Problems With MLS

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I generally put in a few years with Vancouver in the MLS in the vain hopes of making Canada somewhat competitive in the World Cup.

There are a few issues with developing players that I've noticed, and one giant problem with the domestic transfer market.

#1 - And by far the most important, is the 500 k cap on allocation spending. This means that any promising footballer within the league will automatically become unobtainable, for all intents and purposes. In my current save, I have around 7 million in "allocation spending" which I'll likely never fully use. In turn, this means you no longer try to develop domestic players, and instead turn to regens from Africa and Central America.

#2 - A traditional problem is that with only one league being playable, a player's potential is listed as "potential MLS ___________" That's all well and good, but a 100 PA player can have the same note as a 170 PA player. It might be helpful to have some sort of scaling with the comments within the league/club, or compare the player's potential to some of the bigger European leagues.

#3 - How players are rated. I realize that if the core of your team improves significantly, you will get a more accurate read of your young players, but in order to get to a position where 115 PA players are no longer five star players, you're almost required to have a third party scouting program. Having some sort of ability to scale the comparison without relying on a couple of datamined wunderkinds would be great.

# 4 - MLS games lose out on so much functionality built into the game. It would be nice to be able to break from reality and compete in global tournaments aside from the two weeks Club World Cup. Immersion breaking, but fun.

There's a lot to like about the game, as always, but I do find it all too easy to get stuck in a rut with MLS. Also, broader intake from successful academies is fantastic, for what it's worth.
