Not sure what direction I want to go in right now, maybe I am best giving them another year after this one. As for loss of rep for quitting I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be quitting my contact would just expire.

mayihavecookie
Ah and by the way, we won the Gold Cup! mayihavecookie's 2033 Gold Cup ReportNews | Games | Manager Profile It really was as straightforward as I had hoped. With USA only sending a B team to the competition, there was no one even close to being a threat for my Mexico side. We beat Trinidad & Tobago (4-0), USA B (4-0) and Panama (5-0) in the group stage. Then we beat Haiti 2-0 and with another win (3-1) against Panama we qualified for the Final. There we beat Canada 3-0 and I finally won my second continental competition. On a side note, USA B finished 3rd, I guess that shows how big the gap between Mexico and USA and the rest of the continent is. Meanwhile, USA A finished bottom of their group in the Confederations Cup with only one point. I have now won the two easiest of the five continental competitions. I'll still have to go for the Asian Cup, the Copa America and the EURO. That will take a while. If you've had a look at the screenshot of the manager profile you might already have seen it: I'm now managing PSG. Conte resigned after winning the 2033 Champions League and I can take over a strong young squad with a big transfer budget. The board expectations are huge. They want me to win the league, the French Cup, the CL and the European Super Cup. The board seems to be kind of patient though: PSG haven't won the league in the last three years and still never sacked their manager. dwnnll
I started again after finding this thread so I can follow all the 'rules' for the challenge. I actually got some interviews at such big clubs I was suprised! No jobs from them though, I was in talks with top tier Russian sides who are obviously professional clubs, but I ended up taking the semi-pro team Bray job in the Organ league, who were already relegated and at end of season. Almost my WHOLE squad came to me and have asked to leave already, I can't attract no good staff at all either. Not sure of I've made the right choice but we'll see. vikeologist
mihc - You are correct. It can be any 10 different cups. It doesn't have to be 10 different countries. All 3 of us who have achieved did it from 10 different countries, (I had to manage an extra year in Wales to get the cup from the tenth nation) and I think that's how most people interpret it, but when we discussed it there wasn't consensus, and if you look at LGRT's original sacred text (Intro) it really does read as though he didn't intend for it to be 10 different countries. Despite asking him repeatedly, he never answered the question, so I guess we have to accept a doctrinal schism on this point. So, to be clear, once you get those last 5 trophies, you're in the hall. No problem. But, it does seem that most of us now are intrepreting it as 10 different nations. Oh, and congratulations on the Gold Cup. I'm not sure the African CON is easy. I'd have thought it was the hardest, because there's so many nations that can win it. The easy part is that its every 2 years, and its easy to get a job. Good luck with PSG. JoeL - Congrats on your first achievement. dwnnll - Who are Bray? Bray Wanderers (Ireland)?
mayihavecookie
They way you wrote it in the opening post I read it as 10 different nations. dwnnll
Yeah, sorry, Bray Wanderers. I like the idea of them quiet a lot even though I could have gotten better jobs I saw some nice potential in them. But I don't even have enough players for a 16 man squad and am way over wage budget with a club in a downwards spiral, all players unhappy and want to leave, in a bit of a dilemma right now.
vikeologist
The problem with the cup thing is that the question came up quite early, and at that point it was LGRT's challenge. We asked him. He didn't answer, and the rest of us fell into 2 schools. (As i've indicated, LGRT's wording did suggest that it was any 10 cups. I just thought that it should be 10 different nations. it made more sense to me). At the time that we all agreed to disagree, everybody had more cups than leagues, so i thought that it probably wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately it's now become an issue, both for my challenge and for yours. Personally I would like us all to agree that it's 10 different nations, but you've been doing the challenge awhile, and it was clear that you are counting it as 10 different cups, not 10 different nations. I did word the first post that way so that it would nudge new people starting the challenge in the direction I wanted, so that we're all doing the same thing, but the way that you're interpreting it is absolutely fine. It wouldn't be fair to change the rules for people mid-challenge. The challenge is great. (The 20 year old with no quals or exp is a really good starting point) but there are were a lot of things that weren't clear originally, and (thoutgh this is a slight over-simplification) LGRT started the challenge, and then buggered off. So, anyone who started the challenge on FM16, it should be 10 different nations. Anyone who started the challenge on FM15 can (if they choose) achieve the challenge with any 10 eligible cups, as long as they make it clear that's what they're doing, which you always have done. Sorry for confusion, but its due to the history of the challenge. To be fair, I really think it's the only grey area.
djdavecee
So, after my previous post(and short questioning of my ability lol), i had first decided after being sacked by Swindon, i was going to wait out the rest of the season, whilst thinking where i was gonna head next. Well, that was kind of short lived, as League 2 Gillingham made an approach for my services, me apparantly being their number 1 target! I decided to go with the flow, and took over the reigns with 6 games of the season left. Unfortunately, i didn't rescue a play off place that the board were wanting, but finished the season strongly, with 2 wins away from home(a 4-0 v Hartlepool, and a 4-1 v Portsmouth). Coming up to the end of October in the new season, my team are currently in 2nd place in league, winning 9 and drawing 2 out of first 13 games. Looking forward to how this season pans out! JoeLapira
MIHC Congrats on the Gold Cup and best of luck with PSG, thats some set of expectations the board of set ya. Dwnnll Welcome to my home country, Ireland. Dont worry, you'll come across the right staff and players, keep looking. The Irish First Division would be around the same level of quality as the Conference in England, maybe try and get a parent club to bring in a few loanees. That worked well for me during my time in Scotland. Dave Tough luck with Swindon, hopefully you can enjoy a bit more success with Gillingham, by the looks of it you've a very good start. What were the board expectations for this season?

Hopefully it will last because the board want me to get promotion via winning the league, which I'm not sure about given my situation at all! Tried a parent club and came back with nothing. Managed to assemble a small squad but any injuries and I'm done for so I'm going to look for a few non contract players for squad fillers. Hopefully crack on when I'm home from work tonight.
