iTz JoshHhH
So for the past few years with FM i've struggled in the scouting aspect of the game. I'm currently 10 seasons into my save and looking to find the next big talents (I dont expect it to be easy) I've got about 10 scouts and I assign the majority assignments to scout the likes of Europe, South America, North America etc. At the moment my scouting 'world knowledge' has been stuck on 18% the last few years and I'm just wondering what is the best possible way to get this up? TL.DR - I suck at scouting and what to improve to find the next big talents. Cheers.
HUNT3R
Depends how you're scouting. The next big talents, sounds like young players. They will be relatively unknown and not easily found in a search as broad as an entire continent. Scouting youth leagues and cup competitions is a much better bet. puffascruffowitz
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "world knowledge" just a total of all your scouts' respective area of knowledge? So if you have 10 scouts and they're all English with only knowledge of England then your world knowledge will be very low. Just hire more scouts from different regions to improve that. Although, no matter how extensive your world knowledge it matters much more about the quality of the scout. And yea, I forget if it was Barside or you Hunter that suggested focusing on the youth leages in whichever country you're scouting. I used to just search by country and age range for youth prospects. Searching a given nation's U-18s has proven much more successful. But also, it's more difficult than it used to be to spot 15-16 year old wonderkids. They start showing up to my scouts more like 17-18 now. Which imo is more realistic.
Ross Ingersoll
i like to hire one scout from each country. Argentina, brazil, germany and france and have them scout under 19 from that country etc ongoing.
Ross Ingersoll
scout the youth intakes. its a pain to get 2k reports and may not pay off right that minute but will down the road. its how i got this great looking midfielder . nobody would sign with me, then later that year i got a news item saying chealea offered for him. i put one in also and got him. would have never known had i not scouted him
Guest
That's one way, probably the cheapest way of doing it & makes the scouting seem like an exercise in convincing yourself that it's okay to trawl newgen lists looking for that year's best talents. Ross Ingersoll
why would the list be in game if it was cheap? its not like you are going in the editor to pilfer through the ratings
thomit
Must say I've grown tired of micromanaging scouting in FM. Nowadays I just leave the decisions on where to scout, for how long and to which scout to the Chief Scout, or my DoF. Seems they do a decent job; can't say I'm lacking in finding and unearthing talents to poach before anyone else does. I have 23 scouts @ Arsenal, and I trust Wenger (DoF) to know where and what to scout. It's probably more necessary to micromanage scouting at smaller clubs with fewer scouts though. I do ask my board for more scouts whenever that option is available, and often they agree. All my scouts are 16+ for JPA and JCA, and most of them have high determination (working harder) as well. And most of them have decent adaptability as well, just in case that counts for anything. And I have at least 1 scout from each of the key European countries, and at least 1 South American, South European, East European, and Scandinavian. JaYmZeE
Best way to find the new talents is to have world coverage - then when u need something - just run a search of known players - stick in your criteria to bring it down and he presto - you still can't find a decent young left-footed centre-half. Seriously though - Scouts + Affiliated teams sharing scouting knowledge - highest coverage I've had is 83% - great - an abundance of decent talent at least - sending scouts away to areas to learn new countries etc - cheap way to turn your UK expert into an expert in the middle-east. Also, if you check your knowledge tab - it'll let you know where you really don't have any coverage - then you can scout that region or try and employ scouts from there or give your board an ultimatum that you need a feeder club in Uzbekistan
