Youth Contracts

Recommended Posts

I have my first potential world class youth player in my ranks, and Man City have offered a contract when his youth contract has 18 months to run, and is six months before he turns 17. Is this allowed? Obviously it is, but what is the ruling? That any youth player can be poached?

And if I signed him up to a contract where he'd still be on a youth contract till he reached 17, would they still be able to have come in with a bid?

ugh, that is annoying. I made sure my other talented youths were signed up immediately. In fact in the past Sheff Utd poached a youth teamer and I knew nothing about it.

Maybe SI should give a heads up warning in the news up dates as I'm pretty sure a lot of us players wont be familiar with contract law!

If I get another chance to offer a contract (the agent hates me as I don't do agent fees), it looks like he's going to have to become one of the highest paid at the club and land a massive half million loyalty bonus. But if not, I can always loan him back.

He's gone. Man City for £850k. Tried to sign him back even for £10m, but they want £72m. Just wonderful. I'll loan him back in the summer, that's when he's 17, but it just makes it all so frustrating. Though I've been playing the game since 00/01, its the first time I've ever had Torquay get to this stage where the youth set up produces this kind of talent. Feel a bit of an idiot.

Try managing at an amateur club, where the only contract you can offer is "amateur" and pro and semi-pro teams waltz in and poach away your entire team. I mean, sure, everyone wants a paycheck, but when your transfer history every year is a list of 35 players all listed as "free transfer - out", it makes it hard to build a team.
