My personal aims are to fill my profile up with as many trophies that I can win throughout my career. One day I would like to mange the team I support Hull City, but as this will be a long way off in my career and will only happen if I am successful enough.

To help me on my quest I wish to develop my skills I have therefore asked the board to help me

Assessment

The squad appears strong in all areas but lacks height. As I am a firm believer in have two tall central defenders this is something I may have to look into when I am assessing the squad, I also like to have a tall striker. For some reason the previous manager has sent one of the star defenders and existing club captain Victor Igbonefo out on loan until the end of the year - why oh why??

The club appears to be rich with its large transfer and wage budget as when reviewing the transfer market the players seem to be only worth less than 100k in value in this league. So I should be able to afford to buy whoever I want assuming that I can attract them to come to the club

Following a great pre-season where we won nine matches and drew two the form continued into the Super League as we managed to win our opening 5 games. Our main rivals for the title Persib had a mixed start winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 1.

I was impressed with the teams ability to handle the changes I was making throughout the squad during this period as results did not seem to be affected and the transfers I brought in slotted into the team well.

Towards the end of the season I believed we could have wrapped it up sooner however the squad seemed quite nervy and under pressure to do this. I may have to look at this mentality in the players I fetch into the club in the future to help this.

It is a fantastic achievement to win the league at the first time of asking and make Champions League qualification

I have managed to sign the majority of the players I went after, this is partly due to the chairmans fantastic faith in me and the 'war chest' he has provided for transfer and wages - this led me to believe that I can sign whoever I wished and they would come. One player who refused to come was Boaz a 29 year old Indonesian international 5 star striker who has scored lots of goals for his club. I would like to fetch him in as a replacement for 39 year old Gonzalez who wanted to leave as soon as I arrived and tried to (unsuccesfully) disrupt the squad. Hopefully now I have qualified for the Champions League I may be able to pursuade him to come.

NEXT SEASON

I have already asked the board to increase the clubs scouting range which they have agreed to. I will attempt to sign Boaz again, now that I am in the Champions League and get rid of the disruptive Gonzalez whose contract will have expired. I will attempt to ask the board if I can fetch in one or two more specialised coaches and look for top quality youngsters through my scouting network and attempt to fetch them into the club.

Even though they may not get a game at the moment an affiliate may need to be set up so they can be developed for the future.

The pressure will be on next season and I have already told the players that we can win the league again and defend our title. This will be tough though especially with the extra fixtures that will be introduced due to the Champions Cup and I hope this will not be a distraction from our bread and butter of the league

It was disapointing not to go further in the Asian Champions Cup with the amount of Indonesian International players I brought to the club.

I am not happy with the Indonesian International team manager as he has ignored my instructions for playing the players more than 45 minutes in friendlies on four occasions. I have complained in the media but he blatantly ignores my requests. I have even tried to withdraw the players from his squad but to no avail.

I also believe it is a remarkable achievement to have the amount of success I have when you bear in mind that during December the squad was down to bare bones due to International call ups this affected twelve players and four fixtures which two where won, 1 drawn and 1 lost.

I eventually managed to sign Boaz - however his performances over the season where not good enough. Apparantly according to my assistant manager he dislikes me which I believe is from me badgering him into joining the club. Hopefully next season he will start and improve. I managed to strengthen the squad by signinf alot of Indonesian Internationals from the main team. This should bode me well for the future.

NEXT SEASON

The first thing I need to make sure I do next seasons is to win the Confederation Cup and finish what the team has started this season.

Two players Rafael and Mitchel have been upset with the lack of first team football and I promised them that I will start to play them which I did. There contracts are up at the end of the season and even though I have played them in an attempt to keep the promise they are still unhappy about signing a new contract. We will have to wait and see.

As I now have a great squad I will look at the youth set up and try to fetch in better youth players for the future. I am at loggerheads with the board about this at the moment as I wish for them to develop the clubs youth and training facilities but they wish to buy the ground.

Again we cannot seem to progress to the Group stages of the Champions League despite having the best squad full on Indonesian Internationals. The club is stuck in 16th postions after 17 games and are under-performing. There are not too many points away though from safety.

The club is stuck in the relegation zone and is in the middle of an injury crisis. Some of the better players are out injured (4 players) or suspended (2 players) for my first few games in charge. As the transfer window does not open for another 3 months I will need to rely on the youth team to fill the positions in the team and hope these can do a job - although I do see it as been difficult.

The team are struggling and there is no wonder the previous manager was sacked as the media has predicted the team should finish around 9th. The team struggles in front of its own fans - only winning 2 games drawing 1 and losing 5. It also struggles to score goals I must rectify this as soon as possible if I am to steer the team away from relegation. This though will be difficult with the suspensions and injury crisis however only 4 points seperate us and 14th place - so I must believe it is possible.

