Dictis
Hey all, Have read the good stuff on here and SISportscentre, but wanted to get a view on the following strategy around the midfield two. Currently have one midfield sitter, and one runner as you can see: Problem is my CMs are super low scoring they will do well to score over 7.0 (AvRT). Any thoughts on how to improve this? Could this be a result of them being Jack of all trades, masters of none? They're relatively accurate in terms of passing, make a few INTs and a couple of tackles, they rarely score. Their touches are between 40 and 50 typically (which feels low). Clearly a point of note is that the play makers reside on the left of the tactic, but am also thinking about swapping the CMs to put DLP on the right of the two. If I do that I'll also change the duties of the FBs so that Walker is now more attacking. Any thoughts appreciated!
shakey.bridge
It is a much debated subject balancing the midfield pair in a 4231, I read somewhere that it is better if they are both on the same mentality so they are flat, which keeps them solid and compact protecting the Centre Backs and keeping things simple allowing your creative 3 behind the striker to do their stuff, I have noticed that if 1 is on support and 1 on defend, the defending one occasionally gets pulled across to cover the supporting one leaving that area exposed, there are a lot of posts on this subject. PhroX
Don't get too wrapped up in having those player get good ratings. If, when you're watching the match, they seem to do what you want them to, and the team performs well as a whole, then the fact that they are individually not performing fantastically according to how the game rates things isn't really a problem. At first glance, the setup looks pretty solid.
Dictis
Thanks PhroX and shakeybridge, I was thinking they were more water carriers to be fair. Was hoping that it wouldn't affect the players development. Worth switching the DLP to the right slot do you think?
themightyyak
The role selection you have there has proven the best balance for me in the past. The CM(s) is quite conservative so you shouldn't lose shape and he proves quite adept at picking his opportunities to get forward when it's on. jeid2000
It's usually a good idea to set the more defensive of the two midfielders on the side of the attacking full back so he can cover when the FB goes forward. Might actually be worth switching those full backs to wing backs to offer more width as both your wingers are cutting inside.
