player's determination and tutoring

Recommended Posts

It's annoying to me that a player's determination will decrease to match whatever their tutor's is. How realistic is that really? You'd think that a promising young talent would be able to learn what's valuable from their tutor while maintaining their personal ambition/drive.

For example if I had a young striker being tutored by Dimitar Berbatov (just an example as I'm guessing he was low determination) why wouldn't the player be able to learn selectively from him? In real life surely the player would pay attention to his finishing, movement, and technical abilities, but would have the understanding that for all Berbatov's quality he was also somewhat of a lazier player and would stay solid with his own ambitions?

But tutoring doesn't only affect mental attributes, or does it?

No, you misunderstood what I was saying. Tutoring affects PERSONALITY - all the attributes that make up a player's personality. They're all hidden except for Determination. That's why Determination changes as well.

Fair enough, I'm just not sure I agree that's how it should be. I suppose if the tutor is acting as a "big brother" type. I always took it as the tutor taking the player under his wing more as just a football teacher. Helping the player gain some knowledge in their ability at their position.

Although I do see where if a player is under 18 they'll naturally take some of their tutor's personality along with the footballing acumen.

The whole concept of tutoring as it is currently in FM, isn't all that realistic. Players don't do these 'play dates' IRL.

It'll happen naturally when a younger person looks up to an experienced one etc.

Haha so in FM when a tutor and player get together they're doing social things behind the scenes? Going out for a nice ice cream or a couple of pints?

You'll have to ask them. ;)

But these arranged sessions do not happen. If they do (I'm sure there are examples :D) it's not very often. These things are more natural than arranged.