I will start scouting for better players to join the club during the transfer window to help the cause and to strengthen the squad for if injuries and suspensions occur again.

For the time being I need to hope that the injuries clear up quickly, the youth players perform. the team gells quick and I am able to steer the club out and away from the relegation zone. Only then and next season can I start to think about the future

The team were struggling when I took over, they where fighting against relegation. Alot of key players were injured and struggling with form and with no transfer window until January I had to rely on some very young inexperienced players. Some of these players Butov and Bulavin (both aged 17) are ones to watch for the future. There key goals and performances helped in the battle against relegation early doors - however the team was still struggling overall and remained in the relegation zone.

The transfer window opened at the end of January and I brought nine new players who I targeted during the Russian football winter break, signing these players along with providing lots of friendly games after the winter break and before the second half of the season commenced brought some form to the team.

I targeted that we needed to gain another 16 points in the last 10 games - so our overall points total of 46 should be enough to survive based on previous seasons. It wasn't until the last 7 games that the team were out of the relegation zone and did not drop back into it, even though other teams around us were also winning

The team surpassed the points total I craved for in these 10 games and finished 6 points off the play offs.

Giva my top Brazilian forward wishes to leave the club as he wont sign a contract. He only scored 9 goals this season and even though I believe I could get the best of him my new strikeforce I brought in that saved us from relegation looks like they will be first choice next season. If he will not sign I will look at replacing him with someone new.

The new salary cap rules for the Russian First Division make this task rather difficult though as I can only pay wages of £36k per year.

Luckily other players that wished to move have decided to stay with the club and have signed new contracts.

With the players I have signed and the great run we had in those last 10 games leaving us 6 points off the playoffs I believe the team has a strong spirit and also that we could actually push for a play off place or even gain promotion next season.

I intend to get rid of the deadwood of players that were not performing and try to fetch in some high profile players to match my boards philosophy. This though could be difficult with the salary cap previously mentioned.

From saving the club from relegation the previous season to winning the league in my first full season in charge is a great achievement.

What was disapointing is that following winning the title with 4 matches to spare the team seemed to go on their holidays early winning 1 drawing 1 and losing 2 of the remaining matches.

I have managed to upgrade training facilities and youth facilities as the season progressed along with having the backing of the board to bring in further coaches and scouts.

The singning I made towards the end of last season helped along with the squad strengthening this season. This combined with the youth player like Butov and Bulavin bode well for the future.

The team did it, I will need to strengthen the team so that they can avoid relegation. Looking at the squad reports there a alot of players at the club who are decent Premier League players already or have the potential to be one. With a few astute signing I believe we could avoid relegation next season. My aim is to establish Fakel as a Premiership team. The league we have been promoted to are ranked 8th in Europe - if I am successful I may get some big clubs knocking on my door

It was always going to be difficult, however with the astute signing that was made the team finished in a very good position and were not in relegation trouble at all. The team struggled to score goals throughout the season and averaged just over a goal per game. This needs to be addressed if we are to become a force in the Premiership. Off the field struggles with a takeover saga did not help the club at critical stages of the season.

The chairman has backed me in every way possible to get me through the coaching badges and also given me a new contract upto June 2022.

 

During the season the Hull City job became available as Zidane was sacked after a poor run of results left them in the relegation zone in the Premier League. I had to apply for it as the club is the one that I support. Even though I was a 'Leading Candidate'  I did not make the shortlist for an interview.

Players were brought in that were young enough and good enough to compete in the Premier League this will bode the club well for the future. It was hoped that the players that were brought in would compliment and improve the squad of which the majority were decent premier league players.

CLUB TAKEOVER

 

The takeover saga seemed to drag on a age. Local Investor's Alexey Degtyarev original takeover fell through at the first attempt and was rejected by the board. The chairman  was still threatening to quit at the end of the season.

Long after the season had finished the takeover saga was still going on I was getting concerned about the strengthening of the squad and if I will be able to sign any players due to the embargo and not knowing how much money I would have next season. The saga was becoming tiresome and frustating

 

 

During this period I applied for the Clement Foot job who were a French team with a 'Tycoon' owner - I hoped that they would look at me favourable - however they just 'laughed off any interest'.

I also applied for the Swansea job who had just been relegated from the English Premiership - they were in alot of debt. I ended up being a 'Leading Candidate' for the role and attended an interview.

 

 

The takeover occurred and I was surprised in Fakels counter offer of how much the Local Investors was going to invest !!

 

- I decided to stay at Fakel.

