Quality of regen goalkeepers

Hey Torminator.

You may be looking for a general reply rather than one from myself, but hopefully I can help.

We actually took a look at this recently and could find no evidence suggesting that the quality of newgen goalkeepers was less than that of the original DB. Obviously there will be variances between each intake and each save, but generally the quality of 'keeper in a long term save is maintained. There are obviously going to be less quality GKs than there are, for example, quality strikers, as should be the case when comparing with the original DB.

It is also important to note that goalkeepers often develop later than outfield players.

Cheers,

Seb.

What year are you in? I'm in 2018 and there's already 3 or 4 decent ones for their age. I snapped one up from BSC Young Boys

Sociedad and Valencia have decent ones looking through the teams, probably a load more from teams like Young Boys who will end up at top clubs in time

The problem with regen goalies is that it can be difficult to develop them. In my FM15 save my second keeper at Reading was an English regen with great potential and I was playing him as much as I dared.

When I moved on to QPR, the AI wanted £40m+ for him - and he played one game in three years.

I just ran a watcher sim to mid-2020 on the weekend. Pretty big database (100K players to start) and a decent amount of leagues. Loads of quality regens and (by memory) more than a few GKs.

A dynamic I've noticed - and not just with regens - is players staying in their home leagues longer than one might expect. I've seen highly promising young players (of obvious quality, in most cases) staying in leagues like Croatia, Serbia, Ecuador, etc, for a few years. Some quality regens can happen in relatively obscure nations so if you aren't using a scouting tool, have good scouts going everywhere. They can still miss players, though. Especially if they aren't a "Wonderkid" style prospect - they might have PA in the 170+ range, but they didn't have a fantastic CA to start with, they might not be an 18 or 19 year old with 120 or 130 CA. They might be at 90 CA and not really look like an outstanding prospect. With playing time, good facilities, good coaching, and the right personality, that player can still become a really outstanding player in a few years.
