ANSTY SPORTS & SOCIAL FOOTBALL CLUB

Mid Sussex Football League Division One

Ansty is a small village located between the towns of Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill. The football club was formed in 2002 after the previous club, Ansty Rangers, merged with Haywards Heath based club St. Francis to form St. Francis Rangers who now play in the Southern Combination League Premier Division. Ansty Sports & Social play in the Mid Sussex League Division One, level 14 in the English football pyramid.

It is my mission to take this club as high as I can, winning various unknown league titles and cups along the way.

Pre-Season 2015:

It was a mixed set of results in the friendlies but it got the team fit and ready for the start of the season. Paul Jones, a signing from Mid Sussex Division Seven team Burgess Hill Athletic scored a few goals and looks to be a good piece of business for the club, he's straight into the starting line up.

Transfers August 2015:

Just 4 players joined us from other Mid Sussex League clubs, the squad is about the right size for what we need this season. The league fixtures are about to start, we need a good start if we are to be promoted this season, come on Ansty!

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2015

We started the season well but we soon found life tough. We should've scored more against Ardingly but it was a good win, Felbridge was another easy game as well as Sompting B. Then it started to go wrong. Nutley were on the backfoot most of the game and scored a equaliser late in the game. Alliance dominated us and we deserved to lose and it was the same story against Montpelier Villa II. Against Sporting Elite we were 3-1 up but let the lead slip but we made up for it with another win over Felbridge.

OCTOBER 2015

Danish striker Lasse Weber signed from Croydon FC and scored 2 goals on his debut in the cup win against Rogate, however, he sustained an injury that would see him out for months so I made the hard decision to release him from the club. In the league fixtures we struggled and only picked up 1 point out of a possible 6, we need to improve otherwise we'll miss ut on the promotion spots/ We dominated the game against Copthorne but could only find the next once however we game Championship side Cuckfield Town a run for their money as they beat us on penalties.

Despite the shaky start to the season I was hopeful we could start getting the wins under our belt. Training on a Wednesday night on a 3G pitch probably didn't help us as most of the pitches we play on have divots everywhere!

The club was getting some recognition however as 2 of our pre-season acquisitions were eligible to play for Montserrat, a big footballing nation everyone knows of course! Marlon Lee, signed from Plumpton Athletic, was giving a interview to a reporter from the magazine Four Four Two, he was saying how much he enjoyed playing football at Ansty and how I had been pushing him to train harder to try and get him playing higher in the pyramid. It was all positive attention for a Club of our size, to be known as a club at Level 14 to have international players hadn't been heard of and maybe I'll keep my eye out for other Montserrat players in the area if it helps the club.

Our next game would see us host AFC Uckfield III in the league, if we were to make it up to the top 2 we would need to start winning and soon. We needed some new players in the squad, I asked Marlon Lee if he knew anyone who would be willing to join us, he gave me one name, Elvis Christian, a 25 year old who was playing in the West Sussex League with Horsham Olympic. We approached the club who let us talk to him, it wasn't a long meeting, the player seemed really enthusiastic to join us so we agreed straight away. He was the big striker we had been missing and he would go straight into the squad for the Uckfield game. Some bad news was to follow however when top scorer Lloyd Palmer agreed to join Essex Olympian side May & Baker Eastbrook. Work commitments meant he would have to relocate to London and felt that playing for a nearby team would be easier for him, I can't complain as we aren't giving him a wage.

Ansty Sports 2-0 AFC Uckfield III

@Ansty Recreation Ground, att: 98

Ansty Sports produced a fine display with a 2-0 win over a high flying Uckfield side. Recent signing Elvis Christian opened the scoring with just 7 minutes on the clock with a neat finish. Scott Calder, being watched by several scouts, doubled the lead just before half time.

The visitors started the second half brightly and it was thanks to Adam Archer in the Sports goal who stopped them from scoring. Ansty should have made the game safe but couldn't find a way past the opposition keeper. The win pushes Ansty up to 7th position in the league standings with a good chance now of gaining a top 2 place.

END OF SEASON REVIEW 2015/16

It was a new experience for me as a manager, promotion was a must.

League Table

League Positions Graph

Really happy with a league title although it was close for the top 2 places/

Sussex Intermediate Cup - It was a good run until West Sussex League side Lodsworth put us out.

Mid Sussex Senior Cup - Championship side Cuckfield Town got us on penalties but we pushed them all the way.

Mowatt Challenge Cup - A trophy to go in our cabinet!

Squad - It was hard to keep a lot of the squad at the club but the players we had did well.

Transfers - Not many changes, will be the same again next season.

Finances - Healthy, will look at improving the Youth set up.
