Is this YouTube guy a legend or magician?

I ve been looking at YouTube for some decent FM videos. And I noticed this guy, FootyManager

If you look at his tactics, it was just ridiculous. It has freaking 10+ TIs. Roles and duties maybe ok, I am not so good at tactics so dont want to judge these. Apparently he was not a great tactician, since he set FB as auto because "You see Debuchy has the highest rating when the duty is auto..."

When I try to fit this tactic into any tactical framework of Cleons/wwfans/Rashidis, I think this is just one of those newbie tactics. But guess what, he won the league with D8 L2 in the first season. Major transfers were Gabbiandini (who he usesd as a CF(s)) and Kondogbia as a BWM(s). Yes, he even goes with DLP(s) and BWM(s) at the later stage in the season and wasnt even challenged by any through ball???????

Those inmatch change he made made little sense as well. If he is a goal behind, he just sent mentality as attack, play more direct, even set IF duties into attack. He got a goal back or even won the game every freaking time!!! He even said things like "There is no key chances so I cant really analyse the match"

No offense to this guy but I just wonder why? It doesnt even look like the same game as I play. So many people are struggling in the forum. I follow various theory thread and still try to build a tactic in FMT. Mr. footymanager did every thing by intuition and worked like a charm:herman:

Nothing legendary or magical about it. For all the guides by tactical experts we have here, you can find the same amount of crazy tactics which break basically every rule/guide/suggestion and yet work amazingly well. It's always been like that (granted, it's getting more and more difficult).

Many Youtubers and bloggers are extremely successful at the game while not adhering to any of the guides we have on the forums. It just goes to show that nothing is set in stone, I guess.

Also many youtubers and bloggers like to repeat their matches so they get good finish of season and not get embarrassed in front of viewers.

I dont think he S/L a lot though. He had 90k+ subs and he made several videos. It does not make sense for him to S/L for one particular save. Also FM2016 is less random than before in my opinion. If the tactic is very bad, repeat the game for 3 or 4 times wont change much.

He is a lucky guy. He seems to have found the magic touch. I watch his videos too and I never question his logic because he tends to have everything worked out.

Exactly, he was 'lucky' for the entire season, and maybe in other series as well. As I mentioned before so many players simply played by intuition and had to come to this forum to ask for help, while he made several youtube videos and crushed the other teams perfectly.

That guy has literally no clue what he is doing. He's just doing things almost at random without thinking about it. Notice how he never once explains his reasoning for any of the changes to his tactics, or why hes doing what he's doing. Its because he simply doesnt know.

Well at least he did say he was trying new things in FM2016 in the first couple of episodes. He always did things like "I think we need to be more direct", "I think we have to attack (mentality) if we havent got a chance by 60min". Then bang, he scored.

Sure, but really if you compare it to some of the guys who ACTUALLY understand the game, like Rashidi or Cleon, its like comparing Einstein to a caveman who managed to accidentally make fire with a stick.

He seems to be having some success, but I'd attribute that more to playing as Arsenal, using a reasonable base formation and mentality, rather than really knowing what hes doing. But to be fair, thats a totally acceptable way to play the game as well.

His tactic is somewhat flawed, but it isn't completely stupid and I could see how it could be successful. And he's Arsenal so has the advantage of player quality over almost every team in the PL and has players that suit the tactic. And playing in a simple way like going all out attack when a goal down is a perfectly valid method of winning, better than overthinking everything and then getting it wrong.

And it's very unlikely he could play like that and win the league in the first season with an average team, like Cleon with Swansea and his well considered and balanced tactic.

I always laugh when people hold a player up who is managing a top 4 team with lots of resources as some amazing player who has cracked the code. Cleon has done it with Sheff Utd(Div 1)against Man City using logic and a rather huge explanation.
