Dynamic rivalries?

Recommended Posts

I havent encountered any but i havent getting under anyones skin too much i think

The big new feature is club rivalries. You seem to be talking about manager rivalries which have been dynamic for a long time.

And no, I haven't experienced any of the former yet...

As Arsenal, four seasons in I've put City out of the Champion's League at the knockout stage three times, they have put me out of domestic cups twice, but no rivalry.

It's probably there but not visible yet. They are only listed once they reach a certain level. I think City is already a low-level rival for Liverpool, if it grows a bit it becomes visible.

As Rangers I've now got Inverness as a competitive rival, had no idea that they were there until this thread prompted me to check. Nice addition, they've never really been close to taking the title from me though (think they did finish 2nd last year but like 16 points behind) so it seems to have happened rather easily.

Can already established rivalries disappear? In the example above with Liverpool and Manchester City, say for whatever reason Manchester City are relegated and the two teams hardly play each other any more. Will that rivalry disappear or will it stay there ready for it to be reignited.

Hey andychar,

It's quite unlikely that the rivalry will disappear.

Cheers,

Seb.

As I posted earlier

As Liverpool, Man City became fierce rivals by fourth season.

But just now I visited my team's profile page and Man City are nowhere to be seen. So from fierce competitive rivals they were gone in 2 seasons. Is this a bug?

These rivalries are generated (/increased) through close competition finishes. For example, constantly fighting with a team for the title or relegation.

Hope that helps.

Seb.

Does proximity play a role at all? For example, say two clubs are from the same city but are not currently rivals - would how close they are to each other help improve the chances that they will become rivals, or is distance between the clubs irrelevant when it comes to dynamic rivalries?

Do rivalries never disappear? What happens over a 200 year holiday game then, will every Premier League team be rivals with everyone else? :D

Isn't it kind of unrealistic that two clubs from the same city wouldn't already be rivals IRL?

Depends on the city. Can't see Chelsea fans caring too much about Dag&Red or Barnet even if the latter may dislike them. Same with Liverpool and Prescot Cables or Man United and Stockport. If they're so far away from each other in terms of divisions (then again if Chelski keep this up, they may be playing Barnet soon :p )then their will be little to no rivalry there.

Two clubs in the same league, probably. Not at different levels though, I would suggest.

Yes, of course. Still, I would think it should be easier for Chelsea or Arsenal to build up a rivalry with, say, Dagenham and Redbridge (if they ever got to the PL) than with a club from the north of England...

Nope they won't. You'd need to be competing with them regularly for titles/relegation.
