veerus
Can someone explain to me how the reserve team is supposed to work? It's full of grayed out players who, as far as I can tell, are randomly generated after each match. Playing in VNN, I'm struggling for players with 12+ stats and sometimes a gem of a player gets generated. But to find them, you almost have to spend most of your time looking thru the reserve team which is a "mini game" that I'm sure is not one I'm supposed to spend most of my time on while playing. And when you do find a decent player and promote them, they always have a potential of 1-1.5 and never grow. As far as I can tell, it's the same even in the premier league where a squad full of randoms is listed as the reserve team instead of actual U-21 players which every PL team has. I also looked for a few U-21 players only to learn that they are not even in the player database. So please tell me what's the point of even having the reserve team in the game and why it doesn't even use actual reserve/U-21 players?
SI Staff Alari Naylor Posted February 15, 2016 SI Staff Share Posted February 15, 2016 If you put real players into the reserve team, they will develop as if they have been playing reserve-level football - that is the main reason for its existence. Obviously to include reserve/youth players at every club would massively bloat the database and cause the game to use an excessive amount of memory. veerus
So there's no way to RNG a star out of the greyed out players? In my example of a VNN league, are they all basically capped at ~1.5 stars?
SI Staff Alari Naylor Posted February 17, 2016 SI Staff Share Posted February 17, 2016 You might find a star very occasionally, but it's going to be very very rare. Note that your coaches can be mistaken in their star ratings though!
veerus
You mentioned that the reserve team simulates reserve-level development. How does this development compare to riding the bench in the first team without any playing time?

How does this development compare to riding the bench in the first team without any playing time? Reserve level development will be better than no playing time at all. fish18ish
How does reserve 'virtual' game time compare to a poor, mediocre or good spell on loan at a team appropriate for the player's ability?

It's better than the player going out there and barely playing, but obviously not as good as the player going out there and getting a decent amount of game time.
