shakey.bridge
Has anyone had any success with this combination ? I am trying to build a system and my best striker is big target man, but I also have a AMC who has good ratings as a Shadow Striker, I am thinking along the lines of giving the Target Man instructions to move into channels and roam from position to open up space for a shadow striker to attack, maybe have the Target Man on Attack duty? Has anyone used this system before or have any thought on it ?
RTHerringbone
It risks having the usual one-dimensionality that a Target Man Role brings to the game. If he doesn't win the ball, the attack is snuffed out. Conceptually the idea of having someone hold the ball up from an onrushing player is sound, it just might be better if the big fella doesn't exclusively become the "out ball" for your team; consider a different Role up front if this happens. shakey.bridge
Cheers RT, I remember reading a tactical thread on Target Men last year and it was suggested that as there is no "to feet" supply anymore, the best way to make your Target Man more mobile is set him as a deep lying forward (s) and give him dribble less, Roam from position and move into channels and thus making him a mobile target man. shakey.bridge
Or CF(s), no? He hasn't got the all round ability for that role unfortunately.
Shakes
I use that combination in a possession focussed 4-4-1-1. I do have both the target man (support) and shadow striker set to roam and move into channels to try to avoid the "one dimensional" aspect. It works well for me, despite the myth that a target man and possession don't mix. I see a fairly even split of goals between the target man and the shadow striker, with the two wingers also chipping in. Not an amazing number of goals per game - around league average - but my team is weak and with better players I'm sure we'd score more as we create some good chances we just don't finish.
