Training - any consensus on the best team focus? FM16

Recommended Posts

Training has always been a bit of dark art to me. I'm trying to work out the best team focus to maximise the quality of my players and was wondering if there was any consensus on the best area to focus? I alternate between Tactical, because mental attributes seem the most difficult to improve and Ball Control, because it's those skills that are most valuable to a passing team. Has anyone had any success just focussing on those? Is it worth just keeping them on all the time, or throwing in some variety every now and then (or every month?). Grateful for opinions!

Cleon and may others just leave it on balanced as that works all the trainable attributes, and that for the whole season. I split as you do, tactical and ball control, and for "realism" sake I use fitness for the 30 days of pre-season. I think you need a minimum of 30 days to see any changes, but with the team training, I haven't really seen any progress under 90 days, though I won't go so far as to call it a rule. At any rate, I like to use tactics and ball control for the same reasons you do.

I usually have my teams on balanced and use focus on players in areas they lack or specific attributes. But lately I was managing Liverpool and as the board asked to have an attacking philosophy, I tried having the team on attacking all year long and use match training on defensive positioning in derbies against top 4 teams or defensive set pieces. The results were encouraging as I had one of the best attacks in premier league. Not so good defensively though.

You can do a focused training approach, just make sure that its for at least 3 months, before your switch to another focus. So if you want to improve technicals then opt for attacking for 3 months and tactics for another 3. Minimum is 3 months.
