I'm thinking of a starting a new save (using create a club) and wondering which league you lot particularly enjoy and why. If you could choose a country in the poll and then explain your decision, that would be perfect! The aim would be to set up a new club in the lowest division and then go for glory using only local youngsters and players from the youth academy. Thanks!

Never managed there. What kind of crazy rules?

The league is done in stages, so if you're the best team in one stage, you at least qualify for the playoffs, essentially meaning you can lose every game in the other three quarters of the season and still get promoted. For example, although I'm not managing there at the moment, I checked the table, and there's a club, Helmond Sport sitting 9th in the overall league table. However the season is in the third 'period' and they're top of that, so if they stay there, they'll qualify for the playoffs even though they're miles off it in the overall table.

I would also say Germany is my favorite country to manage in but can't say i have ever tried the lower leagues there, the reason i like it though is because in the top flight other then bayern i would say the top 4 is very unpredictable and with a a couple of good runs in the league you can fairly easily get champions league football and on top of that less league fixtures and a winter break.

I know its not the hipster choice but really England has everything you need if you are looking to start from the bottom and end on the top in a long term save. The money available once you get to the Prem is just to amazing. The qualification possibilities if you win the cups. The quality in the Europa league is such that you could win it with a very good championship side. So if by some miracle you win the a cup in Skybets league 1, magic can happen. Having said all that Scotland and Germany are quite fun.

Weird that England isn't on the list, and Scotland too. One reason I always they in those 2 is because of the terrific lower league files guys put out in the Editors' Hideaway forum. I'm currently running an English file down to Level 23 and Scottish down to level 15.

The aim would be to set up a new club in the lowest division and then go for glory using only local youngsters and players from the youth academy

This is exactly what I'm doing, so all my new recruits are aged 14 and 15!

I like to play in better/mid range leagues in Europe. I always check the UEFA coefficient for nations to see where the league is compared to other countries. From the list I pick a country based on ranking, lets say from 5. place to 12.place and then pick a team to manage. i dont like to have much money so I can buy expensive players. I like to devalope a club by using domestic players and try to take it to the next level. I want to deserve to manage a good team, I cant just start the game by playing one. :-)

After the next update Im going to start a save with Sochaoux in Ligue 2, France. Its a club with much history but have been struggeling in recent years. France is a fun country to play in with many talented young players, some top clubs, superstars, good challenging league. Reminds me of Bundesliga, just with lower quality. After a few years with Sochoux I can go and manage abroad but I probably wont get a top job in a big leagues and that suits my playstyle. Maybe I get a job in PL, Championship, Bundesliga or LaLiga and start to buid a team there.

I like to buid my my character but in stead of playing in the same country for 7-8 years, starting in the lowest league and bringing the team to top, I prefer to manage in multiple countries and build up my reputatin thtat way. Start in Switzerland, Austria, Chech republic, Croatia, thry to be best there, play in european cups, then move to better leagues and manage there. :-)

So France for me this time, but coud easly be one of the other leagues too.

I had no prior knowledge of the Portuguese league system, but I've enjoyed a good few seasons in the third tier now- it's a really elegant system.

Eight groups of ten in the First Phase.

Top two teams go through to the Promotion Stage, where there are two divisions of 8. The winner of each Promotion Division is promoted (with the two winners having a play-off to determine the champions), the two second place teams play-off for the third promtion spot.

Teams that don't finish in the top two in the First Phase go to the Relegation stage, where there are 8 divisions of 8. Bottom two teams in division are relegated, while the 6th-placed teams in each division go to a playoff against another team that finished 6th, with four of the eight relegated.

It means seasons are kept relatively snappy (playing approx. 32 games, excluding playoffs), while at the same time, the splits and small divisions mean you're either always competing for promotion or avoiding relegation, so there are no real meaningless matches- it's easy to get sucked into a relegation battle, and tough to get promoted. It's good fun.

Montpellier FM14 was probably the best CM / FM save I've ever done. France is a challenge; there's very little TV money and after a few seasons you pretty much have to qualify for at least Europa or you won't be able to pay salaries. OTOH regens are quality, Africa can be mined for talent, and if you're really good you can hang on to most of your starlets. Best of all, no matter how big you get, there will always be PSG to challenge you.
