[FM2016] Royal League (inc Iceland)

Recommended Posts

The Royal League was an annual Scandinavian football tournament held three times between teams from the three Scandinavian monarchies (Denmark, Sweden and Norway) starting after the end of the regular domestic seasons of Norway and Sweden. The four best-placed teams in the football leagues of Denmark, Sweden and Norway participated in the tournament.

This version incorporates the top three from Iceland with the top three from Denmark, Sweden and Norway seeded to split the nations across groups.

Finances are boosted to moderate levels.

Finland inclusive version to follow

Iceland and Finland included version is WIP

Yup, Finland version almost ready.

Looking at ways to expand or create a Baltic version.

Actually quite simple, but it's important to me to pick the right nations and not clash too heavily with league schedules. Example being a Celtic League for Scotland, Wales, Ireland, N. Ireland - wreaks havoc with the SPL fixtures, especially if you've got a Scottish club playing in Europe too.

Any chance to get Finland, Estonia and Faroe Islands included in some kind of revised edition of Your files ?

Are you after all three in a competition? Or a specific set of nations?

For my Part, a Version with all scandinavian countries (so + fin, ice, far) would be great, as i know i will do a scandinavian journey man eventually :) the File should be a great basis to work it out myself, but would still think itd be a logical step for you ;)

Wouldn't it be possible to make a Celtic, or even British, version and have them playing in the Summer break? :)

Updated links:

Iceland Version

Finland Version

(Not compatible with eachother)

Does this mean that Iceland and Finland joins Denmark, Sweden and Norway in these versions, or does one of the files add both of them?

I would definitely prefer a version where both Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Farao Islands are included :)

Yes, it would. It's a much tighter window tho and that's before Internationals, World Cups, Euro Champs etc....You have to basically squeeze it into 6 weeks and in certain years you've only got about 4 weeks to play the whole thing in. I'm working on it, but I'm not happy with the levels of exhaustion in pre-season, the increased injuries or the 8-9 games in four to five sort summer weeks.

There's a version with Denmark and a version with Iceland. There will be a version that contains all five nations, possibly a sixth, likely Faroe.

I would definitely prefer a version where both Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Farao Islands are included :)

See above. I'm looking at it. 6 Nations with 2 teams apiece at present. May expand to 24 teams subject to testing.

Hah... yes. I too like all my files in place for a good journeyman save. See earlier response, the Six Nation Royal League is a thing in testing at moment. May need expanding to 24 teams.

Could use a couple of testers to check out the 24 team version from all six nations. Volunteers welcome.

Incidentally, I currently have the final taking place in Stockholm at the Friends Arena, largely because asking for 'ask competition neutral' seems to see the final played in places like Israel and England? WTF? Any thoughts on ensuring a Neutral Scandinavian Stadium of a decent standard and size would be most welcome.

So 24 teams has run well for four years into 2020.

Observations:

  1. At present the winner of each group and the two best runners up are going through. I'd like to eiliminate the runners up by adding two more groups. An extra 8 teams. Going to jiggle a bit.
  2. Don't want to expand beyond the Nordic Countries. Obviously the term Scandinavia is sometimes incorrectly taken to also include Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Finland, on account of their historical association with the Scandinavian countries and the Scandinavian peoples and languages; however this broader group of countries is more colloquially known as the Nordic countries.[
  3. Can't make groups bigger as creates too much domestic congestion.
  4. This could serve as a template for other nations, Baltic, Benelux, Gib & Friends, but I need to overlay all domestic schedules and International schedules into Excel as you can end up with fixture congestion or all your players on international duty :/
  5. Would love to know how to select U21's/Reserve teams. Either for a Junior version alongside, or perhaps a worldwide U21 tournament, on a wider scale than Nextgen?

In the meantime, I'm going to tweak the groups and qualified teams. There are couple of groups where Finnish and Faroese teams are being steamrolled and I prefer one team from each nation per group.

I think that sounds great :) Is it possible for you to out that database up, for people like me who want to try it out?? :)

When I click on the links I get a message saying they doesn't exist?

Try this....

Finland and Iceland there, obviously they clash so only one at a time.

I'm having to repost every time I update/tweak as Steam Workshop does not seem to note the changes? Easier to link to my files. Just sorting an Emirates Trophy out while Royal League runs a few years, also need to tweak this expanded Nordic Royal League before release as the £$^£$^% final keeps moving to Leichtenstein, Iran and Ramat Gan in Isreal?

Yup, gimme an hour or so. I'm itching to get playing, so am trying to finalise the extra files I like to have. Hoping Uncle Sam's MLS72 will soon be playable, enjoyed that last year.

No, it´s basically an aditional european cup (like the Europa League/CL) but only for the scandinavian countries, running from Septemper to April.

Works fine as well, aside from (i think) 2 games colliding with international call ups. For my purpose i re-edited the file so that it is played with just 5 group games (all teams face each other once) and significantly lowered the price money overall while adding some prize money even for group game defeats.

The Home stadium is still random, but i have an idea for that. In the cup round (final) you can set it to "ask competition" and then under "competition" tab you can set a number of stadiums for use and name the year and the interval they are used. Should be able to set 5 stadiums and tell them to rotate each year ...

If more fixtures is the problem, you should try getting smaller groups...3*8 would be good won't it? you can easily fit that into three weeks of pre season

An idea...

Why dont you reorganise the champions league? Divide europe into groups of nations and they hav their international tournaments. Ant then the Champions league can draw teams from Baltic cup, Nordic cup, Benelux cup and so on instead of national leagues

Nah, i personally like the symmetry of each group containing 1 team from each country :) also, there is vastly different preseasons for the countries (Summer Start and spring Start). I dont mind the disparity of Home games in my format.

I guess your other idea would take months to create ;) And imo its not nescessary ...

Yeah, I'm the same, the lack of symmetry bothered me. FM OCD :)

Where are these international clashes? I need to look at changing those dates, but have been busy with modding elsewhere. Not actually played fm yet :/