 

NEXT SEASON

With the new transfer kitty and wage budget raising from £1.6million (transfer) and £8.5million (wage) to an alot larger amount I feel I can compete better in the transfer market financially. The difficulty will be attracting the right players to an unfashionable club. I need to sign some strikers who can score goals as the return last season was unacceptable. I will also try to recruit mainly Rusian players - however if needs must I will have to accept foreign ones. My aims for next season are to finish mid-table and that is what I have told the players that I aim to do. The takeover has slowed some of my recruitment down as I would have liked to have had the players in early to work with - but this will not be the case.

I was approached by CSKA Moscow who have a 3.5 star reputation and a great history of winning the Premiership and cups. Moscow though was struggling and I did not feel it would be the right step to do. Especially as my new chairman had backed me in the transfer market and broken all Fakel's spending records. I actually began to wonder how much money this local investor had.

 

However, I was getting frustrated for two reasons - one was that no real top class Russian players  wanted to join the club - Fakel was just not attractive enough and I am ambitious and want to win Championships  - the second was that during the monthly board reviews my chairman started to point out that player sales would be necessary to help the clubs finances. The investor didn't have as much as I thought - he ploughed it in at the beginning only to realise he was running out and needed sales to help the finances. 

The Zenit manager had handed his notice in to leave for Aston Villa -  an English Premiership club which laughed at my interest earlier in the season

 - could this be the opportunity I was looking for as Zenit are one of the big boys in Russian Football with a 4 star reputation, 3rd in the league and in european competition

 

 

 

I really hope that Fakel do well and continue in the Premiership after my departure for years to come

I have taken the majority of their backroom staff with me to Zenit and obviously will look at maybe fetching in a few of the players that I signed at Fakel to Zenit should the right circumstances arise and they are good enough for what I need to achieve at Zenit. Hopefully they will appoint a manager who can continue the journey I started with them since the Great Escape.

The club is doing well situated in 3rd  position after 18 games are 4 points off top spot. The club is also participating in the Euro Cup.

The club is in third place and has a strong chance of winning the title along with the Euro Cup. It is full on International players and is quite old with nine key players over the age of 30. These players will require replacing with younger quality ones as they will be leaving the club or retiring soon. The previous manager does not appear to have blooded many youngsters into the team in key areas as cover.

This is something I need to address. A priority will be strengthening the defence as not only is it old and slow there appears to be not enough quality cover.  I will scout some of my old players at Fakel and see if any will be good enough to strengthen my squad - however I don't believe they will be as from my initial assessment the gulf in class between the two clubs is huge (It would have taken me a long time - if ever to train my players to be as the good as the ones I inherited at Zenit). I will also scout Russia's International squad along with anywhere else I think relevant to fetch in some quality youngsters who I am hoping will emulate the success Zenit have had in the past. Otherwise at a huge club like this my job could be on the line as the board will want success

When I took over on 31st January 2016 the team was 3rd in the Premiership and 4 points from the top of the league. We managed to close that gap and finished 2nd place equal on points with Spartak Moscow.  Zenit though had a higher goal difference which led me to believe that we had won it. After approaching the FA - they told me it wasn't English Football it was Russian. The league is sorted out by the number of wins first before goal difference and as Spartak had won 1 more game that technically gave them the title. Watch out Spartak though we are coming for you next season. 

The club managed to qualify for the Champions Cup so I will need to strengthen the team to enable it to compete in this competition even though the squad is fairly strong it is ageing and quality younger fresh blood will be needed to blood into the team.

After a strong start and we were languishing in 3rd place with 3 games to go - the top three positions where very tight and one slip up could have cost either team to lose. However we rose to the challenge and rose up to the top of the league in the last 3 games. I don't know what would have happened to my job if we didn't. We had a very difficult Champions League group and with the team getting beat each week this seriously affected morale - which affected the league form. Players will need to be brought in if we have a cat in hells chance of doing anything in this competition and the recruitment will start immediately. However this will be a slow process as alot of players may not wish to come to the club as there are alot of better teams out there playing in the same competition. It was also disapointing to lose to my former club in the Russian Cup competition. A rivalry is beginning to form between myself and the manager who replaced me there.

A few of the older players are starting to retire. I intend to sign the players I brought in on loan as I feel these will help strengthen the squad and are young enough for me to develop. Further players will need to be signed to strengthen the squad if we are to compete better in the Champions League - this though will depend on two things - my remaining transfer budget and if the player is interested in joining us. A few bigger teams have started 'sniffing' around my better players and I hope that I can keep hold of them

I'm not sure if this deal will help the club financially or not and provide extra transfer funds. The squad is strong enough in the domestic competitions, however it was disapointing to get knocked out of the Russian cup early on in the competition. The squad needs strengthening to do better in the Champions League. Halfway through the season this started to occur as players with a 'worldwide' reputation where brought to the club. To make a big impact though this must continue, it will though be difficult due to squad restriction rules and Russian players not been as good

