Re Closed: Losing patience with match/engine/ tactics and its effectiveness

Guys,

I think that you were a bit to harsh and missed the point. Sometimes I have a feeling that some of you don't want to see the point.

I am not a very good manager, I struggle a lot with my teams. I am not able to win playing average BPL team Champions League the second season playing possession tactics and loose only 5 games in 2 seasons (no offence but to me it looks like sort of cheating). I made mistakes with my players roles and duties etc. (I am big fan of 4-5-1 tactic, that to me seems to be very flexible, with no true success to be honest) and I know it is mostly because of my tactic. Anyway there are a lot of thinks that I do not understand. And I mean it, I really don't understand. And I have no idea how to deal with them. I would like to list some of them:

1. Crossing. Why my players always wait for their marker before they even attempt to cross the ball? My other players are often not marked in the box but wing player always waits for something. Do you know for what? The ball is lost. The funny thing is that in the same tactic the same players are very willing to "switch the ball to the opposite flank" to the very well marked player and that pass looks like regular crossing (I see that looks like is the keyword here). Other issue here is that FB(s) has cross from deep instruction but they tend to rich the byline to attempt to cross.

2. Crossing cont. Opposite players are able to cross the ball even when they are marked by 2 my players (not very often though).

3. Ball winning. I like players with high acceleration, pace, work rate, determination etc. However very often I see that my players just casually jog towards the ball. In the same time I see opposite TGV train running in direction of the same ball. Do I understand correct that opposite players with all important attributes much lower that my players have are suddenly determined so much that they are much faster then my players?

4. Ball winning cont. Very often it does not matter if I ask my players to close down much more, tackle harder etc. because What I see is just a bunch of rabbits "jumping" some distance from opposite players doing nothing really. If by chance my player tries to tackle there is always foul. Opposite players have no problems with ball winning, they just have to be close to my players.

5. Passing (comment here, I always watch full matches because I enjoy them). Many of you, especially gurus advice to watch full matches and see what my players do and look for patterns. So ok, I see the pattern, all team has short passing, GK short distribution to CB or FB. The pattern is for example: GK pass the ball to FB, FB in very safe situation (short options available) pass the long cross (mainly) ball to my forward players (no, the player is not TM or any other like that) very often pretty isolated and marked. I tend to be patient and in certain game I count 17 "actions" like that.

6. Passing cont (again cont.). Through balls. Ok, I understand that those passes might miss, I might lose ball etc. I can deal with it and I could understand it. What is wrong is that I cannot see such passes very often whatever TI or PI I select. In the best case it is a back pass or pass to the wing (if so no crosses, player marked and the ball is lost).

7. Tactic. As I mentioned I would like to play 4-5-1 and I was not succeed. I tried different approaches during one season (in fact I won Norwegian premier division that time). One of different tactics was a kind of 4-4-1-1. During the season the tactic was a crap (no possession, no shots, On target - just joke, we were like puppies or children lost in the fog) . Anyway I kept it in one of my slots, i do not know why. The next season, with the same players (no cash) I tried the same tactic in preseason (why not?) and it was great! Yeap, I know, some of my players got +1 in some attributes so out of the sudden tactic tick. But I did not lose a single game that season! Isn't it strange?

8. Opposite GK. Hmm... this is a very long story... I really do not know how opposite GK standing close to left goalpost is able to handle the ball trying to clean the spidersweb in the right top corner of his goal if the shot is from 2-3 meters from the goal! Superman must be the pussie!

There is one thing I have no concerns. It is defending (apart from 7). I concede very little goals and to be honest I do not know whether this is because of my tactics or my players...

I know, that if I would get any replies I would read that you do not know my tactic, my players, that successful tactic is because of right players (sorry, I DO NOT BUY IT, If something is good for very i.e.. mediocre Swansea it should be good to certain extend to the other clubs, especially if I read that system is important, not players). The truth is that I very like the game. Surprisingly to me I win matches often due to an own goal, penalty or other odd goals.

To be honest I just simply cannot understand how things like that may happen and I do not know if this is ME or simply my mistakes...

P.S. Does anyone of you knows why I was banned after my first post here just because somebody didn't like my alias that was "vinnie"?

I assume you are referring to this thread, where you were posting under the name "iownyou"? http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/450471-Losing-patience-with-match-engine-tactics-and-its-effectiveness

You have to provide context and detail.

Context - above you may well be describing things that you can see happening in your game, but we can't see it. There could be a million different reasons why what you are seeing is happening. Only you can see what actually is, which is why you need to provide specific examples (i.e., context). Generalising about issues is not providing "context". For example, read your point 4 above. "If by chance my player tries to tackle there is always foul." That is a generalisation that does nothing to help us. Your players do not "always" foul when they make a tackle. However, providing specific examples of where you think fouls are being made when you don't think they should have been will be providing context. Don't generalise, it doesn't help.

Detail - we don't know what tactical system you are using. You have to provide this otherwise how can we help? In that previous thread you didn't provide any of that detail apart from a few formations with player roles and duties. It was pointless asking you to provide the extra information as you had linked 5? 6? different formations. Pick one style (two at the most), stick to it and provide full detail of that one (or two) if you have specific problems. If you keep changing, how are we supposed to keep up?

Finally, if you have been banned before you need to talk to a mod about the reasons. Why would the mods tell us?
