  1. 1. Where do you prefer to manage?

I'm trying to figure out my next destination in my career as a journeyman and I thought, what better way to figure it out than to find out where others prefer to manage!

My career so far looks like this...

  • Manchester United (England) (Premier League)
  • Rangers (Scotland) (Championship + Premier League)
  • Chile (National Team)
  • Manchester City (England) (Premier League)
  • Sevilla (Spain) (LIGA BBVA)
  • Spain U23's (Spain)
  • AFC Wimbledon (England) (Vanarama National + Sky Bet League 2)

I've set a poll running and you can choose more than 1 if you like multiple locations! If posting, please also give your reasons why you like certain locations :)

I enjoyed Germany massively in a previous save, but for me it's not the country, but the team.

I had a great time in Scotland winning both cups and the league with Partick Thistle after working my way up with Stirling, now moved to a recently relegated Newcastle.

Enjoyed that venture in Scotland as much as any other save but not necessarily for the structure

Don't get me wrong, I always consider the pro's and con's before moving to a club, having criteria that these clubs need to meet in most circumstances before i'll manage them. What I'm mainly looking for is the location they like to manage due to league structure as you will find these structures to be very different in various countries.

Have to say, I also enjoyed my stint in Scotland, but I think the only way I'll make my way back there is if the Celtic job becomes available or if Rangers want me for a second stint.

So far i'd have to say England. But this is purely because I have almost always managed only in England. I love to start in the conference north or south and work my up to the top however I have recently started a 'journey man' save and have got a job in Wales with Airbus UK so i'm sure that my preference is due to change.

Anyone but England really. I find the league incredibly tedious to manage in, and have done for a few versions now. I usually like managing somewhere where the league isn't just a "play-each-other-twice-and-there-you-go" slog.

I mostly play England or Holland. England because of the amount of available leagues and clubs, and Holland because there are no foreigner rules. It does clutter squads with half-decent players players from all over the globe though.

Had good times in Scotland and Italy too.

Always play 2-3 Scotland saves a year, often starting as low as I can get. First epic save was an expanded database where I took Bonnyrigg Rose (a Junior Superleague team) up to the Scottish Premier. Even got me a replica jersey to wear.

I also like England, just because i find that in most nations the number of good teams to go up against is limited if you are in top league. for example i have a palermo save. Outside of Juve i have no problems with any of the other teams. I suppose i could play more lower level leagues and that would fix that

I start with a dutch team. Then gradually build up a near invincible squad. My biggest struggle is not the league but keeping my players from being poached for peanuts. I bought a 17 y/o regenfrom Soa Paolo for 2.3 million. He's 25 now and still playing for me. Every season I must fight off RM and Barca and PSG and a the whole top flight of EPL. Their max offer? 22 million. His PA is 188 and his CA is 179 now. 22 million my arse. Come with a minimum of 50 and then you may approach me. On the other had, the player is never unhappy. never asked for a transfer. Only minor injuries. Booked only twice in his entire career. His Bio also stats "loves playing this tactic" (ok paraphrased it but you get the idea)

Brazil = My home. The National League is a crazy to win, i like to play my favorite team, Flamengo (or unfortunately "Flemish" for lately, because of Licenses issues).

Spain = I like to play with Barça to test and know each new version. I like the team too.

Holland: No foreigners limit, I love the country and I support Feyenoord.

Thanks for all the votes and posts guys. I'm leaning towards Holland as that has the most votes so far (except England). Obviously I'm with my 3rd English team in 8 seasons, so I want to venture away from home comforts :D

The 12 subs in Italy sounds pretty cool, so that's also another option, I didn't list Belgium because I don't have the leagues loaded. Brazil sounds fun also, I like crazy :D

I actually quite like lower teams in Scotland or Wales. But also Iceland. Last few years I've managed IA Akranes. I like the challenge of not knowing the country, the teams, the players, the language, the weather etc

Poll should be "region" rather than country surely?

The poll is just consisted of the countries I can go to in my save. Regions wouldn't really be helpful at all, because you can't really give specific reasons for managing in that region, where as you can in a specific country.

England for the better part. I had a short stint of preference for Italy (all levels) in 2005-2008 but generally since playing CM 99/00 for the first time , England was my choice. Also had some small experience in Holland during a period in which i played something like a journeyman manager. I tried also France,Germany and Spain at times but it didn't grow on me.

As a habit i always start my first save with Millwall (i think for 6 years in a row) and before the other game appears i usually do a LLM save in the summer as it takes a lot of time to get to a higher level.

Holland does have a rule that relates to wages, non-EU players have a high minimum wage to discourage teams from bringing in cheap imports, can't recall the the value but it will put the players into the first team regular category for most clubs & hoarding young foreign prospects should be next to impossible.

England simply because it's most familiar. Last year, I spent my whole year long save at Manchester United. This year, I've gone from starting with Bury, to Lille, to Reading. Do quite enjoy France tbh. I'd probably put that down as my second choice. If you can manage to nick points of PSG & Monaco, you just never know...

With the limited number of option you gave us, I chose England, simply because I think the British leagues in general are the most well-researched and thoroughly realistic experiences FM has to offer - for obvious reasons.

Having said that, Scotland is at the very bottom of my list, if only because of the stupid league structure. You play the same teams over and over again way too many times and there is very little movement up and down the pyramid over time...

Portugal.

I had a great FM14 save with CS Maritimo, where I eventually broke up the Big 3, before getting the sack.

I would like to have a go at managing in Iceland, but only because I have recently visited this beautiful island.

Reason I chose England is that that is the league i am most familiar with and it is generally a better league set up than most IMO. Financial restrictions make it more challenging and if you manage to reach the Premier League then the chance to grow the club quickly makes it more appealing! Although I do like managing in other nations too I usually choose a club from England! Good poll!!! :applause:

I tend to start in England, as a low level team (L2 or lower), as it offers both familiarity and considerable room to grow your club and/or career thanks to the pyramid. I do often later move to top level teams in other nations though

I always used to manage in England on older versions but I've lost interest in that now. I do an Athletic Club save every year, but to be honest, La Liga isn't the best league to manage in, and all the Copa Del Rey games in January are a pain in the ass. If it wasn't for Athletic I wouldn't do it! Right now I'm managing in the Bundesliga and really enjoy that league, as it's a high reputation league, with excellent youth development and it's pretty even from top to bottom compared to some others. The other advantage of Germany is that it's only 34 fixtures and it has a winter break which I find works for me
