jujigatame
I'm noticing that clicking "retain possession" no longer changes the tempo bar, and now just changes the passing length bar. Does it actually effect tempo or not? If not, what does "retain possession" do differently from just clicking "shorter" on the passing length bar? jujigatame
Ah sorry, now I'm noticing it also has some weird interactions with closing down. When closing down is increased, retain possession stops affecting tempo. When it's left at "sometimes" then retain possession shortens the tempo bar. Are all these graphical representations accurate? I recall Cleon saying closing down doesn't actually affect the defensive line even though the GUI makes it look like it does.
HUNT3R
Retain Possession does lower the tempo. It also shortens passing and reduces through balls/passes into space. Adjusting the D-Line doesn't affect closing down and Cleon, as always, would be right that it's incorrectly making you think that it does.

Adjusting the D-line doesn't affect closing down, but I think changing the closing down setting does affect the D-line.
andrewsgn
Adjusting the D-line doesn't affect closing down, but I think changing the closing down setting does affect the D-line. According to the Lines and Diamonds guide it's the opposite. Changing the d-line does affect closing down but changing closing down does not affect the d-line. Cleon
It's an interface bug and is on the fix list. It doesn't change d-line despite the visual saying different.
jujigatame
I'm really confused about the relationship between closing down, tempo, and retain possession now. When I have retain possession clicked, going to "close down more" increases my tempo, but then going to "close down much more" decreases tempo to the former lower level. When I do not have retain possession ticked, closing down seems to have no effect on tempo at all! Is this accurate, or a bug?
HUNT3R
Sounds like it is also an interface bug
davehanson
So, at the moment then, the average player will have no idea what is going to happen if we change things in the team instructions then?
Cleon
So, at the moment then, the average player will have no idea what is going to happen if we change things in the team instructions then? No need to be dramatic. It's one tiny glitch for this setting only and is on the fix list already. The rest of the instructions are fine.
davehanson
So, the post at number 7 isn't correct then, or isn't a bug?
Cleon
It's a result of the same visual bug I mentioned in my post because it's the same setting involved.
davehanson
But, it is a different 'option' that is creating another small issue? Just to be clear, I am not bad-mouthing the game (I am loving it), but these little things do confuse people and there do seem quite a few of these little things in the interface that don't seem to be quite right. No it's the exact same issue, not a different one. It's because in FM14 they were all linked but was changed last year. Then for some reason the visuals this year is wrong. There was bound to be some teething problems this year though with it being the first time it's been used. Even if it was 100% correct it still wouldn't be ideal because it doesn't show enough imo. Although saying that, it's a thousand times better than what people had to deal with last year.
jujigatame
Ok, so closing down definitively does NOT affect tempo?
HUNT3R
Definitely not.
