andyglynnisunwell
This is my attempt at a version of the Canadian league thats been rumoured for a while (supposedly its going to be announced after this year's Grey Cup, so fingers crossed). Its unlikely the real league'll play out exactly like this one, but it should provide a fun, competitive season, with a bunch of cups to play for and a detailed lower league and college system. I've also tried to add a full compliment of stadiums, managers, awards and youth leagues. Right now the file's only in a beta stage, with a few things left to tweak, but it should be playable. Let me know what you think. League Structure: Canadian Premier League (CPL) • A level below the MLS, roughly equal to the current NASL. Contains the two current Canadian NASL teams, the reserve sides of the three MLS teams and seven brand new teams. • Teams are split into two conferences (west and east). • For the first part of the season, teams play every other team in their conference home and away. At that point the top three from each conference go into another playoff league, where they play eachother home and away again for the title. • Meanwhile the three remaining teams duke it out for survival in another mini-league. The bottom team in each gets relegated. • I've given each team (excluding the MLS reserve sides, as if you give them anyone too good, their main team'll just steal them) a few 'marquee' players on free transfers to add a bit of star-dust to the league (as much star-dust as a Georgios Samaras or a Kevin Nolan can bring). I've also let Edmonton and Ottawa keep some of their best players. • The top four get to play the top four teams from the NASL for the Thanksgiving Cup later in the season. Canadian Second Division (C2L) • Contains the best semi-pro and amateur teams from the USL, Ontario League 1, CSL, PLSQ and PCSL, in two conferences (west and east). • Teams play eachother home and away in a standard league. •*Bottom two teams in each league get relegated. Canadian Regional Leagues (CML) • Contains the remaining teams from Ontario League 1, CSL, PLSQ, plus the a few other amateur teams to make up the numbers and fill in a few under-represented areas of the country (because who doesn't want to play in -26 degrees in Yellowknife?). Split into six conferences (2 west / 4 east). • Teams play eachother home and away in a standard league. The champions and runners up of each conference go into a playoff to fight it out for the promotion places. Canadian Inter-University Soccer League • Contains 20 of the better college teams from around the country. Amway Canadian Championship • Expanded from the current version. The ten winners of each regional cup qualify. MLS teams enter at the quarter finals. Regional Cups • Teams are split into ten local regions and play in various short cups of differing formats to qualify for the Canadian Championship. Prize money is handicapped depending on the difficulty of each cup. League Cup • A quick cup played over the latter stages of the season containing teams from the top two divisions. Gives you a chance to play some out-of conference teams you might not otherwise get a chance to face. Tim Hortons Cup • A 'Johnstone's Paint Trophy' style competition for the lower league teams. Gives them something to do in the latter half of the season. As a bonus, I've also created artwork for kits, logos and some Canadian ad-boards. I still need to finish a few bits of this, so it'll be included in the full version. V0.5 BUGS AND KNOWN ISSUES: • The Canadian Championship only includes the MLS teams in the first season (I could probably get around this by adding 'previous winners' to the regional cups). It works perfectly from 2016 onwards. The name also sometimes doesn't show up. • Relegation from the CPL still doesn't quite work the way I'd like. I'd like the relegation playoff of each conference to include the champions of the league below too, with the lowest finishing team going/staying down. This'd mean theres a chance a team won't get relegated every year. I'm sure this is possible through the advanced editor, but I can't seem to get it to work. Any ideas? • I'd like the groups in the regional leagues to be more localized but as it is they're just split into EAST and WEST for now. • CPL teams tend not to field a reserve/youth squad in the first season (possibly due to lack of players). Again, it seems to work fine from 2016 onwards. Perhaps adding fake players at the game start would rectify this? • I've bodged a new version of the NACL which seems to work, although I've had to base it Canada rather than North America. I've also had to change the date from August-May to March-October, to fit it within the Canadian system. Other than those few things, its already pretty much playable. Feel free to edit the file as you see fit and if you spot any other things that need improvement, please leave a message on this thread. I'll release a full version and the graphics in the next few weeks. Thanks.
