swooperproop
They did well but ultimately were outmuscled! Croatia haven't been too good really, making only the 3rd round each time, but they have had some tough games:2016 - 3rd round (2-2p v Nigeria) 2017 - 3rd round (1-2 v Colombia) 2018 - 3rd round (0-1e v France) They also lost their World Cup Qualifying playoff to Switzerland, so won't be travelling to Russia in the summer of 2018. Haha, nicely done Ouch, shame for Croatia Now I know who to boost if I ever get a chance to! Did the Czech win?
Dave.
2018 WORLD KNOCKOUT CUP - Final Not really much to say here. France were absolutely sublime, blowing Czech Republic off the park and really should have scored a hatful. In the end though, one was enough to win their first World Knockout Cup title, and stands them in good stead for the summer's World Cup.

Dave.
Right - it's World Cup year - so there's a rather obvious challenge - predict the winner! There's a bigger reward on offer for this one to change the fortunes of chosen nations, so good luck. The qualified nations are as follows: Africa Asia Europe North America South America Ghana Saudi Arabia Portugal Spain Switzerland USA Chile Morocco Iraq England Ukraine Poland Canada Colombia Algeria Australia Wales Germany Serbia Mexico Brazil DR Congo South Korea France Netherlands Russia (hosts) Argentina Ivory Coast Japan Belgium N. Ireland Uruguay

Dave.
2018 WORLD CUP The hosts didn't have a brilliant World Cup; going out at the group stage with DR Congo taking second place in Group A at their expense. Group B was always an open one for second spot, and it was Wales who took it brilliantly - what a few years they've had so far. Group C was probably the most difficult there's ever been at a World Cup - a proper group of death. Germany and Portugal (who always seem to get the hard games) went through at the expense of history's greatest footballing nation Brazil. in Group D, three decent sides were all tied on 6 points, and although England and Switzerland survived by the skin of their teeth, Mexico were not so lucky. Groups E and F were a little more clear-cut, and USA won a tough-looking Group G, knocking possible knockout-stage banana skins Chile and Ivory Coast out along the way. Finally, in Group H, the two expected sides did make it through, although Iraq pushed Colombia close. The knockout stages threw a few shocks. Ukraine knocked out Spain, while Uruguay were undone by African surprise package DR Congo. Belgium thrashed Ghana and USA with plenty of goals scored by the tournament's runaway top scorer Romelu Lukaku (10) but were eventually beaten by England. Belgium beat Portugal to third place, and England won the match that mattered most against Argentina. A close range finish midway through the first half from James Milner proved enough for England to win a tightly contested game for their second World Cup title. Dave.
I'll go with England. What could possibly go wrong? What indeed? England (still a little too highly rated by FM I reckon) win their second major honours in 3 years; the big one this time. And the big one for levigu too reward wise: THREE superstars (one 150 CA/200 PA and two "lesser stars" at 100 CA/180 PA), a 500 rep "switch" between any two nations, and a +25 youth rating. These can be split between any nations in any way you like; so in theory you could give boosts to five different countries (and a rep reduction to a sixth - or indeed one of the first five). Dave. England do need to be cut back a little, so take 500 rep from them - and give it to Georgia. Let's have a Sammarinese superstar LW at San Marino Calcio. For the two lesser players, a Georgian CB at Dila Gori, and a North Korean infiltrator AM at FC Seoul. Finally, it would be nice to see a bit more Andorran youth talent in the world. Dave.
PLAYERS Incredible, Al-Motawa hasn't added to his number of caps having retired with the 200 target in reach! Cech, Sneijder and Iraqi talisman Akram make the list, all with time to progress upwards on it.Plenty of new faces on this list. Not many goals for Messi and Suarez by their standards, but they still climb upwards. Rooney, Aguero, Hernandez, and somewhat surprisingly, Dennis Oliech - Kenya's primary hitman - are the new entrants.Lionel Messi stays perfect, and the rest stay pretty much as they were. The only changes see Suarez move up a couple of spots after an improved year, and a peaked Isco take the spot away from a slightly waned Sergio Aguero. As we can see, Spain's back line looks assured the next couple of decades! Ventura and Carr are the highest CA players on our top 10 list, and Portugal and USA have clearly recognised that with a decent number of international caps each already. Elsewhere, England now have two players on the list.Kvarthskhava has improved significantly again, and has added to his caps and goals for Georgia as he prepares for his transfer in the summer. Olivar has earned a dozen caps now for the Philippines, but no longer has a club contract (he wanted to move to a bigger club, but there was no interest in him). It will be interesting to see how long it takes until he is snapped up; and who takes the plunge. Elsewhere, there are now three more potential stars to keep an eye on. sherwinriga
Maybe Olivar will move to college first, so that he will play for the youth team soon. Otherwise, he will be playing for difference. I hope the Philippines is heading to the 2019 Asian Cup and that's where a major vast of Asian teams are competing for the first time.
Dave.
you say Isco took the spot, but list Aguero, fyi Oops - thanks for spotting that! Fixed. Maybe Olivar will move to college first, so that he will play for the youth team soon. Otherwise, he will be playing for difference. I hope the Philippines is heading to the 2019 Asian Cup and that's where a major vast of Asian teams are competing for the first time. With such high ability/potential it'd be a massive shock if he wasn't picked up quickly, especially seeing as he's now first choice for his national side. Unfortunately, the Philippines did not qualify for the Asian Cup, although they did reach the final of the AFF Championship, losing to Thailand - and of course have their WKC campaign kicking off shortly. Dave.
Challenge time: Can you correctly name the last nation standing from each continent? Whoever gets most right will earn the right to create the customary youth superstar, and to kick you off, I'll give you two of the six continent's champions: South Korea (Asia) - not that it helps much, being the only Asian team in the last 32 - and New Zealand (Oceania) - losing 2-0 in Round 2 (equal to New Caledonia, but New Zealand won 2-0 in Round 1 and New Caledonia only 1-0, so NZ pip it). The four continents and their potential last teams standing are as follows: Africa Europe North America South America Tunisia Croatia USA Brazil Gabon Portugal El Salvador Chile Cameroon Germany Colombia Benin Italy Argentina South Africa Israel Uruguay Mali Wales Sudan Georgia Ghana England Belgium Sweden Netherlands Bulgaria Serbia Switzerland Albania Cyprus And the draw for the fourth round:

Thanks very much Also, just a heads-up - you picked the exact same four sides as jtiessen, who got in there first. Would you like to change one/more than one? Ghana, Georgia, United States and Brazil. One of these may become champions soon. You'd think Brazil are in with a shout (for their second title)... Or the mighty Georgia! I'll run the latter stages and post updates later this afternoon I should think, so plenty of time left for people to enter/amend their answers if they have the time to!
