Inter 4-1-2-3 tactic - any tips what to improve or what to fix?

Recommended Posts

What is it doing well or not well?

Well I don't want to test it out yet before I know I am not leaving empty space or I have too much players on 1 position. If team instructions is contradicting player roles etc. But I played away to Lazio, lost 2:1, not much key highlights, had 396 completed passes out of which 49 were intercepted, had 48% poss.

Agree with the above - try it out.

But one thing that concerns me is your central midfield. With a roamer and a box-to-boxer, I'd worry that you're leaving a huge hole in that area. Try it anyway, but look to see if that's the case.

Best place to start with any tactic mate isn't here on an SI forum but by playing games. How I normally like to do it...and here comes the grandad bit...I like to give a tactic a five game sample size.

I play each game how I would normally but I always watch them back after with a pen and a piece of paper no pressure to change the result (old school right lol). I note down everything I am seeing, all that worked all that didn't work, what space was left etc then from these notes comes the fun part :) I tweak, Tweaking constantly as we go to see if it solves an issue I had or if it makes it worse etc...only stop tweaking when you finally have what you were after.

The main aim and the most important thing to remember with creating a tactic is to have fun

Well, I played 2 league games, 2 at home vs Udinese and Fiorentina and 1 away to Bologna. Results were 1-0 win, 2-1 lose, 1-1 draw. What I struggle with are shots on target. In all matches ass man was telling me how we are not getting enough shots on target, I did not ticked work ball in the box tho. And 2nd, how do I adjust tactic for away matches?

Thing is, everything looks fine, I have poss, I am not leaving empty spaces after switching my defensive mid to DM role. Only thing I struggle with are away matches and getting more shots on target. In away I tried to switch mentality to counter, tempo was increased to high, width to narrow, unticked retain poss and more direct passes.

I think you need a goal scorer. The trequartista does a bit of that, but he is more or less a creator. I see a lot of support duties, but no one is being told to attack the opposition and look to score a goal.

I will try to move DM to CAM with attacking midfielder role and then either leave striker as terquarista or switch it to advanced forward

I might also try a DLF(a) in the middle or an IF(a) or RMD(a) on the wing, but a CM(a) is always something I like to watch in my matches. They can score beautiful goals in bunches if the supporting forward is a good playmaker.

Play out of defence to a ball winning midfielder? This also leaves short passing fullbacks passing into the centre as you are not giving them the range to hit the AML/R strata.

If I play out of defence it is to a deep lying playmaker or regista so they can spray it.

Who are you expecting to finish your moves?

Why play slow on a more attacking mentality?

Alright, so I changed striker to complete forward(s) just because Icardi is injured, changed inside forward on RW to attack, changed from winger to raumdeuter on left wing, and DM is now regista and roaming playmaker is CM(a). But I kept lower tempo because

I want to keep possession.

So far so good. I made some good results, played Milan away, then they scored for 1-0, switched to this formation in the end I won 2-1. Against Napoli at home I played more control but after I scored, changed mentality to counter, FT 3-1 win. Next game is Juventus away.

Any updates, did you start doing better?

I assume you checked my thread. <.<

Icardi is like one of the best classic no9 in the game and you're wasting his potential with playing him on trequartista role.

Even if you put Jovetić there having a lone striker on treq duty rarely works out, unless you have a C. Ronaldo type of player on the wing who's basically the main goalscorer.

You also have all 3 midfielders on roaming duties basically. Put DM on DM duty, so he stays in front of defense and then your fullbacks can be more attacking.

RPM and BBM will also roam too much if you ask me. Pair that with treq and IF, and you basically get some total football crap which doesn't work out really well in this game unless your squad is extremely strong.

I also don't think possession football produces good enough result in this version, but that's just me.
