Possession, Possession, Possession

Recommended Posts

So!

I am trying to build a extreme possession tactic with my Man Utd. I want a minimum of 600 passes every game, and i want to dominate possession against every team.

I have now created a tactic where i dominate possession in every game(60%+), but my team struggles to get 600+ passes. Usually we have 450-550 passing attempts each game.

My TI is:

Very Flexible

Much lover tempo

Wide

Very High Defensive line

Use Offside trap

Closing down:Much More

Prevent Short GK distribution,

Use tighter marking,

Stay on feet,

Play out of defence,

shorter passing,

retain possession,

be more disciplined,

work ball into box

Player roles (4-3-3/4-1-2-2-1)

Goalkeeper D

Wingback (S), CD (D), CD (D), WB (S)

RPM

BBM, AP (A)

W (S) IF (A)

F9 (S)

I have made the players shoot less often, fewer risky passes, and fewer crosses on every player i can.

Does anyone have any experiences with this kind of tactics, or have any useful hints?

I don't think the shape lends itself to a possession game, and I think you use too many Roles with locked in Risky Passes to get the numbers you want. As a system, it lacks a pure Holding Midfielder. You Play Wider which theoretically positions your players further apart when in possession, which isn't consistent with the desire to rack up passes.