As stated above I have started to bring in players with a worldwide reputation to improve the team and make us more competative in the Champions League. The pool of Russian players is not good enough. I will need to increase my scouting knowledge and fetch back to Russia any national players that can improve the team, this will help with the competition squad restrictions. Hopefully the purchase of the stadium will help the club finances long term as they wont have to pay out for any rent payments. Next season I will look to fetch in more 'worldwide' reputation players to strengthen the team and will probably look at bringing into the squad a few younger players particularly ones I have had out on loan as I believe that they can cut it in the league. The 'worlwide' players I intend to mainly use for the champions league so when there is a fixture congestion I will look at my other players first and depending upon fitness, form etc. I will also look at asking the board to improve the training and youth set up at the club as we have alot of good coaches and I believe that we need to take advantage of them better. This though will probably depend upon the financial state of the club as the stadium was purchased this season and I spent quite a bit of money in the transfer market. I am looking at making a return on this as the board has backed me to the hilt.

The team did fantastically well to only drop 2 points in the league and are currently unbeaten for over 40 games. We did better in the Champions League getting through to the quarter finals and putting up a good fight against a strong Real Madrid side. I am beginning to believe due to the lack of Russian talent and the squad restriction rules we may never be strong enough to compete in this competition or be able to build a squad capable of beating the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona.

Better players were brought in but not alot of players were let go a total of 36 players was used thoughout the season including youth players I have started to bleed into the team. This will serve the team well for the future.

I have now won everything in Russian Football and have a squad capable of walking the league each season. I will not invest much money as the past two seasons on transfers but will look at bringing in younger players for the future and developing them - if I need to pay a fee for some of the better youngsters in Russia then I will. I am negotiating with the board to improve the training and youth facilities to help me achieve this. My issue is with the European Football as Russia does not seem to produce many quality players to compete in the Champions League / Europa League and I have to rely upon foreign players. The Rules and Regulations of the league in Russia where I am only allowed 6 foreign players in the first team is really starting to hinder the European campaigns as the Russian players are not good enough. I have one year left on my contract and will see what it brings.

The squad is quite old in certain areas. I will look to hire some further scouts and coaches fetching more from the Zenit back room team if they will join me. I will look to scout youngsters and try to build a better under 18 and 21 team so that I have quality coming through. I will look at scouting areas we are weak in and also see if I can attract Morata and some other worldclass players from Zenit to Hull.

It was a fight all the way to the end in the PremierLeague - however the team did not seem to have the stamina and fell short in the latter half of the season. Losing the title by 2 points. I noticed the defence seemed to concede alot easier from faster opposition players. Next season I will need to address this to make us stronger. We still managed to win 2 minor trophies though in the Community Shield and Carling One Cup. Further investment will be needed in key areas to make us a force to be recognised with and not a one season wonder. It is also encouraging that over the last two seasons the team has reached the semi final of the Champions League, were nearly there hopefully of having a good squad that can compete well in this competition and hopefully eventually win it

This season I have recruited more staff especially to coach the youth teams who I see as key for the future of the club. A few of the young players that I scouted when I took over the club are developing well and are brought into the squad for the cup games to aid there development. I already have signed some good quality young players who have wonderkid status. So I survived a takeover, the new board had there own manager lined up and it took a while for them to be convinced by me. I think if I don't achieve big things next season - 'the sack' could be looming - 2nd place may not be enough for the new board.  I now have the backroom team in place to really push the young players that I have signed for the future and alot more could start and come through the replace any older / retiring players. As mentioned above though I intend to spend and spend big I will with the key area of strenthening the defence with quicker players. The club has alot of good young talent which I will continue to fetch through the ranks. These players have been bought cheaply and can be sold for huge profits. This may be needed as the clubs finances are looking dire. I will look to expand the stadium with the board as the capacity is too small for the success we are having and future successes I intend to bring

I have added speed to the back line with the signing of Sanchez as I believed that last season alot of quicker strikers broke through our defence. He has become a rock and has helped win the league . Next season I will look at improving the strikers as even though I have some good ones and excellent Youth prospects, they do not feature in the top goalscoring charts - alot of our goals are spread throughout the team. With keeping this team together and improving by fetching in strikers who can score more goals hopefully we can remain as champions next season and also gain the ultimate prize of winning the Champions League.

NEXT SEASON

I will be looking at expansion of the stadium by the board  - this though may be hindered by the clubs finances and what we need to do in the transfer market. I aim to sign a couple of strikers who hopefully will score more than 20 league goals a season and rocket up the goalscoring chart. Steve Thomas from Liverpool is a striker I have tried to sign for a few seasons but even though he wished to come the Liverpool have kept rejecting my bids, the player has never though put in a transfer request no matter how much I pestered. He is also Liverpools captain and would be a good captain for us. I will also keep on scouting and looking for woderkids and good potential young players to fetch through the ranks at the club.
